One of those brands I've heard a lot of rave about in recent months is Antipodes, and I've been very curious about their products, so when a couple of different products landed on my desk, I was very excited to try them.
Antipodes is a natural certified organic New Zealand brand that uses the best of ingredients including raw super-fruit extracts for improved anti-ageing benefits.
The Antipodes Performance Mineral Plus Mineral Foundation with SPF17, which promises soft, dewy skin with a flawless appearance. The foundation among others contain;
- Vinanza Grape & Kiwi to helps improve the appearance of skin by decreasing the excessive melanin production that causes freckling and pigmentation, undesirable redness or facial flushing, as well as it helps decrease trans-epidermal water loss, leaving skin moist and hydrated
- Jojoba oil to reduce wrinkles, and treat scars
- Earth minerals to provide sheer yet rich cover while still letting the skin breathe
The foundation is very fine, and is best applied with a kabuki brush, and it initially applies sheer, but I like that you can actually build it up to a more intense coverage where needed to help cover areas of pigmentation, redness, blemishes and scars, while still looking very natural, and not caked on, unlike many other powder foundations. I also like that it comes with SPF17, though I would have liked to see an even higher SPF to cater for the strong Australian sun. To set it, and also make it last longer, I like applying a finishing spray afterwards, which gives it an even dewier look.
With my combination skin, I am used to my skin looking a bit shiny and greasy by the afternoon, but I am actually finding that this keeps my skin looking matte throughout the day. The foundation comes in a little jar with a silver lid that makes it look very stylish, and I really like that it comes with an internal plastic stopper, so you can stop it from making a mess, it happens to be moving around in your makeup bag, or when you're travelling. Most other mineral foundations do not have this extra 'lid' and often end up very messy.
This really is a great foundation, it feels so lovely on the skin, and it really does makes my skin look and feel so much better. Definitely a keeper.
Then there's the Antipodes Moisture Boost Lipsticks, which claim that "I'm so healthy you could almost eat me".
It contains a long list of superfoods, including antibacterial beeswax, deeply moisturising shea butter and jojoba oil, and even extra Vitamin E for extra lip nourishment. But it also contains avocado oil to help to increase collagen production and keep the lips dewy and fresh, calendula oil for its anti-inflammatory properties, and argan oil to balance to balance oil production and hydrate lips for a soft, moist finish.
There are 12 beautiful shades in the range, and I tried two gorgeous red shades;
- Forrest Berry Red - A wild and warm-based true red
- Ruby Bay Rouge - Abandon the ordinary and adorn your lips with this rich tint. Cool-based yet sumptuously, extravagantly, dazzingly red
Both these shades are absolutely beautiful and right up my alley, and I am actually finding it difficult to say which of the shades is my favourite. The Forrest Berry Red is slightly brighter, while the Ruby Bay Rouge has a darker berry shade of red, but regardless both are absolutely stunning, leaving a gorgeous shade with just a touch of shine.
L-R: Ruby Bay Rouge and Forrest Berry Red |
They both have a fairly good pigmentation that can be build up with a few extra swipes, and they feel so soft and smooth on the lips, it is literally like wearing a lip balm. As they are moisturising, they wear is not the longest, and they do also transfer, but without eating or drinking, you can get 3-4 hours wear, and even when they've worn off, they leave a nice red tint behind on the lips, and the lips still soft and smooth. The come packaged in a beautiful matte black packaging with white logo, that looks super stylish.
I love the shades, I love how they feel on my lips, and I love that they are so natural that I could eat them, although that would be a waste... So I know I'll be reaching for these lipsticks again and again too.
