Product Review: Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

Normally I always use a foundation with a medium coverage, due to acne scarring, and increasing pigmentation etc – however, I have been on the lookout for a tinted moisturiser to use during weekends, when just going to the supermarket etc, where I have not really want to wear a full face of makeup, yet not want to go out bare faced either. Here are my thoughts on the *Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser;

What They Say:
"With clinically proven Active Naturals Total Soy complex to brighten and even skin tone while providing SPF15 sun protection, Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturiser contains natural light-reflecting minerals and lightweight coverage that seamlessly blends away imperfections and immediately enhance skin’s natural radiance. Available in Fair to Light and Medium".

RRP: $22.99 (75ml) – Available from Priceline, and select pharmacies

What I Say:
The Aveeno Positively Radiant Tined Moisturiser comes in a large 75ml pump bottle, which I really like, as it is very convenient and also very hygienic. How easy it will be to empty the bottle I am yet to find out!
The cream has a very pleasant fragrance which I really do like. The cream is very shimmery – and I have to say that I at first was a little worried that I would look like a 1980s disco queen – but on application it left a radiant look. I used two full pumps to cover my face, and the cream settled in quickly.
The moisturiser only comes in two shades, Medium and Fair to Light. I tried the one in Fair to Light and it suits the medium suits my skin tone very well, although in with just a slight tan, I could imagine that the Medium shade would also be ok, which would mean that those with darker skintones may not be able to match their skin tones.

My first impression was that it did not give sufficient coverage…but then I again need to stop and remember that this is a sheer tinted moisturiser, and if I wanted a fuller coverage, then to use one of my foundation!

But for the first couple of times wearing it, I did feel that it did not offer sufficient coverage, so I topped it up with a powder on top, which increased the coverage a little, as well as reduced the shimmery look, which I actually did prefer. I have combination skin, and on a hot and humid day it often shines and looks greasy, so I sometimes find a shimmery look makes it look worse. But even with added powder on top, it leaves the skin looking soft and glowing, and with a nice subtle sheen.

Difficult to see in the image, but the Tinted Moisturiser
adds a nice sheen and glow to the skin

On its own, the tinted moisturiser does even out the skin tone, and cover smaller imperfections, but you can still see ‘problems’ including skin discolourations and blemishes underneath the cream.

I tried to see if it was possible to build up the coverage, but found it difficult and that the cream then didn’t absorb into the skin properly, but rather it would sit on top of the skin in lumps and just be rubbed off.

Generally I found that the tinted moisturiser stayed put for a few hours before starting to slide and shine (but that’s pretty normal for any foundation or tinted moisturiser on my combination skin!!), but with added powder on top, I found that I could be extend it with another few hours.

The tinted moisturiser comes in a pump bottle which I really do like, as it not only very easy to use, but also very hygienic. Compared to other tinted moisturisers on the market which are usually no larger than 50ml, the 75ml is very large, and at $22.99 I find it very good value. And I love the fact that it has SPF15.

The Tinted Moisturiser has a lovely, yet subtle floral scent, which I really like. Once the cream has been absorbed into the skin, this scent quickly fades.

The Tinted Moisturiser contains Total Soy Complex which claims to brighten and even skin tone, but I must admit that I have not noticed any permanent difference to my skin tone or texture, or any reduction of brown spots and dullness of my skin.
While I will continue to use my normal foundation for work and going out, I have actually grown to enjoy using this tinted moisturiser, will continue to wear this tinted moisturiser on casual days where I feel I do no need to be as 'made up'.
