XMAS GIFT IDEA: TILLEY AUSTRALIA CHRISTMAS SOY CANDLES
I absolutely love it when my home smells nice - and with two big dogs living inside, I reach for scented candles all the time. One brand that I've never heard of is Tilley Australia - yet the company was founded over 150 years ago. And I can't actually believe that they are based in the suburbs of Melbourne, it doesn’t get any more local than that! Initially the company was a soap manufacturer, but now they're also making products for the home and body, which are now sold around the world. And what better Xmas gift idea - or hostess gift, than one of the special edition Xmas candles..
There are three different candles in the limited edition Christmas Candle range..
The White candle is an Apple Spice Soy Candle, and it is scented with fresh green apples blended with aromatic cinnamon, for a lovely scent. It comes in a while glass, which has a stunning simplicity that will look beautiful in any home.
Then there's the Red Candle, which is a Sweet Berry Soy Candle that has been infused with ripe red berries for a beautiful fruity scent. It comes in a stunning red glass, that is the perfect addition to the Xmas candle and décor.
Finally, the Green Candle, which is Wild Pine Soy Candle, and it seriously smells like freshly cut pine, which is such fresh a Christmassy scent. The candle comes in a gorgeous green glass that will also be a great addition to any Xmas décor.
Common for all the candles, are that they hand poured are made from the best ingredients, including vegetable soy wax, that not only burns better, but also with less smoke for a healthier home, and not least air your breathing! The massive glass jars contain 420g of candle, and burn for over 60hours, not least thanks to the lead free cotton wicks.
The candles come packaged in beautiful white and silver boxes, ready to give away. And of course, when you've finished burning the candle, you're left with the gorgeous glasses, which can be used for lots of things, including for instance storage of your makeup brushes!
All three scents are so beautiful, and I'd be one happy camper receiving any of the three scents, although my personal favourites probably are the Red Sweet Berry and the White Apple Spice, but that's probable more down to the colours of the glasses!
Tilley Soaps Christmas Soy Candles - RRP, each: $39.95 / 420g

PRODUCT REVIEW: BE GENKI
During the 4.5 months I was at the Royal Children's Hospital with our little baby, I received a beautiful care parcel from Be genki, and having previously tried their products (see my post here!), and really enjoyed using them, it really put a smile to my face.
The beautiful people at Be genki had heard of tough time we were going through, and purposely selected some products to help ease the stress. "Genki" is the Japanese word for being happy, healthy, positive and in complete harmony within your body, and that is exactly what Be genki is set out to do with their products, with their simple philosophy that we can all enjoy holistic health and be happy inside and out by making conscious choices that reflect on your health and well being. And hence the products are made using ingredients to help not only nurture the skin, but all help alleviate any signs of day-to-day stresses for a more harmonious.
They among others sent me some tea, including Tranquil and Serene. These are loose organic teas are best made in a tea infuser with freshly boiled water (that has cooled for a few moments to avoid damaging the tea), and infusing for 5-10 minutes to ensure all the beneficial properties are infused into the water.
The Be genki Tranquil tea is made with among others Chamomile, Passionflower, Lemon Balm, Devils Claw, Valerian, Green Oats, Celery Seeds, Marjoram, Horsetail, Meadowsweet, Lavender and White Willow Bark, and is designed to help you get a tranquil and good nights sleep, also helping with insomnia, easing nervous tension, headaches and anxiety.
The Be genki Serene tea on the other hand is made with Chamomillia, Passion Flower, Alfalfa, Lemongrass, Green Oats, Echinacea, Rose Hips, Scullcap, Plaintain, Siberian Ginseng, Liquorice and Ginger, and is designed to help with mental issues emotional conflicts supporting the central nervous system, adrenal fatigue, anxiety and depression.
Common for both is that the actual tea leaves are very concentrated son I've only been using about half a teaspoon full to make a small teapot-full, which makes about mugs of tea.
It is obviously very difficult to say if these actually have the intended effect, but one thing is certain, these herbal blends taste lovely and instantly feel very soothing. And you can tell that they are made from quality ingredients, so regardless of the effects, teas definitely rate amongst some of the best teas that I've ever had, and they certainly helped make a very long and stressful hospital stay that little bit better.
Next are the Be genki Oil Blends. They come in cute little bottles and can be used in either an oil burner or in a warm bath, - or in case you haven't got a bath (or like me, rarely has the time to take a bath!), you can also put a couple of drops in the corner of your shower floor, and let the steam from your warm shower infuse with the organic essential oils. Previously I've mainly been using essential oils in a burner, but I have to say that I've been thoroughly enjoying using them in the shower too for a very relaxing spa-like experience. That said, I still use these in an oil burner too, as it helps keep my house smelling beautiful and not of my two dogs!!
Unfortunately, I was unable to use these while at the hospital, - my little baby, was extremely sick, and his age, along with his intense treatment made him very sensitive to everything, and because of infection risks, he was in a special vacuum sealed room, not allowed any visitors apart from myself and my husband, and of course the nursing staff and doctors. His little brother wasn't even allowed to visit, sadly. So I thought that I'd best not use any strong scented products, including the oils, out of fear of causing any irritations. But it was then nice to finally come home and have them waiting..
The Be genki Serene Oil Blend contains oils from organic ingredients including Palmarosa, Geranium, Patchouli, Neroli, and Rose Otto. And especially thanks to the Neroli, this blend helps ease the state of anxiety and depression, while the other oils in the blend, helps relax, calm and uplift.
The Be genki Sensual Oil Blend contains organic oils from Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Vanilla, Jasmine, and Rose Otto and is an aphrodisial blend with sensual properties, evoking confidence and releasing inhibitions.
Finally, the Be genki Tranquil Blend is made from organic oils from Lavender, Sweet Orange, Roman Chamomile, and Sandalwood, and is intended to have a calming and relaxing effect on the nerves and hence help treat insomnia.
Again it is difficult to pick a favourite as they all smell incredible and each of the blend contain some of my favourite notes, and I hence enjoy them all. That said, I do love the Serene blend, but that's probably due to the neroli and patchouli notes, as well as the Tranquil blend, probably due to the sweet orange (I can never resist products containing citrus fruits!)
Finally, the Be genki Tranquil Candle is a large glass, and the soy and coconut wax candle burns for more then 40 hours, filling your home with the most gorgeous scent from the organic lavender and sweet orange, for a calming and sleep-inducing scent, which is absolutely beautiful, and lasts for hours and hours, even after the candle has been blown out.
All in all I am really enjoying all of these Be genki products, as you can tell they've been made with the best of ingredients, and thought has been put into them as well. Even my husband has been commenting on how nice they smell, something he rarely will say, unless he really means it! The products come in gorgeous bottles and jars with simplistic, yet stunning labels, and again, I love that care has been taken not to use superfluous plastic or packaging, and the fact that the products are Australian owned and made is just the icing on the cake!

PRODUCT REVIEW: VOLUSPA CREME DE PECHE
I love burning
scented candles in my home, as it not only create a lovely atmosphere, but the
scent that spreads throughout the house, also helps mask the smell of our dogs
and what we had for dinner!!! Today I’d like to share with you my thoughts on
the Crème De Peche candle from Voluspa;
What They Say:
Uniquely, each Voluspa candle is triple scented using a natural coconut and apricot wax blend that burns cleanly and evenly every time. The candle is made with 100% cotton wigs, and without phthalates, parabens, and sulfates. Packaged in a custom embossed glass with a signature Japonica metallic box. Each creation has been lovingly hand poured in the USA using a natural coconut and apricot wax formulation. Burn time is 50hrs.

RRP: $34.95 (17g) – Available from Saison
What I Say:
I love the fact that the candles from Voluspa are hand
poured using natural coconut and apricot wax, a have a cotton wig, which also
means that they burn very well, - in fact for over 50 hours, and that is
without the dreaded smoke that discolours your walls and ceiling! I also love
that they are made without the chemical nasties including phthalates, parabens
or sulphates, and of course not tested on animals either.
The actual candle has one wick, will even give your room a
nice scent unlit, but as soon as you start to burn it, the scent spreads
quickly throughout your house, and lasts for a while even after the candle has
been blown out.
The Crème De Peche candle is scented with Asian White Peach,
Nectarine and crushed Vanilla Bean, and has a beautiful fresh fruity scent that
is neither too strong or overwhelming or too sweet either.
The candle comes in a very attractive floral embossed glass
that looks so beautiful on display, but will be just as perfect to reuse for
flowers or knick-knacks once the candle is gone, or how about using it for your
makeup brushes! It also comes in a stunning black and peach coloured box that
has been embossed too with a gorgeous floral design.
Overall this is a beautiful candle, and I can definitely see
myself purchasing more candles in the future, as well as they’re a perfect gift
idea too!
Do you burn scented candles in your home? Which scent is
your favourite? Tried any of the candles from Voluspa?

PRODUCT REVIEW: URBAN RITUELLE ROMANCE SOY CANDLE
Today I’d like to share with you a newly launched limited edition Romance Soy Candle from Urban Rituelle*;
What They Say:
Set hearts aflutter with this completely alluring, premium Scented Soy Candle. Carefully chosen for their romantic charms, the seductive scents of Jasmine, sensuous musk & mysterious amber will serenade you with scented warmth & light. Burn time up to 80 hours.
RRP: $39.95 (400gm) – Available from selected home and lifestyle stores, and Urban Rituelle Online
What I Say:
If you are a regular reader you would have seen me declare my love to Urban Rituelle by now. I am for instance convinced that an Urban Rituelle diffuser helped sell our house last year!
I really love the fact that Urban Rituelle is an Australian brand and that the products are Australian made too.
Generally I just love burning scented candles. We have two large dogs that mainly live inside, and while they are washed frequently, needless to say that you probably can detect a bit of a dog smell in our house. I love our beautiful dogs, but I don’t like our house smelling of dogs, so consequently I burn scented candles to mask their smell. Plus not to mention the smell of what we had for dinner last night!!
The Urban Rituelle Romance Soy Candle is a limited edition candle that as the name suggests is all about awakening the romantic senses. The candle is the perfect candle to burn on Valentine’s Day, containing ingredients that have specifically chosen. It among others contain jasmine, musk and amber, which combined gives a warm slightly spicy sensuous and seductive scent that will continue to linger throughout the house for long after you’ve blown the candle out. In fact, you don’t even have to burn it to enjoy its beautiful scent.
I have to be honest and admit that I am not usually one for the smell of musk and amber, and would not normally pick a candle like this myself. But I am so surprised at how lovely the scent of the Romance Candle is. I think maybe it is because of the addition of the jasmine that it still has a fresh scent and isn’t too heavy or overwhelming that I’ve fallen for it too!
My husband, as most males, don’t usually like too floral or sweet smelling home fragrances, but as soon as he smelt the Romance Candle, he commented that it was really lovely, and very masculine too – which makes for a refreshing change. He is not normally the one to remind me to burn the candle at night, but since having this candle, he has reminded me several times. I suspect it is his subtle way of saying the really likes it!!
The candle has two wigs and burns is claimed to burn for more than 80hours – more than 3 days non-stop burning…. Not that you would ever burn a candle without supervision!
The candle comes in a large sturdy black glass bottle with a stunning silver, to seal in the candle and its scent – and it simply looks so stylish and modern, and a perfect match for my home! It also comes in a gorgeous black box with silver edges and writing, and again, it is so stylish that you don’t even have to wrap it if you intend to use it as a gift. I would certainly be very pleased to receive one – I just wish it wasn’t a limited edition candle, as I’ve really fallen in love with it!!

PRODUCT REVIEW: CIRCA HOME 1979 OCEANIQUE SCENTED SOY CANDLE
Having two dogs that live inside, I love burning scented candles. I love my dogs to bits, but I hate it when my house smell of dogs, so to mask any scent of my dogs, and last night’s dinner, scented candles often come to the rescue. Here I share my thoughts on the Circa Home 1979 Oceanique Scented Soy Candle*, that also serves as the perfect Xmas gift idea;
What They Say:
1979 Oceanique transports the freshness of the ocean with an uplifting blend of Orange Blossom and Bergamot. Inspired by Dancing to party anthem YMCA. Playing trivial pursuit on the back verandah. Flaunting your new baggy designer jeans. Circa Home Oceanique takes you back to 1979, when jumpsuits were cool and Farrah Fawcett was hot. How will you remember it?
RRP: $29.95 (260g) – Available from David Jones, Bed Bath N’Table, and selected home and lifestyle stores, and Circa Home Online
What I Say:
I have never actually tried any of the Circa Home scented candles before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. However, I was instantly pleasantly surprised when I realised that the candle is made in Australia using the natural soy wax and high quality fragrant oils, and lead free cotton wicks. But what’s more is that the container is made using recycled glass, while the carton, the packaging and the glass are all 100% recyclable.
Now onto the actual scent of the candle. As soon as I lifted the timber lid, I could smell the amazing clean and fresh fragrance that for some reason reminds me so much of one of my husband’s aftershaves – although I cannot for the life of me work out which one as he has quite a collection of aftershaves!
The scent reminds me a little of a beach holiday with it’s aquatic notes and refreshing and uplifting scent. Consequently I find that it is more suitable for burning in the spring and summer months, but of course, there in no one stopping you from burning it during the winter months if you need to bring back the memories of the summer holiday. And what I also like about the scent is that it is neither too sweet or too spicy, or too floral for that matter, rather it is a great unisex scent that would appeal to both men and women. My husband even commented that it smells nice, which doesn’t happen often with scented candles, usually I just get the ‘that’s ok’ – so to get a ‘nice’ is a seal of approval from him!
The candle comes in a heavy white frosted glass and it has a timber lid that seals in the scent, and you only need to burn the two-wick candle for a few minutes before the beautiful scent spreads though the whole house. And once you finished burning the candle, you can clean up the glass and use it as a stylish holder for tea candles. How brilliant! And at just $29.95, it is a bargain find too for such a high quality candle.
This was my first ever scented candle from Circa Home, but I can tell you, it won’t be the last! I highly recommend it – it is the perfect Xmas gift idea or hostess gift, or of course gift to yourself if you need to treat yourself!

The Be genki Vital range of products has been designed to be used whenever you would like a little “pick me up.” Perfect for use first thing in the morning or after work to give you a little “boost” prior to the evening’s activities. It is utilising the properties of pure organic essential oils: Peppermint, Lemon Myrtle, Eucalyptus and Rosemary.
It is as if this range has been designed with me in mind!!! I am currently feeling tired and drained, and constantly in need of a pick me up, as having a teething toddler that wakes several times during the night, just wears you down after a while – so I was naturally excited to put the Vital range to the test.
The Be Vital Face Mist does say that it is perfect for use during hot summer days, but I have found it equally perfect for using during winter. My skin is not normally sensitive, but a walk with the pram and the dogs in the chilly Melbourne winter weather is enough to leave my cheeks red hot flushed and wind burnt. Luckily a quick spray with the face mist, and my skin is instantly feeling soothed and refreshed and any lost moisture replenished. It has the most gorgeous gentle refreshing scent that lingers around too, thanks to containing Peppermint infused water, organic Peppermint, oil, organic Lemon Myrtle oil, organic Rosemary oil and organic Eucalyptus oil.
It is also recommended for use during long flights, and I do plan to take it with me on my next long-haul flight to Europe, and I love that it size-wise applies to airline restrictions, and although love the glass bottle, for travelling purposes I would have preferred if it had come in a plastic bottle.
The scent of the essential oils (lemon myrtle, peppermint, eucalyptus and rosemary) will be helpful for your little one who has a cold, as they are great for respiratory issues, and have anti-viral properties. So perhaps a few drops of the 100% Pure and Organic Vital Oil Blend with water in an oil burner in the room that you’re all in might be helpful. (Safe and well-away from curious little baby hands though.)
The Be Vital Body Oil is a lightweight, moisture-intensive body oil designed to soften your skin and invigorate your senses. And in spite of being to light and instantly absorbing into the skin without leaving it feeling greasy, you can instantly feel it intensely nourishing your skin, leaving it soft and deeply moisturised.
The Body Oil contains organic cold-pressed Sunflower oil, organic cold-pressed virgin Hemp seed oil, organic cold-pressed virgin Avocado oil, organic cold-pressed virgin Rosehip oil, organic Peppermint oil, organic Lemon Myrtle oil, organic Rosemary oil, organic Eucalyptus oil. And it smells absolutely divine. The face mist smells lovely, but the body oil far exceeds it. Maybe because I cannot resist a zesty lemon scent, and this one is just that. Absolutely incredible, so I love that this scent lingers on my skin for hours.
The Body Oil is very concentrated so you don’t need to use a lot. Like the face mist, it comes in a gorgeous glass bottle with a pump.
The Be Vital Oil Blend is a highly concentrated blend of pure organic essential oils and it has been designed to be used in an oil burner or in the bath. I rarely take baths, sadly just never seem to have the time to do it, but I am a frequent user of our oil burner. We have two Labradors living inside the house, so a nice scented oil in the oil burner stops the house smelling too ‘doggy’!
As with the other Be genki products, the Oil Blend is extremely concentrated, so it just takes half a dozen drops in the oil burner, and within minutes that gorgeous uplifting and refreshingly clean scent is spreading through the whole house – instantly hiding any smell of dogs and last night’s dinner too. It contains Peppermint oil, organic Lemon Myrtle oil, organic Rosemary oil, and organic Eucalyptus oil.
If I am not burning my oil burner, I am always burning a scented candle at night. And the Be Vital Candle, like the Oil Blend, smells absolutely amazing. The candle is made from soy wax, so it is kind to your health as it doesn’t burn with a grey smoke that stains your walls – and even worse, the inside of your lungs.
And it has added pure organic essential oils of organic Peppermint oil, organic Lemon Myrtle oil, organic Rosemary oil, and organic Eucalyptus oil and it instantaneously fills your home with the most refreshing and uplifting citrus scent. And even when you’ve blown out the candle, this scent keeps lingering in the air for hours. Absolutely amazing, and it burns for a massive 40 hours you can continue to enjoy it for weeks.
I have to be honest and admit that I am generally a coffee drinker. However, the last few months I’ve realised that I’ve been drinking way too much of it, so I’ve put myself on a kind of ‘coffee diet’ if you like, only allowing myself one cup of coffee a day, and I feel so much better for it. But when its winter and cold, I still like to enjoy a hot cup of tea, and this Be Vital Herbal Tea is so beautiful. It is made by Abundance Herbs for Be genki. It contains Green Tea, Echinacea, Lemon Grass, Peppermint, Rosehips, Lemon Myrtle, Liquorice Root, Astragalus, Withania and Ginger and is intended to create an awakening alive feeling, easing adrenal exhaustion, and promoting a feeling of wellbeing.
And as my preferred tea is either peppermint, which is shown to help relieve symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), and while I don’t have IBS, but rather a bowel illness, Colitis Ulcerosa, I find that it helpful too. Or I prefer to sip on lemon tea, as it is so refreshing and uplifting – so this tea is the perfect combination of both, containing both peppermint and lemon grass and lemon myrtle, and it is simply so stunning that I plan on not only replacing it but also trying out the other varieties in the range. You may think that it is a small pack of tea, but it is of such high quality hat you only need a small teaspoon of the tea leaves in your tea pot. You then infuse it for 5-10 minutes before you drink, being careful, as with all tea and coffee not to use water that is still boiling as it can potential damage beneficial properties of the tea.
Overall, I really love these Vital products from Be genki, and they are each so unique that it is impossible for me to pick a favourite, as there is a place for each and every one of them in my life – and if it was up to me, I’d also love to see the range included to include other products such as hand creams, body butters and maybe some incense sticks too!
I am not sure if they give me a much needed pick-me up, but I really enjoy how the products feel on my skin, and how stunning they smell. I love the simple, yet stunning packaging with the stunning peachy-coral labels, but what I love even more, is that I actually understand all the ingredients that are being used in the products. There are simply none of those difficult to pronounce potentially harmful chemical ingredients in sight on the ingredients list. LOVE!

PRODUCT REVIEW: URBAN RITUELLE WEEKENDER COUNTRY GARDEN SOY CANDLE
We recently sold
the house we built almost 6 years ago, and have just moved into a temporary
house, while we are waiting for our new house to be built. While our ‘old’
house, wasn’t exactly new anymore, it was certainly a lot newer. Plus we were
the only ones to have lived in the house so of course all the smells in the
house, were our smells. The new house is a different story. It is an older
house so who knows how many people have lived here over the years. And most
recently, the occupants also had a dog. We have dogs too, two Labradors, and
although they live inside, they are washed frequently, and we’ve always been
told that our house didn’t smell of dog. But in spite of countless of hours of
cleaning, we can continue to smell their down and smells, in particular each
time we come home, ‘that’ smell is there. So to mask it and make the house
smell nicer I have been burning fragrant candles more or less non-stop. Here
are my thoughts on the *Urban Rituelle Weekender Country Garden Soy Candle;
What They Say:
"Be swept away to your favourite weekend escape with this
long lasting, premium Scented Soy Candle. Featuring fragrance blends inspired
by our most cherished Australian holiday destinations, the warmth & light
will adorn our home in scented serenity. Handcrafted in Australia using pure,
natural wax, this luxurious candle promises to transform your space into the
perfect setting for a holiday at home."
"The Country Garden scent is a gourmand blend featuring the
soothing scents of warm, simmering pear drizzled with sweet vanilla. Utterly
enticing, this mouth-watering scent will have you reminiscing of lazy days in
cosy cafes & the fragrant gardens of your favourite sleepy village."
RRP: $39.95 (400gm) – Available from selected home and lifestyle stores, and Urban Rituelle Online
What I Say:
I have previously tried the Beachcomber Soothing Body Balm
in Island Citrus from Urban Rituelle, which is so gorgeous, and not to mention
the diffuser reeds, which I am convinced helped sell our house, so I was
looking forward to also putting the Urban Rituelle Soy Candle to the test.
As I have mentioned in my previous reviews, I love the fact that Urban Rituelle is an
Australian brand and that the products are Australian made too.
Another thing I
love is how beautifully presented the Urban Rituelle products always are. The Weekender
Country Garden Soy Candle comes in a beautiful green gift box, making it
perfect as a gift, with no need for wrapping it.
The actual soy candle comes in a large sturdy white glass
bottle with a simple timber lid, to seal in the candle and its scent.
And as soon as you take off the timber lid, you can smell
the gorgeous scent. Containing pear and sweet vanilla, you could be fooled into
thinking that it is a sweet smelling scent, but that is far from the case. It
is a lovely fresh and fruity scent, which is so exquisite and so uplifting and
refreshing.
The actual candle has two wigs and burns is claimed to burn
for more than 80hours – that’s more than 3 days non-stop burning…. Not that you
would ever burn a candle without supervision! And while the candle, even
without burning smells nice, and fills the room with the gorgeous scent – but
hen when you start burning it, the scent releases even more, not only filling
the room, but all adjoining rooms as well, a fragrance that lasts well beyond
the candle has been blown out.
What I Like:
- Australian brand with Australian made products
- Simple yet stylish bottle
- Fresh and refreshing scent
- Strong and long lasting scent of high quality and which doesn’t smell chemical or artificial
- Well priced considering the high quality and how long it lasts
What I Don’t Like:
- Nothing - I love everything about this candle, and find it reasonably priced for a candle of such high quality.
Overall I am so in love with this fresh and natural citrus
scent that flows through my house, and while I love burning scented candles, I do
like that this permanently scents my home without having to constantly remember
to blow out the candles when I leave the house. I will enjoy this over the
coming months, and when it nears an end, I will definitely repurchase.

I will do whatever I can to make sure it will be an exceptional time, and that will include bringing the festive season into our house by burning a Shine So Bright Soy Wax Candle from the Urban Rituelle, which is a soy wax candle highly fragrant with scents of fresh fig and sun-ripened plum.
