I can’t say that I enjoy that it is now autumn and we are heading towards winter, but what I do like, is that chance of season, means that the makeup brands often launch new exciting colour collections, and some of these new collections for the autumn and winter 2018 include the Mavala New Look Colours Nail Polish Collection and the Mavala Boutique Lipstick Collection, which are available from May 2018.
Mavala is a Swiss brand that has been around for over 50 years, which says a lot about a brand, and how great a quality their products are, as people keep coming back for them.
What I really love about the Mavala Nail Polishes is that hey are free from all the chemical nasties including formaldehyde, toluene, camphor, phthalate, parabens, rosin, nickel as we as they do no contain any animal ingredients.
I also really love the small bottles containing 5ml, as I don’t actually recall ever emptying a nail polish, so these small sizes are perfect, and does allow you to select more, as they come at a lower price too.
The Mavala New Look Colours Nail Polish Collection is all about the “new experiences, redefining the meaning of or lives, our values, pushing history forward and jostling our routines. The collection is also about playing with colours, and let them feed of each other for a new trend and look, and thus the new shades are the perfect autumn shades to help “give you a vibrant distinction of trendy modernity”.
The collection contains 6 shades including:
- 25 Copenhagen - a sheltered forest green
- 26 Seoul - a glimmering noble golden tone
- 27 Munich - a deep, fruity and warm wine red
- 28 Austin - a futuristic, shiny, silver metal
- 50 Toronto - a bright cranberry red
- 51 Melbourne - a subtly shimmering grey beige
L-R: Copenhagen, Seoul, Munich, Austin, Toronto, Melbourne |
The polishes are easy to apply evenly and streak-free thanks to the wide brush, and the small bottle also means a shorter brush, which I personally feel makes it easier to control too.
Then there's the Mavala Boutique Lipstick Collection. With the season trends predicting complexion and eye makeup to be minimalist, these lip sticks help add a contrasting strong contrast, with eh shade including a range or reds, from discreet to almost Gothic.
The collection consists of six shades;
L-R: Dark Velvet, Stylish Pink, Red Carpet, Purple Chic, Trendy Orange, Golden Rose |

The collection consists of six shades;
- 637 Dark Velvet - the intense wine-red, almost Gothic
- 638 Stylish Pink - the discreet coral red, like bitten lips
- 639 Red Carpet - the seductive red red
- 640 Purple Chic - the elegant, reinvented strawberry red
- 641 Trendy Orange - the daring orange red
- 642 Golden Rose - the melting, golden pink red
All these shades are, needless to say, absolutely stunning, and as they are all shades of red, my favourites, it is hard to pick just one favourite. Personally I don’t often wear pale lipsticks, and hence, the palest shade, Golden Rose, would also be my least favourite. I tend to prefer a good bolder shade, so my favourites would have to be Red Carpet, a classic red shade, Purple Chic, a dark rich red, and Trendy Orange, and orangy-red shade.
I am not usually fan of too pink lipsticks, but Stylish Pink, is actually a red shade with a touch of a pink undertone, a bit like watermelon, making it gorgeous too. Finally, there’s the Dark Velvet, which is the darkest shade, with it dark deep berry tone - it is a little dark and intense for everyday casual wear, but it is a great shade fora night out, and certainly one I can’t wait to use.
As for the actual lipsticks, they are nothing short of amazing and feel so incredible on the lips, thanks to doubling as lipsticks containing Prolip, which is a mix of among others candelilla wax to add shine, gliding and a protective film on the lips, shea butter for its repairing, softening, nourishing and soothing properties, aloe vera to protect and regenerate the lips, vitamin E to ad antioxidants and moisture, and UVB filers, and thus the lipsticks help protect the lips again external agressors including wind, sun and pollution.
The lipsticks are so buttery soft and smooth, and are so easy to apply, and a single swipe is enough for a full colour payoff as they are so pigmented. They have a gorgeous satin sheen, and are very long wearing. Needless to say that they are also incredibly comfortable to wear, almost as if you're wearing a lip balm, so I really am impressed with these, and know I’ll continue to reach for them again and again.
Mavala Lipstic with Prolip - RRP: $27.95 / 4g
Mavala Mini Nail Colour - RRP: $8.50 / 5ml
