Product Review: Violet Box March 2014

Another month has gone by, - can you believe it, we are already three months, a quarter into the new year, and a month into autumn! And yesterday the *March Violet Box arrived at my door, here are my thoughts;

What They Say:

Violet Box brands promises to every month include 4-6 premium beauty and lifestyle samples from well-known and trusted Australian beauty brands as well as exciting new International brands, one in particular is a revolutionary product currently trending in New York and has been featured in Vogue and on the Today Show!

RRP: You can subscribe to Violet Box for:

1 month – $22.95

3 months - $66.00

6 months - $130

12 months - $250
Available from Violet Box

What I Say:

As per the usual, the Violet Box arrived in a narrower sized black matte box, with the magnetic closure and a purple ribbon – and while this box is very simple in look, I do prefer the simplicity of it and have kept quite a few of them to store small things such as jewellery etc.

Anyway, this is what was in the March Violet Box…

Love Those Lashes New Silk Strip Lashes – Full Size (RRP: $14.95)
These lashes claims to be reusable up to 15 times and come in a protective case to store them in. they come with the glue and can be cut and shaped to fit eye shape and size. I have to be honest and admit that I am not the biggest user of false lashes, as with a baby it is rare that we go out to special occasions where I feel they are suitable, and for everyday wear, I struggle as it is finding time to do my makeup!! In saying that, these are nicer than by far the majority of false lashes that I’ve come across lately, and they do look quite natural, so I look forward to trying them out. Now I just need to find a babysitter, LOL!

Starlooks Gem Pencil – Full Size (RRP: $19.50)

This eyeliner has a metallic finish, and as claimed it has a very soft and creamy finish. In fact it truly soft that it can be used as both eyeliner and eye base claimed.
Left as an eyeliner, and right is blended
I got the shade Amethyst, which is a metallic dusty pink/lavender shade, which is lovely, but firstly I generally prefer darker eyeliners, such as taupes, browns and blacks (I’m quit conservative with my makeup), and secondly, unfortunately I am at the age where I find that the use of intense glitter finishes is not of use.

Sinful Colors Nail Polish - Full Size (RRP: $4.95)

I’ve previously received a Sinful Nail Polish in some box, sorry cannot remember which one, so as such it doesn’t excite me that much, as I do like trying out new brands. But in saying that, another nail polish added never goes astray, and the colour I got, GoGo Girl, is a lovely bright red, so I will definitely be using this one.

Acorelle Skincare Serum –Sample Size, 2ml (RRP: $58.00)

I have never heard of this brand before, so this does excite me, plus the fact that I love love love serums and I am always on the chase for great ones. This one is perfect for my skin, claiming to fight signs of ageing due to the high contents of powerful anti-oxidants. The sample is unfortunately very tiny, and I would have loved to see a larger sample to be able to use it for a little longer to see how it performs, but nonetheless, I am still looking forward to testing it out.

Mineresse Vevet Lip Lift Moisture Shine Lipgloss – Sample, 1.5g (RRP: $39.95)

This lipgloss claims to have a plumping effect due to the included micro-collagen, and it not only has an instant plumping effect, it is also working long-term as an anti-ageing lip treatment. I got the colour 47, which is a lovely pinky-coral shade, which is perfect for everyday casual wear. I have heard a lot about this lipgloss, so I look forward to seeing how it performs.

So there you go, this was the contents of the March Violet Box. With the inclusion of the lashes, the nail polish and the eyeliner, the box does contain three full sized products, but rarely wearing false lashes, not being able to use the eyeliner, and the nail polish being ‘old news’ I am not too excited about these products, and consequently I am unfortunately I am not quite as impressed with the March box as I have been with previous month’s boxes, including the February box which contained two full sized Be A Bombshell products.

I am sadly more excited about the two samples, the Acorelle Serum and the Mirenesse Lipgloss, but again, as they are only samples, they do not make up for the cost of the box.

In saying that, again, I will make use of both the lashes and also the nail polish, and I am sure I can find a good home for the Starlooks Eyeliner, so these products are not a completely waste, but if you wear false lashes more frequently than I do, and are a little more experimental with your makeup than little old conservative me, then I am sure you will love this months box. But as Violet Box generally goes from strength to strength and has impressed me every month since launch, I am not too upset with this, as there also has to be products included to suit every taste and style.

*Product was kindly provided for consideration, and has reviewed in accordance with my Disclosure Policy.

What do you think of the products of this month’s Violet Box? Did you get this months’ box too? What did you think? And if not, would you consider subscribing?

And of course, as always, if you’d like to see an in-depth review of any of products in the box, leave me a comment below..

Brand Focus: Ausganica – Plus INTERNATINAL GIVEAWAY

As a beauty blogger and lover of all beauty products, I love it when I come across new brands, and hence I was quite excited when I was recently contacted by Ausganica.

Ausganica is an Australian maker of certified organic skincare, haircare, and cosmetics. The story began in 1997 with group of aroma-therapists, organic farmers, and cosmeceutical experts who all shared the dream of healthy natural personal care.

Grown from one of the world’s largest certified organic farms, with nearly 500 acres, certified Grade A by OGA (Organic Growers Australia), and also certified by HACCP. The manufacturing is certified by both ACO (Australian Certified Organic), and the OFC (Organic Food Chain).

Organic botanical essences form the core of Ausganica, where they follow the ancient methods of hand picking fresh plants, infusing them with organic grain alcohol, allowing them to steep for 28-30 days, then extracting. This is to ensure a complete and diverse nutrient content in the actives and preserve their ultimate vitality.

In order to achieve premium quality, Ausganica insists on only organic, natural and expressly allowed ingredients according to certified organic and eco/green standards. We don’t use synthetic fragrances, synthetic minerals, synthetic colours, sulphates, parabens and other harsh ingredients.. And we never do any animal testing, or use animal-tested source ingredients, or animal-derived ingredients.

I was lucky to be able to try a couple of products, including the lavender range, which includes shampoo, conditioner, body & hand wash and body lotion. The products are exceptionally gentle, and all have gorgeous, yet subtle lavender scent. Personally, when I think of the lavender scent, it reminds me of something I’d smell at my grandma’s place, and a bit of an old person’s scent, but that is far from the case, it is so fresh, natural and lovely that I might have to revise my thoughts on the lavender scent!

The shampoo, which contains gentle botanical cleansers soap nut, and coconut water blended in a ph neutral formula to calm and soothe a sensitive scalp, really does cleanse the hair very gently, and in just one wash removing all build up from styling products.

I follow with the conditioner, which is enriched with pure active botanicals including calendula, chamomile, argan, and Australian daisy flower to lock in moisture and soothes sensitive scalps. The conditioner is easy to rinse out without feeling there is residue left behind, and it leaves my hair easy to comb. Once my hair has dried naturally it feels so light, and is so soft and smooth.

The hand and body wash is 100% plant based foaming wash and enriched with valeriana, comfrey, and Australian daisy flower to deliver the ultimate calming effect to the skin while English chamomile, blue German chamomile, and calendula oils help skin to regain its comfortness. And it cleanses the skin so gently, leaving it feeling silky soft and without drying out the skin.

Regardless, I still follow with the Body lotion which is made with calendula, chamomile, frankincense oils, and nourishing shea nut butter, coconut and argan oils. The lotion is quite runny in formula, but don’t be fooled, it still instantly provides intense moisture to the skin, absorbing immediately without leaving the skin feeling greasy or tacky. It even manages to provide sufficient moisture to those very dry ares such as my shins and elbows, with no need to reapply during the day.

All in all, I really love the fact that these products are of such high quality. They smell amazing thanks to the essential oils and best of all, they are certified organic! This gorgeous travel pack with Lavender products, is the perfect to trial several products from Ausganica, and of course, it is perfect for both travelling and for popping into the gym bag. And trialling these lovely lavender products has definitely made me want to try more from Ausganica.

If you want to know more about Ausganica or purchase some of their products, check out the Ausganica website and make sure to follow them on facebook too.

Product Review: L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Serum, Day Cream and Night Cream

I sadly cannot deny that I am at the age where anti-ageing skincare is a necessity. I have an 9 month old son – and it is no secret (you can read all about it here), that he was a long time coming… and well, I will do whatever it takes (well almost), to make sure that, when the time comes, his school friends won’t think I am his granny taking him to school every day – so when I was asked to trial the *L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Serum, Day Cream and Night Cream, I happily accepted. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
"Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream is a silky, nourishing cream for a sensorial experience and visible results and vital SPF protection. The skin regains new vitality and is perfectly hydrated. Immediately the skin is soft, supple and comfortable. Day after day, skin is regenerated, plumper, radiant and full of life."

"Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream: Night after night, cells are regenerated and your skin is left feeling stronger, denser and full of life.  The skin regains restored vitality and is nourished with hydration.  Skin is soft, enriched and comfortable."

"Age Perfect Cell Renewal Serum: From the first drop, your skin is silky, illuminated and your complexion looks fresher. Day after day, vitality is restored and skin looks regenerated, plumper and more radiant."

RRP:
L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Serum: $49.95 (30ml)

L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream: $44.95 (50ml)
L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream: $44.95 (50ml)

Available from Priceline, Supermarkets, Variety Stores and Select Pharmacies

What I Say:

The products among others contain Natecium DHC - also known as the ‘Mother Cell Protector’, which is an active ingredient extracted from the peel of bitter oranges that offers high antioxidant power against free-radicals. It also contains SMS-Recharge stimulates ATP synthesis to revitalise cells, and Vitalline (Vigna seed extract) promotes cell communication and stimulates fibroblasts to produce Collagen.

In other words, the products specifically targets and protects mother cells to ensure their productive function remains potentialised.  The ingredients in the products both protect and maximise the power of mother cells, thus heightening the body’s ability to self-renew.  With the complementary combination of the active ingredients, Age Perfect Cell Renewal assists in the generation of 4 million new cells every day making skin fresher and full of life.

This L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal is specifically targeted for specifically targeted for 50-70 year olds, and while I do have quite a few years to go until I get there, as mentioned above, I feel my skin needs anti-ageing skincare products, but sadly, having combination skin, I feel that the products are way too rich for my skin, and within a short period of time the products make my skin congested and break out. And even more so if I use both serum, day cream, and night cream. However, after using the L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal products for over a month, I am happy to say that the products have not caused my skin to break out at all.

The serum, like most serums, come in a pump bottle, which makes it easy to dispense just the amount needed. And you only need a little. Just two pumps is more than sufficient for my face and neck, although when I do remember to apply to my décolletage as well (I am so bad at remembering), then an additional pump of the serum is needed.

The serum is very light weight and absorbs into the skin within seconds leaving it feeling so silky soft and smooth.
The golden serum has a tiny amount of golden shimmer particles throughout, yet it doesn’t leave your skin looking like a disco ball, but rather it gives it a nice radiance – which unfortunately is completely lost when you follow with a day cream and foundation. The serum has a lovely fresh floral scent, which does however fade quickly after the serum has absorbed into the skin.

I follow with the L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Day Cream, which comes in a gorgeous squarish gold glass, which makes it look very luxurious, and more expensive than it really is!

The actual cream is very rich and thick, so again, I was initially concerned that it would make my combination skin feel even oilier, but within a few minutes the cream is completely absorbed into the skin, and my skin is left incredibly soft and smooth, and without feeling greasy, and it is perfect for use under makeup.

Like the Serum, the Day Cream has a gorgeous fresh floral, that does fade rather quickly – unfortunately I say, as I do rather like this scent!

I also like that the Day Cream comes with SPF15, although in the Australian climate, an even higher SPF would never go astray.

The L'Oreal Age Perfect Cell Renewal Night Cream come in same style gold jar as the day cream, and it has the same lovely fresh fragrance. The only difference is that it doesn’t contain SPF, and it has a thicker and more concentrated consistency.

It takes slightly longer to absorb into the skin, but like the day cream, it leaves the skin feeling extremely soft and smooth, and without feeling greasy. And when I wake in the morning, my skin so lovely and plumb, having clearly enjoyed the intense hydration.

And while my skin doesn’t feel greasy, and it didn’t as such make my skin break out, after using several nights in a row on top of the serum, I did feel that my skin was starting to get a little congested – so again out of fear that it would start breaking out, I started only using it every second to third night, which seems to work better on my skin.

In saying that, I did also trial these products in the high of summer with hot and humid days, which generally does make my skin greasier, and I consequently always use less heavy creams, or swap my night cream for a day cream without SPF for use at night, or sometimes use the serum on it own (even though I know the professionals say that it is a big no-no and you should always use a moisturiser on top to seal in the moisture!)

All in all I am really enjoying using these products, even in spite of the night cream being a little too heavy for my skin – but in saying that, I am also younger than the recommended age group, and secondly, being summer my skin is generally greasier, so I could only imagine that the night cream will be perfect, even for my skin, come winter when it tends to get a lot drier.

After using the product for about a month, I am really enjoying them, although it is still too soon to say whether the creams and the serum has actually helped strengthen my skin and regenerate the cells as claimed. However, I can say that I am loving how soft the products make my skin feel and look, and again, while I do not suffer from dry skin, the intense moisture has made my skin look so much better, and I feel as if small lines and wrinkles are less visible, possibly from being plumped out by the cream.

At $44.95 and $49.95, these creams and the serum, are at the pricier end of drug store brands, but in saying that I still feel that they are very reasonably prised for such high quality products, which could easily rival much more expensive high-end brands.

What I Like:
  • The gold packaging makes the product feel very luxurious
  • The gorgeous fresh scent
  • The products are concentrated and absorb immediately into the skin
  • The products don’t make my combination skin break out, except the Night Cream is a little too heavy for my skin to use during summer

What I Don’t Like:
  • The night cream is a little too intense for my combination skin for use during summer, so it would be lovely if a lighter version was made for oilier skin types
  • The cream comes with SPF15, but it would be nice if this was increased to SPF30+

Overall, these are great anti-ageing products, and given the slight results that I feel I’ve seen after a month of use, I can only imagine how impressive the results would be with continued use, and not mention, with daily use of the Night Cream as well! If you have ageing skin, I would hesitate recommending these products to you, like I would not hesitate to purchase them again, and I hope that one day a version for oilier skin types will become available, along with a matching eye cream.
*These products were kindly provided for consideration, and have been reviewed in accordance with my Disclosure Policy.

What do you think of these Age Perfect Cell Renewal products from L'Oreal? Do you use anti-ageing products? Do you always use a cream up top of your serum?

Giveaway - Palmolive Ultra Divine Blends Dishwashing Liquid – Win a Year’s Supply

I don’t know about you, but I hate doing the dishes. Lucky to have a dishwasher, and would never be without one, but still there are daily dishes to be done, including pots and pans, and things too fragile to go into the dishwasher. Truth is that I am actually not doing the dishes very often – hubby often comments that I don’t ‘do the dishes very well’, so he usually ends up doing them. Score!! But regardless, I am so sick and tired of the same dishwashing liquids which have been available for decades. While they generally smell ok, they are just that – OK – and they don’t exactly make the chore of doing the dishes very exciting.

That was until Palmolive recently launched the Ultra Divine Blends Dishwashing Liquid.

There are two new fragrances available including; Violet & Apple Blossom and Vanilla & Berries. Along with their unique aromatic experience, Palmolive Ultra Divine Blends contains a rich formula which cuts through hard to move grease with ease – leaving your dishes sparkling clean, while still being gentle on the hands. Product Review: Lust Have It – February 2014 Box

As I write this, It hasn't even been two weeks since I received the January Lust Have It Box, which was rather delayed, so it is lovely to see that Lust Have It is back on track as I received the February Box yesterday (the 25th Feb)…well as I write this… currently living in a holiday house with very limited internet access, and very limited options of taking product photos, so hence there reason for the delayed posting about this. Anyway, here are my thoughts on the Lust Have It – February  2014 Box;

What They Say:
Lust Have It boxes regularly contains products worth $60+ for only $19.95/month! Monthly box filled with 5 to 6 premium beauty samples. Delivered to your home or work each month for you to try.

RRP: Lust Have It Box (monthly) RRP: $19.95, Eco Box (quarterly) RRP: $29.95 – but if you use my unique code LIFESTYLE at the checkout on the Lush Have It website, you are eligible for $5 off your first box from Lust Have It, and at the same time you’ll also be supporting Beauty & Lifestyle Hunter, as I will get a few dollars too if someone subscribes using this code.
Available from Lust Have It

What I Say:
The Lust Have It Boxes normally come in a white box with water-paint style pattern in bright pink, purple and blue splashes of colour. This month, Lust Have It included a note saying that they are redesigning the boxes, and the new ones will be available for the April box, and consequently the February and March boxes will be in a simple postal box. And while I do – or have so far, kept the majority of the boxes for storage of other things, I really don’t mind, as in the end of the day, it is the contents that matters!

The note also said that Lust Have It is starting a new ‘Beauty Dip’ , where 1000 lucky subscribers will this month will receive a So…? Perfume gift….. and YAY, I was one of the lucky ones – thanks so much Lust Have It!!

So anyway, this is exactly what my February box contained;

So…? Kiss Me Eau De Toilette – 10ml sample

I have never tried any of the So…? Perfumes before, but this is perfume which is fruity yet spicy at the same time, smells lovely, so I will enjoy using this.

Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel Sensitive – Sample 7ml (RRP: $65/60ml)
Lust Have It already told in last month’s box that this would be included in this month’s box, so it is obviously not a surprise, and I have been looking so forward as it has been on my wish list for a while. The peel claims to exfoliate and refine skin to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and lighten hyperpigmentation. Sounds amazing to me, so I cannot wait to put it to the test.

The Cosmetic Kitchen Eyeshadow – Full Size (RRP: $22.50/2g)

This Eyeshadow is made from 100% talc free minerals and is certified cruelty free and certified vegan. I got the colour Raspberry Cooley, which in the pot is a bright fuchsia pink shade, but luckily it can blend out really well to a lovely subtle shade, so while I am not usually one to wear pink Eyeshadow, I may actually get some wear out of this one.

The Cosmetic Kitchen Blush Selection – Full Size (RRP:$22.50)

I love good brushes, and in my opinion you can never have too many, so love the inclusion of this full sized brush.  By the sound of it, the boxes will contain varying brushes from either their Eco Bamboo or Original ranges – and by the looks of it, I got one from the Eco Bamboo range as it has a timber (bamboo?) shaft. It is a powder brush, and it is so incredibly soft. And I love that it has a little sleeve to protect the hairs on the brush, wish all brushes came with that. A great addition to the box.

Vaseline Ultimate 10 Anti Ageing Body Lotion – Sample Size 25ml (RRP: $16.29/750ml)

I had heard about this body lotion, and have had it on my wish list to try, but have a handful of other body lotions that I really needed to use up first before buying a new one… but  I am loving the inclusion of this, as this way I can actually try it before buying it. But I love that it contains AHA, pro-retinol and vitamin E to help restore the skin and leave it smoother and younger looking. Just what my skin needs, so fingers crossed it works. And the small sample sized bottle is so cute too!

Clairol Professional Color Radiance Shampoo – Sample Size 50ml (RRP: $13.95/250ml)

I had my hair coloured just before Xmas, so this is just perfect for my hair, protecting the hair from fading. The sample is a generous 50ml, so there is sufficient for quite a few goes, which is great, and it is lovely to see such a generous size included, as a sachet sample with only enough product for one wash, is really not enough for you to get an idea of how the product works for you. In saying that, I do prefer to use shampoo and conditioner from the same range, so I would have loved to see the inclusion of the conditioner as well, but I am sure I can find use for this, when I for instance use a deep treatment.

Clairol Professional Expand Volume Mousse – Sample Size 50ml (RRP: $19.95/250ml)

This mousse promises to double fullness and volume in the hair at the roots lasting for 24 hours. Having long and thick hair, it is consequently also very heavy, so any volume products usually never work in my hair, and I therefore stopped using them, but I do look forward to testing it out to see if it lives up to its claims.

Hand Spa Bijoux Hand Wipe – Full Size (RRP: $1.50/1 wipe)

This is hand wipe contains among others hyaluronic acid, royal jelly and soy bean extract to provide hands with a deep nourishing and moisturising effect. This is an interesting concept, as it really acts as a hand cream, only that first have to unwrap the wipe, and then throw it away afterwards. In my opinion a little cumbersome, so before even before trying it out, my first impressions is that I’d much prefer even the smallest tube of hand cream.

Finally, the box also came with a discount card to buy one Harvest Box and get another one for free. I have heard about these custom made healthy snack boxes, and think it is a great idea that you can get them posted to you every couple of days, for instance at work, so you resist the temptation of using the vending machine for chocolate fix. In saying that, I do find the normal price of $7.99 a little expensive, and I generally buy my nuts and dried fruit from the ‘nut place’ at the shopping centre, or alternatively in the supermarket when I do my weekly grocery shopping, and thinks it works out so much more economical – but hey, the convenience of this is great, I just don’t think I’ll make use of the offer.

So there you have it, the contents in the February Lust Have It Box. And yet again, I am quite impressed with the contents, mainly due to the Juice Beauty Peel, the Cosmetic Kitchen Brush and Eye Shadow, the So…Perfume and the Vaseline Moisturiser, all of which are products that I am very keen to test out. Again, I was lucky to also get the perfume sample, and it does obviously add some value to the box, but even without it, I still feel it is well worth its money – but of course I do feel lucky to, well be one of the lucky ones to get one. And I really do like the concept of the Beauty Dip, although it you continuously miss out month after month, you may start to feel differently, but only time will tell.

I also like that Lust Have It is so good with their communication and constantly inform subscribers of what’s happening, such as with the new box designs coming up, and I do like it when they include a sneak peak into what will be in store for next month’s box, but unfortunately that wasn’t included in this month’s box, but maybe if you stalk their facebook page, they have been known to post teasers there as well.

*This product was kindly provided for consideration, and has been reviewed in accordance with my Disclosure Policy.

And of course, as always, if you’d like to see an in-depth review of any of products in the box, leave me a comment below..

What do you think of this month’s Lust Have It box? Are you a subscriber? Were you lucky and got a So…? Perfume too? Are you considering subscribing? Have you tried any of this month’s products?
