PRODUCT REVIEW: MULTI-PURPOSE NATURAL SKINCARE FROM BIOME

Today I’ve got a new exciting skincare range to share with you, from Biome. Biome’s new zero waste made skin care range has been made with 100% plant, ocean and earth ingredients, from the purest natural vegan and cruelty free ingredients that are also free of additives, preservatives, synthetic fragrances and palm oil.

The products intended to simply your skincare routine, cleansing, nourishing, treating and hydrating the skin without complicated products - and as the products are multi-purpose, you can mix and match them to suit your needs.
For instance, the 3-in-1 face clay powders can be used to mask, cleanse or exfoliate by mixing with the pure plant oils, and complete with a rejuvenating hydrosol spritz distilled from nature's floral powerhouses. The Scrub and Soak range follow the same multi-tasking concept and can be used as an exfoliant and a bath soak.

The range includes four face oils, four face clays, five hydrofoils and four scrub and soaks, so that there are products for all skin types.

I’ve put a selection of the products to the test, including the 3-in-1 Bentonite, Charcoal & Witch Hazel Skin Trio, Orange Hydrosol, Which Hazel and Citrus Burst Scrub & Soak*.

Let’s start with the 3-in-1 Bentonite, Charcoal & Witch Hazel Skin Trio, intended for oily and acne prone skin, can be used as a face mask, to cleanse or to exfoliate the skin by mixing it with an oil, soap or hydrofoil, or even water, according to your skin’s need.

It contains bentonite and kaolin white clay to draw out toxins, impurities and bacteria from the skin, activated charcoal to draw out impurities from the pores, Witch Hazel powder, an anti-inflammatory that helps soothes eczema, sunburn, shaving rash and acne, along with fine pumice stone powder to exfoliate as well as peppermint and tea tree essential oils, which helps give it a nice fresh scent, and also has gives it a lovely cooling feeling on the skin.

It can be used as;

  • Mask by mixing 1 tbs of powder + 2 tsp of oil. Leaving it on for 10 minutes before rinsing off. Can be used weekly.
  • Cleanser by mixing 1 tsp powder + 1 tsp unscented liquid castile soap. Can be used daily.
  • Exfoliator by mixing 1 tb powder + 2 tsp hydrosol. Gently scrub, rinse. As needed.

I’ve been enjoying using the Skin Trio particularly as a mask, but mixing it with the Orange Hydrosol, and love how it gives my skin a deep cleanse, but without drying out or irritating my skin. Its been great for giving my breakout prone a good cleanse weekly, and helped clear out those congested pores.

Mixing it up can be a little messy, and yes, definitely more messy than using a pre-made mask, so definitely mix it over the sink. I’ve got a little glass bowl in my bathroom that I use and is perfect for it, and which does minimise the mess. Mixing the right amount, and not to mention the right consistency is also a little tricky, but again, you’ll quickly learn how much to use.

Then there’s the Orange Hydrosol, which is made from nothing but pure steam distilled Orange hydrosol, or floral water as it is also called. The Orange hydrofoil has a gorgeous sweet uplifting citrusy scent, and rejuvenating, calming and soothing properties, and is suitable for all skin types, though particularly oily, and acne prone skin as it also helps balance the skin’s sebum, and minimise pores, as orange contains a natural AHA to exfoliate the skin, all while sealing in moisture.

As well as used in the clay mask, to exfoliate and cleanse, it can be wiped over the skin with a cotton pad as a toner to remove dirt and excess sebum, or simply sprayed directly onto the skin after cleansing or throughout the day to refresh and hydrate, which is made easy thanks to its spray bottle.

This Orange Hydrosol smells absolutely amazing, so clean, pure and fresh, and I’ve therefore particular enjoyed using it on its own as a toner after cleansing, also as I’ve really love how it leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth and hydrated afterwards.

Next up is the Which Hazel which is made from nothing but distilled extract from the leaves, flowers and bark of the hamamelis tree. Witch Hazel is always said to be a great natural astringent to help tone and tighten pores, remove excess dirt and bacteria and thereby help fight breakouts and acne, though with its anti-inflammatory properties it can also help soothe eczema and sunburn, so its a great one to have in the beauty cabinet too as we head towards summer.

Again, it can be used in various combination from the masks, cleanser, exfoliator, but again, with my combination skin prone to breakouts, I have particular enjoyed using it as a toner by spraying it directly onto my skin after cleansing and I do feel that it is has been helping clear up some very stubborn deeper set pimples I’ve been fighting for some time . It does have a slightly odd scent which I am not really fond off, but it luckily fades more or less instantly, and knowing that it is 100% natural, with no added fragrances, you can certainly accept it.

Finally, there’s the Citrus Burst Scrub & Soak is intended to help exfoliate and regenerate the skin.

It contains Epsom Salt, high in magnesium to detoxify and soothe sore muscles, Tasmanian Sea Salt high in trace minerals and potassium and helps remove dead skin cells, and rejuvenate tired skin. It also contains Colloidal Oatmeal to gentle cleanse, soothe and moisture, Organic Coconut Sugar to exfoliate and freshen the skin, boosting blood circulation, along with Organic Chamomile Flowers, Organic Calendula Flowers to help soothe while the Orange, Lemon and Grapefruit Essential Oils

The Citrus Burst looks a little like tea or potpourri, and it can be used as a soak but adding directly to a warm bath and then soak, as well as a cleaner or scrub, simply by massaging onto the skin before rinsing off in the shower or bath.

I have been enjoying using it in a bath, and love how it is soothing and relaxing it is to soak in, all while the gorgeous and fresh and uplifting citrus scent fills my bathroom. It leaves my skin feeling soft and smooth.
