Product Review: Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover

Having always struggled with a skin that easily breaks out, the use of a good cleanser can make all the difference in keeping breakout at bay. Here are my thoughts on the *Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover;

What They Say:
"Completely cleans skin and removes makeup in one step without stripping skin’s natural moisture. This Peruvian Tara seed bionutrient rich cleanser is clinically proven to soften skin naturally. Developed for gentle eye area".

RRP: $14.99 (177ml) – Available from Priceline, Pharmacies, Department Stores, and Supermarkets.

What I Say:
I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I learned that a 'main-stream' drugstore company, such as Neutrogena were launching their Naturals skincare range – that is right, the new Neutrogena Naturals Range has been developed with an average of 95% natural ingredients – and in fact, the lip balm has been made using 100% natural ingredient, and without using sulfates, parabens, dyes, and phthalates. How good is that!!

I have previously reviewed the Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm from the same range, if you've missed my review, you can see it here.

The Neutrogena Naturals Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover is made from 84% naturally derived ingredients, which includes coconut oil, Peruvian Tara Seed , guan bean, as well as Vitamins A and B, and complex sugars. These ingredients are to remove makeup in one step, while leaving the skin soft, and not strip it for moisture. It is a gentle formula, also intended to be used around the sensitive eye area.

The Fresh Cleansing + Makeup Remover comes in a square frosted plastic bottle, with an easy to use pump. In line with the natural philosophy of the range, the bottle is also made from 50% post consumer recycled materials.

On the back of the bottle all ingredients are clearly listed, along with their source. The non-natural ingredients (making the remaining 16% of the ingredients) are also listed, with a note that these are ‘essential to blend the product together and maintain effectiveness.” Unfortunately fragrance is also on this list, and as that surely is not an 'essential' ingredient, I do find it a shame that it is not also fragrance free!

The actual cleanser is white pearlescent and has creamy consistency. It has a lovely fresh fruity-apple scent, which I really love, also in spite of it actually being quite strong.

The cleanser is quite concentrated and just one pump is more than sufficient to get to froth up sufficiently to massage over my face to remove my makeup – including long-wearing makeup which is usually a bit tough to remove. But in saying that, it does struggle removing my waterproof mascara, and leaves me looking panda-eyed.

I have very sensitive eyes that easily get irritated and water, and in spite of the cleanser also being recommended for use around the eye area, I must admit that I do not enjoy using it around my eye area – and as it doesn’t remove my waterproof mascara anyway, I also much prefer to use a specific eye makeup remover.

The cleanser rinses off easily, leaving my skin feel soft and without being stripped for moisture.

Apart from the cleanser not removing waterproof mascara, and being a bit harsh around the eye area, it is a great all-in-one cleanser at a great price.

  1. This sounds really good, especially that there are so much natural ingredients! Maybe I should buy it. Thanks for your test and again detailed review.

    I use since a very long time a cleanser from Klapp and until today no product was successful enough the replace it ;)

    Hope you´re still fine!

    1. Thanks so much Rena! I have never tried any of the products from Klapp, I have been looking into them, but I will certainly reconsider now that you are saying they are not so good that you will repurchase!!
