PRODUCT REVIEW: SKIN PHYSICS ADVANCE SUPERLIFT NECK LIFTING AND FIRMING CREAM

I've looked after my skin on my face for as long as I remember, but openly admit that I have neglected my neck and décolleté, and never really specifically have used neck and chest creams until recently, so I was very excited when I was offered to trial the Skin Physics Advance SUPERLIFT™ Neck Lifting & Firming Cream.

In my mid-40s I am sadly starting to see age creep in, with increasing lines, wrinkles, the skin appears to be thinner, and pigmentation is starting to get very prominent, and sadly increasing each summer, in spite of how careful I am with sun exposure.

The cream claims to help fight the signs of ageing and restore a firm, tight and more youthful appearance to the skin around the neck, jawline, chin and chest, adding hydration to the skin, while it helps repair the skin to address wrinkles and elastin breakdown, increase cell to cell communication for deep skin repair, and redistribute fat deposits from sagging areas to a more youth-enhancing position, all while lifting and tightening the skin.

The cream contains among others;
  • Edelweiss Plant Cell Extract to provide the skin with a lifting action within just 3 weeks
  • Elastin-Lift Peptide Complex with Crocus Chrysanthus Flower to help support the skin's own natural production and strengthening of elastin
  • Actigym (Plankton Extract), Caffeine, Omega 9 and 6, as well as Rice Bran Oil to help create a visibly toned look

This means that this Skin Physics Advance SUPERLIFT™ Neck Lifting & Firming Cream sadly doesn't address pigmentation, which is my only negative, but that doesn't mean that it isn't efficient - it is, and believe me, after using it for a few weeks, I have to say that I am impressed…

The cream is quite rich yet it absorbs fairly quickly into the skin without any greasy feeling. It also has a lovely scent that lingers on the skin for a while - it is a little strong, so if you're sensitive to fragrances, you may find it a little overwhelming, but personally I don’t mind it. The cream comes in a heavy-duty frosted plastic jar with a silver lid, making it look stylish and luxurious, but I would just have loved if I also came with a small spatula so I wouldn't have keep dipping my hands into the jar.

I've been massaging the cream into my neck and décolleté morning and night for a few weeks, and you immediately see and feel how moisturising and nourishing this cream is on the skin. And already after a few days of using the cream, I started to feel and see that the firmness of the skin on my neck and chest area improving, with finer lines and wrinkles clearly minimising in appearance and my skin looking softer, more plump and toned, and overall simply more youthful.

At $89 this is not a cheap cream, but I would not hesitate spending that amount on a cream for my face, and really my neck and décolleté deserves the same, and with results that clearly speak for themselves in just a few weeks, why wouldn't you give it a try! And overall I am really enjoying using this cream, and can see myself purchasing it again.

Product Review: Skin Physics Derma Sonic Power Cleansing Brush

I have always struggled with my skin breaking out, and even now where I should focus solely on anti-ageing products, it is sadly not the case with my skin, and I continuously need to take extra care looking after and cleansing my skin. And that’s where a facial cleansing brush comes in handy cleansing deep down every pore. Here are my thoughts on the *Skin Physics Derma Sonic Power Cleansing Brush;

What They Say:
"With the ability to remove up to six times more makeup than manual cleansing, the Derma Sonic uses sonic frequency to gently but effectively cleanse and buff the skin, removing build up of dead skin cells and impurities."

RRP: $119.00 – Available from Myer, Priceline or Skin Physics

What I Say:
I have to be honest and admit that I have been using a Clairsonic brush for quite some time now, so I am not new to this type of cleansing the skin. I bought the brush when I got pregnant, and could no longer use certain products due to their ingredient potentially harming my unborn child – I bought the brush, and stared using basic cleansers to save my skin from breaking out, and I have loved the results from day one.

I have heard and read several times that once you start using a facial cleansing brush your skin often starts to breakout for a little while, as it is purging all the built up dead skin cells etc, and then it slowly clears up again. But I have to say that when I started using the brush, it wasn’t the case with my skin, it just instantly got better.

And of course having used the Clairsonic brush previously, I also cannot say if this 'break out period' is the case with the Derma Sonic brush, but I guess it really comes down to the condition of the individual skin.

The Derma Sonic comes with:
  • Holder/Charging cradle for the brush
  • Derma Sonic Brush
  • Brush head for normal skin types (white)
  • Brush attachment for sensitive skin types (pink)
  • Brush head to use on the body
  • User manual

The Derma Sonic claims to in just 60 seconds using a micro-massaging action dislodge six times more dirt, oil and makeup from the skin than ordinary cleansing – and this dirt, oil and makeup may otherwise get trapped in pores leaving skin congested, dry, dull and flakey. It also claims to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and may improve overall skin tone and texture.

The Derma Sonic has four speed settings for the face, and two settings for the body that allow you to control the effect and feel on the skin, and it is waterproof and can be used in the shower for a super quick deep cleanse.

Derma Sonic recommends using the brush on the forehead for 20 seconds, on the nose and chin for 20 seconds and 10 seconds on each cheek as they are more sensitive and generally not as congested, and hence do not require as much and as in-depth cleansing.

So how did the Derma Sonic perform…
It is extremely easy to use, and I love that this brush has the timer built in, as it ensures that you do not over cleanse a certain area, and this is perfect if you are new to cleansing brushes, as it tells you when to move on to the next area of your face, much in the same way as some electric tooth brushes. I also love that it has four speed settings, low, normal, high and pro as well as it has two body settings, pulse and constant, so you can change depending on your skin type and requirements at the time.

And I love that you can get such a deep clean of your skin without the use of harsh chemicals. Combined with even the gentlest of cleaners, you can really feel that any excess sebum and gunk is swept from every single pore, leaving the skin feeling incredibly soft and smooth, and with a nice glow, and without any irritations at all. Following with a serum and moisturiser, both absorb more quickly than usual.

After having used the brush for several weeks, once daily as I feel that twice daily is too much for my skin - I am loving that I know every single trace of makeup is removed and the results are evident – regular use has resulted in my skin feeling less greasy and congested, and consequently less breakouts. And because my skin is less greasy, my makeup also stays put looking nicer for longer. But as for a more even skin tone and reducing the size of my pores, I have to say that I have not noticed any difference.

What I Like:
  • That it has 4 facial cleansing speed settings and two Body Cleansing settings, so there is a setting for any skin type
  • That it is waterproof and can be used in the shower
  • That it comes with three brushes in the initial kit, that is more than other brushes on the market
  • That it is well priced compared to similar brushes on the market
  • That it is readily available in Priceline and Myer
  • When fully charged, and used once daily, it lasts almost two weeks before it needs to be recharged
  • That it is an Australian brand

What I Don’t Like:
  • The actual brush is a little big and bulky, so lucky you only have to hold it in your hand for such a short time
  • Both the facial brushes come with covers to protect the bristles, but unfortunately there is no cover for the body brush
  • Apart from the red on the brush, the brush and the holder/charging cradle look almost like an identical copy of Clairsonic (Although with the improvement of additional speed settings), and I much prefer when brands establish their own designs and identity

Overall, this is a fantastic cleansing brush, and it is definitely comparable in quality to the much more expensive Clairsonic – yet the Derma Sonic has the more speed settings and as an added bonus it also comes with three brush heads as well as it is an Australian brand. So if you are in the market for a facial cleansing brush, I’d highly recommend that you check out the Derma Sonic from Skin Physics, it’s a fantastic contender and you won’t be disappointed.

Product Review: Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus Cream

I have always struggled with my skin. Combination skin with frequent breakouts, and as I’ve gotten older, I’ve also added pigmentation to the list. Consequently I have always preferred to use foundations with at least a medium coverage, in order to cover any blemishes and pigmentation. But then I got pregnant, and although I had feared the opposite, by skin actually cleared up, and has never been clearer. So I realised that now I too could enjoy using the ever so popular BB Creams, and achieve a more natural makeup look. Here are my thoughts on the *Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus Cream;

What They Say:
"Featuring anti-ageing actives like Renovage® to help visibly revive skin. Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus may reduce the appearance of: fine lines, wrinkles, crow’s feet, blemishes, dry dehydrated skin, dark circles, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone AND MORE!"
Available in 3 adjustable shades: Fair, medium and dark

RRP: $39 (40ml) – Available from Selected Myer and selected salons, chemists and pharmacies.

What I Say:
The Skin Physics Instant Age Reset BB Plus 7 in 1 Complexion Correction Balm with Renovage claims to be an absolute multi-tasker, helping to firm, tone, and brighten your skin smoothing and refining the appearance of visible pores, fine lines and wrinkles.

In addition it is formulated with a unique anti-ageing complex featuring Renovage and a biomimetic tetrapeptide which may help to restructure the skin for reducing the appearance of sun damage, fine line and wrinkles, enlarged pores, slackened skin and elasticity, dry dehydrated skin and uneven skin tone. Sounds pretty good to me!

I instantly liked the look of this Skin Physics BB Cream. It comes in a gorgeous red tube with a pump, which I am always in favour of as it makes it easy to get just the amount of cream you need.

The actual cream is quite light, and is very easy to blend into the skin using my fingers. I tried shade Medium, which is a perfect match for my medium being skin tone.

The Cream absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving my skin feeling moisturised, yet without feeling or looking greasy. My sin is left nice and soft, and with a healthy glow and a dewy look.

My skin tone is definitely evened out, but as it has a light coverage, it means that larger marks and pigmentation are still very visible, and a concealer is required to hide these. But in saying that, the coverage of the BB cream can be built up slightly, while still giving a natural look.

Having combination skin, unfortunately it does not stay put all day as by mid-day, my t-zone is shining a fair bit and a touch up is required. However, when using a primer first and also using a powder on top the morning it does stay put for longer before a touch up is required.
Skin Physics claims that this BB Cream is a 7 in 1 cream – but does it live up to its claims?

In regards to keeping the skin hydrated, it definitely ticks that box. As soon as I’ve applied the cream, but skin feels thoroughly hydrated. And when I remove it at night, my skin feels soft and smooth and very moisturised, almost as if I have just removed a moisture mask! Yet it does so without making my skin feel clogged up or congested, and after using this BB cream for a while, I have also not noticed any increase in breakouts, which I am otherwise prone to (and which other BB creams have caused!).

On refining the appearance of visible pores, fine lines and wrinkles, as the BB Cream is so moisturising, it also means that the cream doesn’t settle into these fine lines and wrinkles, and at least don’t aggravate them making them look worse than they are. But as for long-term and permanent effects, I am yet to notice any.

As for reducing the appearance of sun damage and assisting with uneven skin tone, and covering enlarged pores, the light coverage of the BB Cream does even out my skin tone and cover pigmentation, although darker spots are not completely hidden. And again, I am yet to notice any long-term and permanent effects.

Nevertheless, it is a lovely BB Cream, and although it has such a light coverage, I really like how it makes my skin feel so soft and look so glowing. And I really like that it contains SPF15, although an even higher SPF never goes astray.

At $39, I find that this is a reasonable price for a BB Cream with anti-ageing properties, also because with 40ml in the tube, it is larger than most other BB Creams or foundations, which usually only come in 30ml tubes. It works great for my combination skin, and because it is so moisturising, I can only imagine that it would also work very well for those with drier skin types as well. I highly recommend that you try it, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Haul: Best in Beauty 2012

Each year Beauty Heaven holds the Best in Beauty awards, which they kind of classify as a kind of like the Hollywood Hall of Fame, where some of the best beauty legends are honoured within every category from face, body, hair, nails etc. The Best in Beauty awards honour an outstanding product in each category.

The products have been nominated by the beauty industry (with the only rule that the products must be products must be available for review on Beauty Heaven, which is seriously not an issue, as almost every product imaginable is listed on there.

Hereafter it is up to the members of Beauty Heaven to judge the nominated products through reviews and star ratings, as well as through a ballot where members can award their three favourite nominated products the secret points.

Once the winning products have been announced, fifteen members of Beauty Heaven who have participated in the voting, will also have the chance to win a pack worth over $1600, containing many of the winning products.
