MAYBELLINE SUPERSTAY MATTE INK LIQUID LIPSTICKS // PRODUCT REVIEW

One of those drugstore makeup brands that I’ve always loved is Maybelline as their products are always of such high quality, right on trend, while being very affordable. And if you keen an eye out, you can frequently pick up their products at between 30-50% at stores such as Priceline and Chemist Warehouse.

Maybelline has recently launched the SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks. I admit that I’ve got a love-hate relationship with long-wearing matte liquid lipsticks at they can feel so drying on the lips, and therefore look pretty horrible too.

The Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks promises to wear for up to 16 hours, while giving the lips a saturated matte true matte finish, all while feeling comfortable on the lips, not drying them out or crumbling off. That sounds pretty amazing to me… so how do they stack up..

The SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks have a pointy foot doe applicator that makes applying them easy, and they need it, as they really are so super pigmented that a single swipe is sufficient for a saturated look. And once there, it really does stay put, so you don’t want to mess around, as if you do, you’ll be left with a bit of a stain on your lips. From the swatches I did on my arm, I was left with a stain for hours, as it simply wouldn’t budge even with micellar water or dish washing detergent!

And as for the wear on my lips - as promised, they really do not budge from there either, surviving drinks of water and coffee, and a pasta lunch too. As for the claim of 16 hours of wear, I am not sure, as I’d never wear a lipstick that long, but the fact that it stayed put even after a greasy pasta meal, I find very impressive.

The lipsticks are quite light on the lips, and do feel a little sticky, but even so, still comfortable, as they really aren’t drying on the lips. They also promise a true matte finish, but I do find the they have a touch of a sheen, but personally I actually don’t mind, in fact I actually prefer it.

To remove the SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks, I discovered that using an oil-based eye makeup remover for waterproof eye makeup or alternatively a cleansing oil proved the best solution.

They come in a square matte finish packaging, and I really love how its coloured so you can actually see the shade of the lipstick. They have a sweet vanilla scent.

The Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks come in 10 shades ranging from nude to dark and bold shades. I tried two of the shades;

Escapist - a dark Burgundy shade. Unfortunately I find this shade a little too dark and vampy to suit my skin tone, but I can imagine that it would be great for those with darker skin tones.

Pioneer - a bright blue-based red shade. This is my favourite shade of the two, and actually I think, my favourite of shade in the collection. It is a classic red shade that makes a statement. Just beautiful.

These SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks really do live up to their promise and feel comfortable not the lips and stay put, even though a meal, which is amazing. So it would be the perfect lipstick for a night out, as you simply wont need any touch-ups at all. Definitely worth trying.
