The GUESS 1981 has been create by Perfumer Stephen Nilsen to 'empower the wearer to be true to herself and to do what she wants in life. A confident young woman; a woman who has a strong sense of self and understands her inner essence and identity. She has her own inner compass and her intuition guides her to follow her instincts.'
GUESS 1981 celebrates different dimensions of the brand’s heritage; GUESS was founded in the year 1981 as an iconic symbol of a young, sexy and adventurous lifestyle. This simple and unfussy fragrance also embodies LA lifestyle, where the brand was founded, and echoes notes of Southern Californian nature through clean, textured woods and airy, sensual musks.
The fragrance is the first of its kind for GUESS, and it contains the following notes;
- Top notes: Violet and Ambrette
- Middle notes: Jasmine, Pear and Sandalwood
- Base notes: Cedar, Musk and Amber
Personally I find it a fresh fruity floral and slightly powdery floral and very delicate feminine scent that also has a slight sweet element thanks to the pear. It is very light scent and while it is also described as a musky scent, I cannot really detect that, but as I am not overly fond of to musky or woody scents, I really like that.
Being so fresh and light - and an eau de toilete too, does mean that it is very wearable as an everyday fragrance - I would say that it serves better as a spring and summer scent, than winter as currently here in Australia - but as fresh and fruity is my usual go to, I personally don't mind. Also the lightness does mean that it doesn’t have the longest wear, but that said, I can still smell it at night when I get home although I do like an extra spritz in the middle of the day, to freshen up.
GUESS 1981 comes in a simple clear round bottle with a silver lid, presented in a pretty and feminine pastel pink box. And overall I really like this scent, and if you like fresh fruity floral scents too, I highly recommend that you go sniff it out.
