PRODUCT REVIEW: LADY GAGA EAU DE GAGA

I have to admit that I am a bit of a crazy perfume collector. I have more than I can count, yet I keep adding to my collection, as I am simply one of those who believe in a single signature scent, but rather that there are so many lovely fragrances out there to be enjoyed and that there is something for every occasion and personality. So when I was asked to trial the newest fragrance from Lady Gaga, Eau de Gaga, I happily accepted. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:

this exciting new scent captures the pure essence of Gaga. Dangerously daring, Eau de Gaga represents the future of a scent that appeals to both men and women; nothing is off-limits. Eau de Gaga is an enigmatic scent, fusing daringly diverse elements to create a beguiling allure. The fragrance is built around a beautiful heart of white violet, an intoxicating flower that fuses male and female attractions. To counterbalance this opulent woody-floral intensity, the scent opens with an invigorating burst of sparkling lime that exudes dynamic vibrancy. And it evolves into a sensual trail based on leather, adding a primal quality to the scent.

RRP: $49 (50ml), $69 (75ml) – Available from Myer, Priceline and selected Pharmacies

What I Say:

When I first received the Eau de Gaga, I was instantly impressed. The black and square designed bottle looked so luxurious, with its simple, sleek and modern design, and its silver plaque bearing the name, somewhat reminded me of Chanel – in fact, if it hadn’t said Lady Gaga on the bottle, I would have immediately mistaken it for a Chanel fragrance. The red metallic box with the black edging and the silver label once again bearing the name of the fragrance, only aided in this delusion.

The fragrance has the composition:

  • Top notes: Lime
  • Middle Notes: White violet
  • Base Notes: leather and wood

Next I was very surprised when I realised that the fragrance was in fact a unisex scent designed to appeal to both men and women! That is very rare these days to see a specifically designed unisex fragrance, and it certainly brings back memories from when CK One was launched many moons ago!

So what is the fragrance like? True to the description it is very zesty, which instantly ticks a box for me, I LOVE citrusy scents. But unlike others citrusy scents that I’ve come across (or have got in my collection), this one is a warm and slightly spicy scent at the same time no doubt from the woody component, while I however do struggle to pick out the violet notes in the scent.

Often ‘warm’ scents are often heavy, but luckily that is not the case with Eau de Gaga, as I generally do not like scents that are too heavy. In saying that, it is certainly a bit heavier than fragrances that I usually fall for, and particularly those that I tend to wear during the warmer summer months, - hence I would also find this fragrance more suitable to wear during autumn and winter, regardless if it is daytime or night-time wear.

My husband also instantly took a liking to the fragrance, although his first impression was that it was more of a masculine scent than a female scent, so it appears that I won’t get to keep this one to myself!

The scent wears quite well, although I do feel the need to reapply by the afternoon. I would have like it to be a little longer-lasting as I generally forget to reapply perfume during the day, of if I am out, I simply don’t want to carry a perfume around in my already overfilled handbag!

I have mixed feeling about celebrity fragrances, they seem to pop up faster than you can keep up with, and disappear in no time again, and often I find that they often come in tacky bottles and have simple composition. So with Eau de Gaga I am impressed to say that neither is the case. Both the actual presentation in the luxurious looking bottle down to the scent, in my opinion is up there along with the more expensive designer scents.

  1. I loooove perfume, but I've held back from buying any for a year or so because I wanted to use up a few first. Eau de Gaga doesn't sound like the most appealing name, does it? Can't lie, though, I'm going to have to sniff it out when I'm next in Myer or Priceline, because it does sound like it'd be a great fragrance!
