PRODUCT REVIEW: NATURA SIBERICA NORTHERN DETOX SOAP, BLACK CLEANSING BUTTER AND MICELLAR WATER

Today I am going to talk about some cleaning products from Natura Siberica, which is an organic range of beauty products made from ingredients, including wild harvested herbs sourced from the unspoilt lands of Siberia.

I’ve put the the following products to the test from the Northern Collection;

Northern Soap for Deep Facial Cleansing*
Black Cleansing Butter*
Cleansing Micellar Water*

Let’s start with the Northern Soap for Deep Facial Cleansing. This soap is different to anything I’ve tried before.

The soap is contains among others;

  • Activated carbon (charcoal), to absorb excess oil and impurities from the skin
  • Oblepikha Oil to soften, tone, nourish, and improve skin elasticity
  • Siberian Cedar Oil, with vitamin E and vitamin P to help moisturise and strengthen the skin, and regulate the renewal of skin cells.
  • Flax seed oil for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties
  • Extract of Dwarf Birch buds to moisturise the skin, promote regeneration and restore the natural colour and firmness of skin
  • Cloudberry extract with vitamin C, Omega 3 and Omega-6 acids, for its anti-oxidant effects to restore the skin and protect it from external influences.
  • Bilberry extract to stimulate metabolic processes in skin cells, improve tone and elasticity
  • Sakhalin Raspberry seed oil for its bactericidal properties

The actual soap comes in a gorgeous black tub, and the actual soap is black too due to the charcoal, and it has a nice scent that reminds me a little of almonds. It comes with a sponge that you wet with water and then use to apply the soap onto the dry (makeup free) face. You then massage it into the skin for a few moments before rinsing it off. It is recommend to use it once or twice weekly for best results. It is quite thick, so you only need to use a small amount, so the tub will be lasting you a while.

And while it is called a soap, I’d actually rather classify it as a mask, leaving it on my skin for a few minutes, and then rinsing it off in the shower - and when I say shower, I say so because the black charcoal can be a tad messy, so it is simply easier to rinse off in the shower, and also use it on a ‘hair wash day’ to make sure you can completely clean your face.

After use, my skin is clearly left looking and feeling soft and clean, and also more refined and less greasy too, with pores appearing less congested too. I like that it feels gentle on the skin, and that while it is giving my skin a deep clean, it doesn’t leave my skin feeling tight or dry after use. Used a few times a week for a few minutes, I am sure it has helped keep my skin clearer and less greasy too.

Next is the Black Cleansing Butter, which is intended for dry and sensitive skin types. Unlike the Northern Soap, this Black Cleansing Butter is actually a cleanser that also helps remove makeup, including eye-makeup.

It contains among others;
  • Charcoal to absorb impurities and deep cleanse pores
  • Organic Linen Oil to nourish and soften
  • Organic Oils of Siberian Pine and Altai Sea Buckthorn, combined with Wild Rhodiola Rosea leave to leave the skin soft, supple and radiant
To use, you simply use the small spatula that’s included in the pack, to scoop out a small amount of the Cleansing Butter. You then massage it into the dry skin, including the eye area (though close your eyes so it doesn’t irritate them!). You then moisten your hands a little and massage a little more, and the Cleansing Butter emulsifies and transforms into a silky soft cleansing milk. The cleanser rinses off the skin quickly and easily.
I found that it easily removed all my makeup, including long-wearing foundation, but personally didn’t like using it on my eyes, as they are extremely sensitive, so simply prefer using a specific eye makeup remover there.

Afterwards my skin is left feeling clean and refined, but again without feeling tight or dried, but rather feeling really soft and smooth and with a nice glow.

The Cleansing Butter has a subtle floral scent, and it is quite concentrated, so you honestly don’t need much more than 1/2 a teaspoon full or so, to clean your entire face.

It comes in the same style black jar as the Northern Soap, and I admit that I quite like the matte look and design of these jars - my only negative is that they have a curved lid, which makes it impossible for me to stack them on top of each other in my beauty cabinet, so I would much prefer it they had a more simple flat lid for practicality reasons.

Finally, there’s the Cleansing Micellar Water, which is a little different from the clear micellar waters that I usually use on a regular basis. This one contains among others;

  • Charcoal to draw out impurities and open pores.
  • Organic extracts of Melilot, Wild Northern Cloudberry and Limonnik Nanai to infuse the skin with vitamins, help to moisten skin, stimulate its renewal and promote its anti-oxidant resilience
  • Organic Birch extract to energise

As the micellar contains charcoal, it needs to be shaken well before use, which leaves it with a dark brown along charcoal colour, although it is almost clear when put onto a cotton pad.

It promises to help give the skin an even deeper level of cleansing thanks to the charcoal, removing both makeup and pollutants, as well as help draw out dirt, oil and other impurities from the skin.

The micellar is recommended for use on both face and eye area, and I found that sweeping the soaked cotton pad across my face a few times, it did remove my makeup fairly easily, but I find that it struggled a bit with my waterproof mascara and eyeliner - and again, having very sensitive eyes, I did give up and used my regular eye makeup remover in stead. That said, I did enjoy the feeling of the light fresh texture of this micellar.

That said, micellar are a great way for removing makeup without the use of water, - and I generally love using foaming cleansers where you can do that, and just use the micellar for my eye makeup - and with this one not managing to remove my waterproof makeup, I am not sure that I’d purchase again for use as a makeup remover. It however great to use on non makeup days, where you still want to give your skin a quick but deep clean clean.

Overall, these product are really lovely, and I love that they are a little different from everything else I’ve tried. My favourite is no doubt the Detox Soap, as I feel it really is making to my skin and the amount of breakouts I’ve been getting, so I’d definitely consider repurchasing again.
