Product Review: L’Occitane Immortelle Divine Serum Extract

I am at the age where I am starting to see an increasing number of lines and wrinkles, as well as an increasing amount of sun spots and pigmentation. And being in the midst of winter, my otherwise combination skin, prone to breakouts, is always feeling more lifeless, dull and dry. Being prone to breakouts, I always worry when trying new creams and serums, will make my skin flare up and break out, and even more so when it is anti-ageing as they tend to be richer and heavier, something my skin doesn’t always accept, yet I have realised how much my skin is liking when I am using a good serum. Here are my thoughts on the L’Occitane’s Immortelle Divine Serum Extract;

What They Say:

"Divine Extract is a serum that helps with anti-aging, so you can face the passing of time with absolute serenity."

RRP: $110 (30ml) – Available from L’Occitane

What I Say:
Recently I also reviewed the L’Occitane Divine Eyes, so if you’ve missed my review, you can see it here.

After using for four weeks, the Divine Serum Extract claims to rejuvenate the skin, making the skin visibly firmer and more youthful.  The serum  contains hyaluronic acid for its plumping effect and vitamin C to help even out the skin tone, together with minerals and trace elements to boost cellular energy It is enriched with organic concentrated immortelle which stimulates the production of collagen, boosts microcirculation and protects against free radicals, while concentrated myrtle essential oils in the formula increase collagen and elastin, restore vitality and radiance, whilst slowing down the ageing process, as well as it promises to reduce dark spots.

I was instantly impressed by the look of the serum. The gold box, and has a very detailed description of the benefits of the product, as well as its ingredients. I also love the fact that it has the brail language on the box, that is a lovely touch.

Inside the box there is a solid gold glass jar, which is so beautiful and just the epitome of luxury. The jar is see-through, which is handy so you can see exactly how much product you have left. And I love that it comes with a pump, as I find it so much more hygienic than jars of creams. And the pump is so sturdy that it makes it easy to get just the amount of product you need, so nothing is wasted. However, sometimes products in pump bottles are a little difficult to completely empty, but time is yet to tell if that will be the case.

The serum itself has a divine scent of lemon of tea, yet it is more subtle than the cream, and far from overwhelming. Lemon is my favourite scent, it is so refreshing, so I love the fact that it linger for a while after using it.

The instructions suggest applying the serum with a specific energising massaging technique – this took a little getting used to, but I could definitely see the benefits of the increased blood circulation in my face, and hence improving the absorption of the serum.

The serum is very concentrated and I found that two pumps were more than sufficient to cover my face and neck area. If I used any more I simply felt that I was drowning my skin, and it would not absorb, but rather sit on top of the skin. The Serum absorbs instantly and afterwards my skin feels velvety soft and smooth, and without any greasy feeling. Though using it both morning and night, when waking up in the morning, my skin felt and looked radiant and glowing and felt so soft and smooth and so thoroughly moisturised.

After having used the cream at night for almost 8 weeks, my skin feels extremely moisturised -gone is the winter dryness. My skin both feels and looks so soft and so much smoother. Fine lines seems to have plumped out, though sadly still there. My skin does seems more radiant and glowing, and more even toned and the pigmentation and sun spots seems to be so much less noticeable (though I have to say that they always do seem lighter during winter as the summer tan fades more and more!). And didn’t need to fear about breakouts, as in spite of the rich and concentrated serum, I have not seen an increase in the amount of the breakouts that I get.

Retailing at $110 for a 30ml serum, it is not exactly cheap, but after almost two months of use, I still have sufficient serum left for probably another two months, which does justify the high cost.

All in all it is a divine serum of such high quality, that has showing such amazing results, and therefore I would not hesitate recommending it. It may be pricey, but I see taking care of my skin is an investment, and if you can afford it, you really won’t be disappointed.

Have you tried any of the products from L’Occitane? Do you use a serum? What’s your favourite? And do you get sucked in by a gorgeous packaging as well..?

  2. Thanks for the review. I asked my husband to buy me one in the US and i hope it works for me too. My concern is just that i have oily skin and I might breakout since I am assuming this is oil based..

    1. Yeah, it is, but it is ok with my combination skin, and I am prone to breakouts if creams are too heavy or concentrated!
