Product Review: Mary Kay At Play Jelly Lip Gloss

As any other beauty blogger I love when I come across new products and brands. Now, Mary Kay is not exactly new to me, I have seen the brand mentioned in various magazines and on blogs, just never had the opportunity to trial any of the products, so when I was asked to trial a selection of a new range called Mary Kay At Play, I happily accepted. Here are my thoughts on the *Mary Kay At Play Jelly Lip Glosses;

What They Say:
"Lip sync to full-on glossy goodness with a fun jelly texture. Offers brilliant, intense shine with a sheer wash of colour. Leaves lips feeling soft, smooth and quenched with moisture. Provides an ultra-glossy look and comfortable wear. Available in 2 colours."

RRP: $16 – Available from Independent Beauty Consultants and Mary Kay Online

What I Say:
I have never tried a jelly formula gloss before, so I was very excited about this. However, at the same time, I was a little concerned thinking that surely the jelly formula was going to be very sticky. But I was pleasantly surprised when I realised that they had a very nice lightweight formula, that was far from sticky or tacky.

I tried the jelly lip glosses in Berry Me and Teddy Bare. The Berry Me is a lovely berry red colour, while the Teddy Bare is a nice medium nude shade, although if I had to pick my favourite it would be the Berry Me.

Both glosses goes on the lips very easily thanks to the squeezy tube applicator. They leave the lips with a nice shiny finish.
The glosses are pigmented, yet they go on sheer, and they feel so comfortable to wear as they are so moisturising, so even after the colour has worn off, the lips feel soft and smooth, almost as if you’ve just applied a lip balm.
As with any other lipgloss, they haven’t got the longest staying power, especially if I eat or drink, although the darker colour, the Berry Me seems to stay on the lips for longer than the Teddy Bare. Both glosses have next to no scent.

What I Like:
  • A nice glossy shine
  • Non-sticky
  • Sheer, yet leaves the lips with a nice colour
  • Very moisturising
  • Well priced

What I Don’t Like:
  • Only available through independent beauty consultants and through Mary Kay Online – so the products are not available in retail shops, so you can view and play with colours before purchasing
  • Only two colours available – it would be nice with a larger colour selection

Overall, I am really enjoying using these Jelly Lipglosses from Mary Kay. Both colours are very lovely and I love how they feel to wear. At $16, I find that they are very well priced too, for a lipgloss of that high quality. These were the first makeup items that I’ve tried from Mary Kay, and I’ve been so impressed, that they without doubt won’t be the last!

Have you ever tried any of the makeup products from Mary Kay? Or maybe a jelly lipgloss?
