Product Review: Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream

Normally just a light cream is more than sufficient for combination my skin, and anything more is often too way too heavy for my skin. However, as we now well into autumn and sadly we have the heater is on every day in our house, my skin starts to get a little drier, and I need to call on a heavier cream. Here are my thoughts on the *Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream;

What They Say:
"Aveeno Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream is a skincare solution that seeks to combat dull and tired skin overnight. The cream features total soy complex and vitamin B3, helping to promote radiant skin by boosting the five factors of radiance – tone, dullness, brown spots, texture and blotchiness. It is clinically proven to provide significant improvement in tone and overall skin appearance in just two weeks."

RRP: 19.99 (48g) – Available from Priceline and select pharmacies

What I Say:

I have previously tried some of the products from the Aveeno Active Naturals range, and I am in particularly loving Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser, and I'm also liking the Positively Radiant Cleanser, and moisturiser, so I was also very excited to be trying the Aveeno Active Naturals Positively Radiant Intensive Night Cream.

The Aveeno Positively Radiant Night Cream comes in a very simple cream coloured plastic jar with a pale green screw lid – simple and effective, and not to mention making it easy use up every last bit of cream, although, as usual, due to hygiene reasons, I do prefer creams that come in pump bottles or tubes.

The actual moisturiser comes in a simple cream coloured bottle with a pale green pump. I really like that it comes with a pump, as it makes it easy to dispense just the amount of moisturiser you need, but it is also more hygienic than having to dip your fingers into a jar. I guess the only disadvantage can be that it can be difficult to completely empty the cream, and not to mention, it is impossible to how much cream is left in the bottle.

It contains Total Soy Complex boosted with tone-evening vitamin B3 to help the skin looking fresh and luminous, and claims to give the skin an extra boost on all ‘5 Factors of Radiance’ – tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness and brown spots.

The Moisturiser has the exact same scent as the tinted moisturiser and the day cream; a lovely, yet subtle floral scent, which I really like. Once the cream has been absorbed into the skin, this scent quickly fades, although a slight scent still lingers for a little while.

The actual cream has a light consistency for a night cream, and it absorbs surprising quickly into the skin, leaving it feeling thoroughly moisturised without feeling greasy.

In spite of being so light, the cream is very concentrated, so at least on my combination skin, I only need to use a tiniest amount for my face and neck.

The Night Cream claims to brighten and even skin tone, but I must admit that I have not noticed any permanent difference to my skin tone or texture, or any reduction of brown spots and dullness of my skin in the several weeks that I’ve been using the cream. In saying that, my skin does feel thoroughly moisturised, and is consequently looking healthy. And it has not made my skin feel congested or made my skin breakout, which is amazing, as night cream are often too heavy for my combination skin making it break out within days.

And being 35 weeks pregnant, - a time when I like most other pregnant women are starting to noticing an increase in pigmentation due to the high level of hormones floating around my body - the cream is also fighting an up-hill battle in trying to reduce pigmentation from my face.

At $19.99, I find that it is quite good value for a night cream. It is suitable for all skin types, but I am not sure that seeing it worked well with my combination skin, that it would give sufficient moisture to dry skin types.

  1. I tested this one out a while ago and loved it! (I also reviewed this on my blog!) I did notice more of a permanent difference, but as you said, being pregnant it's probably a bit harder for it to make a bigger difference! :P
    Glad it didn't break you out though! When I first took a sniff and felt it, I feared it might have broke me out, but it didn't!

    1. Thank you! It is a nice moisturiser, and at a good price too. I do love pump bottles, but guess as it is a little thicker in consistency it may be difficult with this one!
