I’ve put the following products from ESK Evidence Skincare to the test;
Calming Cleanse* (AM + PM)
Hydroxy Cleanser* (AM + PM)
Enlighten* (AM)
Zinc Shade* (AM)
Smooth Serum* (PM)
Ultimate A+* (PM)
Beta Intense Night Mask* (PM)
The Calming Cleanse is gentle soap free cleanser, designed for those with drier or more sensitive skin to be used both morning and evening. It is coconut based and also contains Aloe Vera, Lavender, Rose, Soy extract and Orchid to soothe the skin and leave it clean, soft and smoothed and soothed as well. It can be used as a makeup remover, but I found it struggled a little with my long wearing makeup, so found it worked better as my second cleanse, or alternatively in the morning. It has a gorgeous calming lavender scent.
The Hydroxy Cleanser is for more oilier skin types, and those prone to breakouts, so needless to say that with my combination troublesome skin, this is more up my alley. It can be used both morning and evening and contains AHA’s and BHA’s (including salicylic acid, is great for treating acne and breakouts), and it helps gently cleanse and exfoliate the skin It leaves the skin feeling softer and smoother, and with a nice fresh glow too. For an even deeper clean, you can also leave it on the skin for 5-10 minutes before rinsing off, and I quite like doing this while I brush my teeth and generally get ready for bed at night. It’s a super fast intensive treatment. That is my favourite of the two cleansers.
The Enlighten is a serum that can be used both morning and evening after cleansing to help lighten, brighten and even out the skin tone, by improving the appearance of hyperpigmentation and age spots. It contains a tyrosinase inhibitor (4-n-butylresorcinol) along with Niacinamide. It has a light creamy consistency and absorbs quickly and without any greasiness, which I like, so it works well under makeup too.
The Zinc Shade is a zinc based daily moisturiser offering UVA and UVB protection to help prevent signs of premature ageing and potentially skin cancer. I does have a slightly thick consistency and takes a few moments to absorb, but it doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy, and unlike many other SPF moisturisers, it doesn’t appear to clog up my pores or make my skin breakout. As it is non greasy, it also works well under makeup. I also like that, in spite of being zinc based, it doesn’t leave that dreaded white cast on the skin. It has been rated as SPF15 broad spectrum, and while that is great, I would have liked it to be higher to fight the harsh Australian sun.
The Smooth Serum is an Alpha Hydroxy Acid exfoliating serum for use at night, helping to exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and balance and regulate oily skin, also promoting cell turn over for a softer, and more even skin. It has a super light and runny watery consistency, and absorbs instantly, and without any greasiness or stickiness, which I really like. Only issue is that as it is so runny, you do have to be careful not to waste it or over-use. It does tingle ever so slightly when you first apply it, and especially when applied to breakouts, but it doesn’t bother me, and it quickly fades, and to me, it is just sign that it is actually working. I love how it leaves my skin looking fresher and smoother, and generally less greasy and clearer each morning.
The Ultimate A+ is a night cream with retinal to help fight the signs of ageing, including hyper pigmentation, lines, wrinkles and skin elasticity, while also promoting collagen growth. Vitamin A is one of those ingredients that I have found to be most efficient at both fighting the signs of ageing and reducing pigmentation on my ageing skin, while also helping manage and keep my acne at bay - so I also really love that this one contains retinal, as it is more effective and faster working that retinol, as it is only one step conversion from retinoic acid, which is essential for it to be used by skin cells (whereas retinol is a two step conversion away!)
In addition, it also contains niacinamide and sweet almond oil to help prevent the dryness often associated with vitamin A products, along with glycolic acid to help exfoliate away dead skin cells for a brighter and fresher skin, and keeping my pores clearer, also helps greatly with my breakouts. This cream is quite light, which I really like on my combination skin, as again it doesn’t leave it feeling greasy or clogged up. I am really enjoying this cream, and love how it leaves my skin feeling and looking softer, smoother and generally healthier and fresher.
The Beta Intense Night Mask, or also called Beta Hydrate, is a rich moisturiser designed for dry skin. It contains Salicylic acid to exfoliate the dry skin, Urea to moisturise along with Aloe Vera to moisturise and soothe. It can be used a few times a day on dry skin, but can also be used for acne, once or twice a week at night. It has a slightly thicker and greasier consistency thanks to being richer, and thus takes a few moments longer to absorb into the skin. I find that less is more, as if you do use too much, it is too hard to absorb, and also leave the skin a bit sticky, but otherwise, when used in moderation, it leaves in feeling silky soft and smooth thanks no doubt to the Salicylic acid buffing away dead skin cells and helping keep my pores clearer and prevent breakouts.
Overall I have really enjoyed this selection of products from ESK Evidence Skincare, which were specifically selected for my skin based on my skin type and concerns. The products are beautiful to use, and the results are obvious, as I can clearly both see and feel that my skin is looking better after using them for a few weeks. I feel that my pigmentation has reduced in appearance as has recent red and dark marks from recent acne, so I feel that my skin is overall looking more even and brighter. I also feel that it is looking more even in texture and feels and looks smooth and soft as well as I feel it has a nice healthy glow.
I am yet to see any major difference in my lines and wrinkles, but I have not experienced any major breakouts in the period of using, which needless to say I love too.
All product are fantastic, but if I had to select a few favourites, it would no doubt be the Hydroxy Cleanser, Smooth Serum and Ultimate A+, which (while it is difficult to pinpoint individual products when you use a larger selection in combination), I found these to be having the greatest effect on my skin!
