What I Say:
Being
increasingly interested in more natural skincare products, I was very happy
when I learned that a ‘main-stream’ company, Neutrogena has put some funds into
the research and development of inventing a natural line with eco-friendly
packaging.
If you’ve missed
my reviews, I have recently reviewed the Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover and the Lip Balm from the Neutrogena Neutrals range.
The Purifying Pore Scrub has been formulated to be made from 94% naturally derived
ingredients, while Neutrogena claims that the remainders of the ingredients are
essential to blend the product together and maintain effectiveness. That also means that the scrub does not
contain harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens, petrochemicals, dyes or
phthalates. It is also hypoallergenic as well as it has not been tested on
animals.
The Purifying
Pore Scrub comes in a clear frosted plastic tube with a flip lid, and with lime green highlights which makes it
stand out as a ‘naturals’ range. The plastic tube is made from 50% post-consumer
recycled material. So far I am impressed!
And I like the
fact that the Purifying Pore Scrub has been designed to stand on its
lid, so that the product drops down as you use it, making it easier to use the
complete contents in the tube.
The
exfoliation agent comes in the form of natural jojoba beads and white Willow
bark. The Willow Bark is used in the personal care and cosmetics products for
its astringent, conditioning and soothing properties, as well as it is a
natural source of salicylic acid, known for removing old and dead skin cells,
as well as it also contains Vitamins C, B, and E.
In addition
the Purifying Pore Scrub also contains Vegetable glycerin, jojoba oil and castor oil provide good sources of moisture, and which all also anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory
properties and hence are suitable to use with persons suffering from acne as
well, as it also won’t clog pores.
The Purifying
Pore Scrub has a grainy
texture from the natural jojoba beads, and when you scrub it onto your face, it
feels soft and gentle, and you can feel the little grains literally wiping your
pores and skin clean from dirt, impurities, oil and makeup. And as soon as I
rinse off the scrub, I am left with soft, smooth and glowing skin. And unlike
other scrubs containing salicylic acid, it does not dry out my skin, but rather it leaves it feeling
moisturised and subtle.
This scrub
has an absolute delightful natural fruity scent, which I really like. It is not
too overpowering and does it linger too long.
Unfortunately,
while I really like the scent of the Purifying Pore Scrub, it is at the same time also the only negative I
have to say about this product, as this fragrance has been highlighted
by a “*” on the back of the tube, indicating that it is not a naturally derived
fragrance. So while it is fantastic that Neutrogena has introduced a product
made from 94% naturally derived ingredients, it would have been even better if
they had taken it one step further and made it fragrance free as well, and for
that I will deduct a few points.
According to
Neutrogena, the Purifying Pore Scrub is gentle enough to use every day. And after now having used the Purifying Pore
Scrub for a few weeks, approx. every second day, I am happy to say that my combination
skin, which is otherwise prone to breakouts, looks and feels much smoother than it has been for some time as
well as I am convinced that I have less breakouts. My skin is clearer and less
congested – no doubt from the salicylic acid doing its magic deep down my
pores. My skin simply looks radiant and glowing.
The actual
scrub is very concentrated so you don't need very much either, a small squeeze
is sufficient to spread onto my face and neck, so the tube will last you quite
a while, and I therefore find that $14.99 is an absolute bargain price for a
product that does not contain tons of nasty chemicals.
I am
thoroughly enjoying using this scrub, and I will most definitely continue to
use it, as well as I will be looking into other products available in the
Neutrogena Naturals range.

Thanks so much for your kind words!!
DeleteAnd thanks for visiting my blog, I'll make sure to check out yours too!
This sounds really great! I was looking into it months ago but decided to go with their cleanser instead. It's okay and does well with getting my makeup off but I don't see it helping my skin any. I may have to try this out! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the Purifying Pore Scrub is great to use a few times per week, in addition to the cleanser.
DeleteI recently received the new naturals range to review and must say I am so impressed to see many accessible mainstream brands going down the pure and natural path. Neutrogena Naturals sell beautiful and the ingredients are much nicer than what would have been in the formulas in the past. Great review!

I agree, it really is fantastic that a mainstream brand is using more natural ingredient. Hopefully more brands will follow this path too!
