Product Review: Colour Theory Eyeshadow Palette in Verry Berry

I have to be honest and admit that I am extremely conservative with my eye makeup, and never wearing bold or bright colours – yet when I was introduced to a new brand called Colour Theory I was very intrigued. Here are my thoughts on the *Colour Theory Eyeshadow Palette in Verry Berry;

What They Say:

"This all-in-one 5-shade palette, includes everything needed to create a professional eye catching look. Contains 5 eye shadows. Build a sultry and stunning eye in 5 easy steps, or mix and match the shades to create your own, customised look. Silky eye shadow formula is easy to apply and build colour as desired."

RRP: $10 - Available exclusively at most Amcal, Amcal Max and Guardian Pharmacies

What I Say:

Colour Theory is a newly launched cosmetics range which is available exclusively through Amcal and Guardian pharmacies, and the new range aims to be about experimenting with colour, and having fun.

With 91 products in the range, the shades cater to a variety of tastes, skin tones and colourings. And with 4 simple price points, $4, $6, $8 and $10.

The 5 colour eye shadow palette claims to be able to resist creasing for all day wear, have a rich colour pay-off and be paraben free, which instantly gives it bonus points from me.

Considering the cheap price point for the 5 colour palette, the eye shadows have an amazingly high quality, with the eye shadows being quite finely milled, with a good pigmentation too.

The eye shadows have a soft formula, which makes it easy to blend them, with included sponge or brush applicators. And they have a fairly good pigmentation making it possible to build up the colour if wanted, or applied as just a wash of sheer colour.

With combination skin, I can never get my makeup to stay put without a primer, especially not during the warmer months of the year – and with a primer first, the Colour Theory eye shadows does stay nicely put until the late afternoon without any fall-out, and without fading or settling into fine lines or creases.

As the name suggest, the Verry Berry palette contains berry coloured shades, namely a while pearlescent, a pale pink, a dark purple and a mauve colour, all with shimmer, as well as a smaller dark and more matte purple shade in the centre of the palette. And while I am not a big fan of too shimmery eye shadows as I simply don’t feel it suits an ageing eye area, these eye shadows are luckily not too over the top.

Each of the colours can be worn on their own, or the palette contains everything you need to create a subtle and neutral day time look, or a berry toned smokey eye for a night out, without having to reach for any other eye shadows.

The Verry Berry Palette comes with a double ended small sponge applicator, as well as a small brush, and it comes in a simple yet modern looking see-through plastic case. It doesn’t contain a mirror, which may be a negative to some, but as I never apply eye shadow on the go anyway, it really doesn’t bother me.

What I Like:

  • The colours are perfectly matched together
  • Have a reasonable wear without fall-out, creasing or fading
  • It is free from parabens

What I don’t Like:
  • While see-through plastic case is modern, it does look and feel a little cheap

Overall, this is a good eye shadow palette with a nice colour matched combination of colours, and at $10 this is so well priced that you can afford to buy several palettes for different looks.
