Product Review: Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer

It hasn’t been long since I discovered the magic of primers. Having combination skin, I have always struggled to get my makeup to stay put. Even using special foundation for combination to oily skin, it just seems to start sliding off my face at lunchtime and even worse during the hot and humid summer days. But with the use of primers, my makeup not only looks nicer, it simply stays put for so much longer too. Here are my thoughts on the *Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance;

What They Say:
The Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer claims to provide a "soft focus effect to minimise the look of imperfections with a radiant finish. Creating the ultimate canvas for foundation and makeup, the new Radiance Foundation Primer provides a sheer, healthy glow to the skin, for a perfect gorgeous base."

RRP: $45 (50ml) – Available from David Jones, Myer and Adore Beauty

What I Say:
The actual primer is a light cream that is slightly tinted and has a pearlescent sheen. Often shimmery products are the worst enemy for those with combination and oily skin, as they simply make the skin look even greasier. But not with the Radiance Foundation Primer, as once applied to the skin, it gives the skin a nice healthy glow, and the sheen is nice and subtle, and not too shimmery so it doesn’t make my skin look like a disco queen. Adding foundation or tinted moisturiser on top, does reduce this sheen a little, however, it still leaves the skin look luminous.

The Radiance Foundation Primer works wonders for making my foundation looking fresh for longer, adding several additional hours before I need to do any touch ups. It also helps stop my foundation from settling into fine lines and wrinkles, which is great, especially if you like me have ageing skin.

The Radiance Foundation Primer is intended to be used as a primer, after moisturiser, but before tinted moisturiser or foundation, but some days I actually found myself using it on its own, as it simply gives my skin such a nice healthy glow and leaves my skin with a soft dewy finish. It also helps even out the skin tone, reducing any redness, minor blemishes and pigmentation as well as it minimises the look of the large pores I have on particular my nose, and fine lines around my eye area and my forehead.

I have also tried to use the Radiance Foundation Primer on top of my foundation, and it works brilliantly as a highlighter on my cheek bones and under my brows, adding a touch more sheen than when used underneath the foundation.

The actual Radiance Foundation Primer is a lightweight cream, which spreads easily onto the skin, and absorbs quickly, yet still allows enough time to work it into the skin. It is quite concentrated so only a little is needed, although more can easily be added for a little more sheen. It has next to no scent, which is a nice change, as often I find that makeup products are too over-perfumed.

At $45 for 50ml this is not a cheap primer, but as it also doubles as a highlighter, can be used on its own, and really does make such a difference to the look of my make, and not to mention, makes me use less foundation, I really find that this is a worthwhile investment. I really have no negatives to say about the Radiance Foundation Primer and consequently I give it top marks. Highly recommended.
