PRODUCT REVIEW: THE BASE COLLECTIVE WITH MAGNESIUM FOR SKIN, HEALTH AND AYURVEDIC BENEFITS

Today I am talking about a really cool range of products from a brand called The Base Collective. These products are made 100% naturally derived ingredients, with one of the key ingredients in all products being Magnesium.

According to The Base Collective, Magnesium has been linked to over 300 chemical reactions in our body, ranging from muscle and nerve functions, to blood glucose control, to the regulation of blood pressure. And recent studies have shown that as many as 1 in 4 Australians are not meeting the daily dietary intake requirements to maintain adequate Magnesium levels, and as many as 60-80% of the population are actually deficient. Being low or deficient in magnesium can result in;

  • Muscle fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Muscle cramps
  • Sugar cravings
  • Stress management
  • Sleeplessness
  • Cramps associated with pregnancy
  • Post workout recovery
  • Pain associated with some surgical procedures

Some of these conditions I cannot comment on, but I can certainly nod to a few of these symptoms such as sleeplessness, being stressed, craving sugary treats constantly, as well as I also had major muscle cramps during both my pregnancies, though the last I am well past now, so very excited to put these products to the test, also because it is said that magnesium is better absorbed through the skin than when taken orally!

There are several different products in the range, I put these to the test;
  • The Base Collective Magnesium + White Tea Hand & Body Wash
  • The Base Collective Magnesium Bath Salts
  • The Base Collective Magnesium Oil
  • The Base Collective Magnesium + White Tea Body Balm

T
he Base Collective Magnesium + White Tea Hand & Body Wash is a super gentle wash that helps cleanse and nourish the skin without irritating or drying it out as it is also pH balanced It is in fact so gentle that it can be used by even little kids, and it leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth, and unlike other body washes not dried out or itchy. It has a slightly odd scent, but it is quite subtle, so certainly nothing that has been bothering me. I love the simple black and white pump bottle, an the fact that it is made without sulfates, parabens, mineral oils, animal derivatives, artificial colours or synthetic fragrances. Use of the body wash can help with eliminating dry and irritated skin, muscle fatigue and recovery and sleep.

Then there’s The Base Collective Bath Salt, which is made from nothing but organically derived Dead Sea Magnesium Chloride Flakes. It is perfect for soaking muscle fatigue and aches, after work or workouts, along with muscle cramps, magnesium deficiencies and sleep issues.

To use you simply dissolve 1/2-1 sachet of the bath salts into a warm bath (or foot bath) and soak for at least 20 minutes to maximise the transdermal absorption of the magnesium. Nothing beats a relaxing warm bath, but adding these Magnesium Bath Salts, is seriously so relaxing to a tired body, and I have slept like a baby too after having a bath with these at night. Having to use 1/2 to a full sachet each time, does come at a cost, but if you have issues with aching or cramping, then its worth keeping at hand.

The Base Collective Magnesium Oil is probably one of the most interesting products in the range, made from from just magnesium chloride and water. This oil spray is designed to help you increase your magnesium levels via transdermal application. This oil spray is very concentrated, delivering over 6mg of pure magnesium with each spray. You can use this in several different ways, and for lots of different things;

  • Spray onto stomach morning and night as a general supplement
  • Spray onto affected area, i.e. onto nape of the neck for a headache or migraines, or directly onto the aching muscles

It can also be used to help a large range of other things such as period pain, energy levels, regulate sugar levels and cravings, neck and shoulder tensions, sleeplessness, stress and anxiety, growing pains… a very long list indeed.

I have tried using it for a few different things including for period pain, bad headaches, neck tensions, muscle fatigue and tiredness, and certainly also to help stop my mid-afternoon sugar cravings and help with lack of energy, and generally I have to say that I was not convinced, but have to admit that I am impressed. It definitely helped with especially musical tiredness and cramps, and also period pain and cramps. It didn’t sadly completely help me with my headaches and neck and shoulder aches, but I also have a few collapsed discs in my neck and aching shoulder after a shoulder surgery years ago, so for it to be able to completely treat these issues would have been more than you can really ask.

Then there’s The Base Collective Magnesium + White Tea Body Balm. This gentle body cream keeps the skin soft and nourished thanks to organic shea butter and coco butter along wit aloe vera, sunflower oil. Again, it does have a slightly odd scent, but thankfully it does fade quickly. The rich cream does take a few moments to absorb fully into the skin, but once it has, the skin is left feeling really soft and supple. And while I cannot immediately feel it, I also love that simply using this cream once a day after your shower cream helps give your skin a dose of magnesium to help not only alleviate dry and irritated skin, but also prevent the muscle fatigue and cramps, just too easy!

Finally, The Base Collective also has a super cool Copper Water Bottle, which is not only incredibly stylish to look at, and would look amazing on any desk (just imagine all the admiring looks from your colleagues!), but it is also loaded with super powers, literally. According to Ayurveda, water stored in a copper vessel has the ability to balance all the three doshas in your body, (vata, kapha and pitta) by positively charging the water. There are also numerous additional health benefits that have been attributed to drinking water stored in copper bottles, with some of them said to be things like slow down ageing, detoxing the body, preventing anaemia, help heal wounds faster and simply improving skin health. Sounds pretty good to me, and the pretty bottle may just be what I need to encourage me to drink a little more water.

So there you go, a selection of cool products from The Base Collective. I really love how unique they are and that they, apart from being skincare products, they also have added benefits to body and mind, how clever is that.

Again, my favourite would have to be the Magnesium Oil for its uniqueness and endless uses, and the pretty Copper Bottle as I love how it can ‘charge’ the water and give it so many more health benefits. How cool is that. So if you have experienced anyone the above issues, then I highly recommend that you look into these products from The Base Collective. They are also very affordable, so you've really got nothing to lose by giving then a go.
