Yes, I know it, I’ve said it many times before, but one of my fave brands is Medik8, for the pure reason that they products simply work on my ageing, pigmented, blemish prone skin. I also love that the brand is always on the forefront with technology, and constantly is bring out new and more advanced products. For the last few months, I’ve put a selection of their newest to the test..
- Medik8 Micellar Mousse
- Medik8 Advanced Night Restore
- Medik8 Advanced Night Eye
- Medik8 Liquid Peptides
- Medik8 White Balance Brightening Serum
Let’s start with the Medik8 Micellar Mousse. Most brands have a micellar water in the range, and I admit that I love them. They are so effective at removing makeup, and whilst not always required, I do love splashing water in my face after taking my makeup off.
This Medik8 product is a little different as it is actually not a micellar water, well, it comes in a liquid form, but once pumped out, it is a mousse consistency, which I actually really like.
It also means that it is no longer necessary to use cotton pads - in stead you simply pump out a little bit and massage it into the skin, before rinsing off.
And the soft and rich creamy foam cleanser immediately removes all makeup, including long wearing and waterproof - and all while being super gentle, thanks also to being free from sulphates.
The skin is left purified as well as left feeling soft and smooth, thanks to the added olive oil to nourish and replenish, moringa extract, which protects the skin from pollutants in the air, and glycerin that helps enhance the skin's barrier function and reduce trans-epidermal water loss.
I really love how this Micellar Mouse is so effective at removing my makeup, leaving my skin feeling super clean and refreshed, while being so gentle on my skin.
Then there’s the Medik8 Liquid Peptides, which is a serum promising to leave the skin nourished, rejuvenated and ultimately more youthful looking. It contains 30% copper peptides in a pioneering drone delivery system to ensure results are not diminished by penetration problems, and thereby helping it absorb deeper into the epidermis for more optimum results to fight all visible signs of skin ageing.
The serum also features hyaluronic acid, to help reduce maintain hydration and skin elasticity, to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and leave the skin feeling softer, more nourished and rejuvenated and looking young, healthy and radiant. It also contains Argirelox which helps fight expression wrinkles by minimising muscle contractions to reduce expression lines, and Matrixes 3000, which is a combination peptides that stimulate collagen to help lift and firm the skin.
The serum can be used both morning and night after cleansing, and prior to moisturiser. But note, that I’ve been informed by Medik8 not to use it the same routine as products with ascorbic acid or other direct acids, such as mandelic acid (not including cleansers), as it inhibits the effectiveness of the peptides.
As I generally use a vitamin C serum in the morning, and Retinol at night, I have consequently only been using it at night prior to my retinol. The can of course mean that the results I’ve been experiencing are not as great as they otherwise could have been if used twice daily, not regardless, I have been enjoying what I’ve experienced..
It comes in a clear glass bottle (which I like as then you can clearly see how much is left), and it has a dropper making it easy to dispense the few drops needed. It has a super light gel consistency, and is quick and easy to spread across the face, and it absorbs easily and quickly too, without any stickiness. It has next to no scent.
And in spite of using just once daily, I have to say that I’ve been impressed. My skin is combination, tending oily during the summer months, so I don’t usually find it is craving moisture, but it clearly adding intense nourishment and hydration to my skin, leaving it looking soft and plumper too, to the point my lines and wrinkles do look minimised and my skin consequently more youthful. Impressive!
Then there’s the Medik8 Advanced Night Restore Rejuvenating Cellular Repair Cream, which is a rejuvenating, antioxidant, cellular repair cream designed to work with your sleep cycle to restore and deeply hydrate skin. The moisturiser is designed to work in synergy with Vitamin A serums (YAY!), to get the most out of the retinol.
Considering it is a night cream, it is quite light, yet it is also quite rich. Rich moisturisers always concern me, as they often make my skin congested and break out, but thankfully that hasn’t been the case. It absorbs fairly quickly, and leaves the skin feeling deeply nourished.
It contains among others optimised ceramides along with fatty acids and cholesterol to mimic the skins natural lipid barrier to restore and nourish the skin, and help to fight any irritation or dryness associated with vitamin A. It also contains midnight recovery complex with saskatoon berry, a cell repairing peptide and dragon fruit extract, to help repair free radical damage which has occurred throughout the day from exposure to UV rays and pollution. Finally, it also contains N-Acetyl Glucosamine This naturally occurring molecule in the body works synergistically with previously applied retinol serums to boost the production of hydrating hyaluronic acid.
My skin is quite used to strong retinols, and thankfully doesn’t get irritated, but I do like that this cream help optimise the results. I also like that It helps give my skin an intense moisture boost, as when I wake in the morning, it clearly leaves my skin feeling so soft and smooth, and without leaving my skin feel greasy, and I also love how it helps counteract any free radical damage from the previous day, all while I sleep! Just brilliant.
For the eyes, there’s the Medik8 Advanced Night Eye, which helps to rejuvenate, detox and repair tired, dull eyes, as well as it helps reduce dark circles dehydration lines, and puffiness so you can wake looking more refreshed and brighter eyed, and simply more youthful. Like the Night Cream, it is also designed to work in synergy with vitamin A serums
again, like the Night Cream, some of the key ingredients are the Midnight Recovery Complex, and N-acetyl glucosamine to repair free radical damage, and help boost the production of hyaluronic acid. But it also contains caffeine and hesperidin work that target dark circles, discolouration and puffiness, along with Matrixyl 3000, a peptide that helps firm the eye contours, diminishing appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, leaving eyes looking plump and youthful.
This cream is quite rich, but not too rich for the sensitive eye area. And with two little kids, I admit that my eye area is always in need of help, with growing bags under the eyes, along with the signs or ageing slowly creeping in. But I have been really enjoying this eye cream. It is clearly adding intense nourishment and care to the eye area, as I feel it has helped make my eye area appear more plump, and thus some finer lines minimised a bit. I also feel that it has helped make the circles and puffiness around my eyes look visibly reduced, an dry eyes generally more awake.
I have also been using the Medik8 White Balance Brightening Serum, which is a serum designed to brighten the skin by reducing pigmentation. It contains among others Oxyresveratrol Oxy-R, a skin brightening agent helps to inhibit melanin production for clearer skin complexion. It also contains Glutathione, a peptide that is a key component in the body's antioxidant recycling system, along with Turmeric Root Extract to help block the creation of pigment in the skin for a more illuminated, radiant complexion, that is also protected from free radicals. Finally, it also contains Ethylated Ascorbic Acid 20%, a stable and potent form of vitamin C, an antioxidant to help protect the skin from harmful UV rays and free radicals, while also helping to block the pathways to pigment formation in the skin.
The serum comes in two little bottles and also comes with a little pipette dropper , and before the first activation, you’ll need to press down firmly on the bottle lid until it clicks and shake for 30 seconds to activate. You then dispose of the lid and replace with the dropper.
The serum can be used morning and evening, after cleaning and prior to your usual moisturiser, but I love using a retinol at night, so I’ve only been using this in the morning.
The light serum absorbs immediately into my skin, and without stickiness. It is said that it can tingle slightly at first, due to the intensity, but I have not noticed this, but my skin is also used to stronger serums.
And in spite of only using once daily, I am really impressed with this serum, I have definitely noticed that my skin seems more even in tone, with my pigmentation and sun spots, reduced in appearance, and my skin in generally looking smoother, brighter and more radiant.
I love the packaging of this serum, and the fact that you only release the active Oxy-R into the hydrating formula below just seconds before the first application, which helps ensure that it is potent and fresh, and clearly this is the reason for its impressive effectiveness.
