What They Say:
"With the
ability to remove up to six times more makeup than manual cleansing, the Derma
Sonic uses sonic frequency to gently but effectively cleanse and buff the skin,
removing build up of dead skin cells and impurities."
RRP: $119.00 – Available from Myer, Priceline or Skin Physics
What I Say:
I have to be honest and admit that I have been using a
Clairsonic brush for quite some time now, so I am not new to this type of
cleansing the skin. I bought the brush when I got pregnant, and could no longer
use certain products due to their ingredient potentially harming my unborn
child – I bought the brush, and stared using basic cleansers to save my skin
from breaking out, and I have loved the results from day one. I have heard and read several times that once you start using a facial cleansing brush your skin often starts to breakout for a little while, as it is purging all the built up dead skin cells etc, and then it slowly clears up again. But I have to say that when I started using the brush, it wasn’t the case with my skin, it just instantly got better.
And of course having used the Clairsonic brush previously, I
also cannot say if this 'break out period' is the case with the Derma Sonic
brush, but I guess it really comes down to the condition of the individual
skin.
The Derma
Sonic comes with:
- Holder/Charging cradle for the brush
- Derma Sonic Brush
- Brush head for normal skin types (white)
- Brush attachment for sensitive skin types (pink)
- Brush head to use on the body
- User manual
The Derma
Sonic claims to in just 60 seconds using a micro-massaging action dislodge six
times more dirt, oil and makeup from the skin than ordinary cleansing – and
this dirt, oil and makeup may otherwise get trapped in pores leaving skin
congested, dry, dull and flakey. It also claims to help reduce the appearance
of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and may improve overall skin tone and texture.
The Derma
Sonic has four speed settings for the face, and two settings for the body that allow
you to control the effect and feel on the skin, and it is waterproof and can be
used in the shower for a super quick deep cleanse.
Derma Sonic
recommends using the brush on the forehead for 20 seconds, on the nose and chin
for 20 seconds and 10 seconds on each cheek as they are more sensitive and
generally not as congested, and hence do not require as much and as in-depth
cleansing.
So how did the
Derma Sonic perform…
It is extremely
easy to use, and I love that this brush has the timer built in, as it ensures
that you do not over cleanse a certain area, and this is perfect if you are new
to cleansing brushes, as it tells you when to move on to the next area of your
face, much in the same way as some electric tooth brushes. I also love that it
has four speed settings, low, normal, high and pro as well as it has two body
settings, pulse and constant, so you can change depending on your skin type and
requirements at the time.
After having used
the brush for several weeks, once daily as I feel that twice daily is too much
for my skin - I am loving that I know every single trace of makeup is removed
and the results are evident – regular use has resulted in my skin feeling less
greasy and congested, and consequently less breakouts. And because my skin is
less greasy, my makeup also stays put looking nicer for longer. But as for a
more even skin tone and reducing the size of my pores, I have to say that I
have not noticed any difference.
What I Like:
- That it has 4 facial cleansing speed settings and two Body Cleansing settings, so there is a setting for any skin type
- That it is waterproof and can be used in the shower
- That it comes with three brushes in the initial kit, that is more than other brushes on the market
- That it is well priced compared to similar brushes on the market
- That it is readily available in Priceline and Myer
- When fully charged, and used once daily, it lasts almost two weeks before it needs to be recharged
- That it is an
Australian brand
What I Don’t Like:
- The actual brush is a little big and bulky, so lucky you only have to hold it in your hand for such a short time
- Both the facial brushes come with covers to protect the bristles, but unfortunately there is no cover for the body brush
- Apart from the red
on the brush, the brush and the holder/charging cradle look almost like an
identical copy of Clairsonic (Although with the improvement of additional speed
settings), and I much prefer when brands establish their own designs and
identity
Overall, this is a fantastic cleansing brush, and it is definitely comparable in quality to the much more expensive Clairsonic – yet the Derma Sonic has the more speed settings and as an added bonus it also comes with three brush heads as well as it is an Australian brand. So if you are in the market for a facial cleansing brush, I’d highly recommend that you check out the Derma Sonic from Skin Physics, it’s a fantastic contender and you won’t be disappointed.

Ok, hands down, I need this in my life. If it doesn't give you break-outs, then it's totally up my alley.

It really helps keep my skin clear, as it cleans deep down every single pore, while still being gentle, its brilliant!
DeleteThis sounds lovely :D I'm happy with my Olay one at the moment but this has a lot better features than the Olay!
ReplyDeleteI have also tried the one from Olay, and it is a fantastic budget alternative, but yes, obviously the Derma Sonic has more features, so if you can afford the extra money, I feel it is totally worth it!
