PRODUCT REVIEW: MARC JACOBS SPLASH COLLECTION 2016

Every few years Marc Jacobs releases a limited edition Splash collection, and this year a new range has just been launched with the theme to recapture the essence of summer. I purchased Kumquat a few years ago, which was part of an earlier Splash collection, unaware that it was a limited edition range, and have been loving it so much that I have been forever regretting not getting a few of the other varieties as well at the time. So I was very excited with I heard of the new Splash Collection 2016 being launched.

The Marc Jacobs Splash Collection 2016 includes four light and fresh scents, each presented in a sleek heavy duty glass bottle, that oozes style. 

This time, the Marc Jacobs Splash Collection 2016 includes;  

• Rain
• Cucumber
• Pear
• Cotton

I've tried Pear and Cucumber, and absolutely love both, and find it difficult to pick a favourite!   

 

The Marc Jacobs Cucumber contains;   

• Top Notes; Watery Cucumber, Lotus Leaf, Crisp Bamboo 
• Heart Notes: Lily of the Valley, Linden Blossom, Dutch Freesia
• Base Notes: Frosted Musk, Blonde Woods

The scent is such a fresh, crisp and refreshing green scent, and it is the epitome of summer. It is so refreshing and calming, and absolutely stunning, and reminds me of long summer days with lots of fresh food, including a good steak on the BBQ served with a fresh salad straight from the garden. It comes in a pastel green box, and the actual fragrance also has a light green tint to reflect an inviting summer garden.

 

 

The Marc Jacobs Pear contains;  

• Top Notes: Pear, Bergamot, Lemon Peel 
• Heart Notes: Gin Accord, Juniper, Freesia
• Base Notes: Teakwood, Musk, Soft Amber

  

The Marc Jacobs Pear is a sweet summer scent that captures the essence of delicious and juicy fresh ripe fruit. It is such a light and refreshing and sweet scent, yet without being too sweet or sickening, and I absolutely adore this one. Again, it is the perfect spring and summer scent, but now in the midst of winter here in Australia, I will continue to use it, to reminiscence over long gone warm and sunny summer days, and bring a light touch to the heaviness of my winter wardrobe. The Pear fragrance comes in a warm yellow box and the actual fragrance itself has a warm golden tint to convey the juiciness of ripe pear.

 

Overall, as I expected, I am really enjoying using these two new fragrances, - I am usually preferring light and fresh fragrances, so these are right up my alley. I've been using them extensively the last few weeks, and I know I will continue to reach for them again and again - and knowing that it is a limited edition range, I'm very keen on getting my hands on Rain and Cotton as well to complete this year's collection..

PRODUCT REVIEW: MARC JACOBS DECADENCE

About 10 or so years ago Marc Jacobs launched Daisy, and it quickly be came one of my favourite scents. Not long after Lola was introduced as a completely different scent. Since then, Marc Jacobs have launched countless fragrances, but most, if not all of these have all been different takes of either Daisy or Lola, fresher, fruitier, you name it. Until now that Marc Jacobs is finally bringing out a brand new scent, Decadence. 

And as soon as you the bottle you'd have to agree that it is decadent, as the actual bottle as been inspired by one of Marc Jacobs hand bags.

The emerald green square bottle comes with a cap with an exotic python design, and has heavy-duty gold chain and a long black silky tassel. It basically looks like a luxurious feminine handbag. Too pretty to put away in its box (which by the way is also incredible with its dark green velvety feel and gold embossed logo) - but so far I've resisted temptation and stored it away from the clumsy fingers of our 2.5 year old, also knowing it will keep much better if it is stored in a dark cool place as opposed to our warm sunny ensuite! 

Now on to the actual fragrance. The Marc Jacobs Decadence contains among others: 

• Top Notes: Italian Plum, Saffron and Iris
• Heart Notes: Bulgarian Rose, Lush Orris and Jasmine Sambac
• Base Notes: Liquid Amber, Vetiver, Papyrus Wood

This Decadence fragrance is very fresh and fruity when you first apply it, but dries down to a more woody and powdery scent. Thanks, I believe, to the plum and the saffron, it is a heavier scent (than ie. Marc Jacobs Daisy), and as I generally prefer fresher scents, Daisy does remain a favourite, especially for daytime wear.

That said, this is an incredibly beautiful scent. It is so feminine and luxurious scent, that is rich, dark and mature, and hence perfect for that special night out, as well as I feel that it is more suitable for use during winter than during the hot summer. Being a bit heavier, I consequently also feel that it is not as suitable for young girls as say Daisy that is lighter and fruitier.

The composition of the scent, however also means that it has got an incredible longevity, and in fact, if I spray it on my neck in the morning, my husband has told me he can still smell it the next morning, after a full day and a full nights wear. Now that's incredible.

  

Overall, I am pleased to have added Decadence to my collection and I will continue to enjoy both admiring the bottle and wearing the scent for years to come. As anything from Marc Jacobs, everything from the scent to the bottle is truly unique. If you'd like to stand out from the rest, then it's definitely worth checking out.

PRODUCT REVIEW: MARC JACOBS DAISY DREAM



I am a huge fan of Marc Jacobs and have quite a few of his fragrances in my collection including Lola, Honey, Kumquats and of course Daisy. And while I love them all, Daisy remains my favourite, so when a new Daisy was released, I was very excited. Here are my thoughts on the Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Eau de Toilette*;

What They Say:

Light and airy, Daisy Dream is both floral and fruity. The fragrance captivates with delectable top notes of blackberry, fresh grapefruit and succulent pear. The heart imparts a rich, feminine jasmine, notes of lychee and blue wisteria. A dreamy drydown of white woods, musk and coconut water.

What I Say:

As soon as I saw the bottle of the Daisy Dream, I was in love. I love the previous bottles of all Marc Jacobs perfumes, as they are all stunning, but I have to say that I feel that Marc has outdone himself with Daisy Dream. The bottle will look so stunning in any bathroom or on any dresser. It may also be something to do with my love of Daisies. I have a fairly large jewellery collection, and my all-time favourite piece is a large Georg Jensen Brooch that I use as a necklace. It was a present from my parents many years ago, so it is very close to my heart, and of course, being from Georg Jensen makes me send fond memories of my home country Denmark too.

The Daisy Dream is made up from:

• Top Notes: Blackberry, Grapefruit, Pear
• Heart Notes: Jasmine, Lychee, Blue Wisteria
• Base Notes: White Woods, Musk, Coconut Water

As soon as I saw the notes in the fragrance I was a little worried. I really wanted to love this new fragrance, but then I read that it contains coconut water. I am not very fond of the smell of coconut, actually, in most cases I really dislike it, so a coconut scented fragrance would really put me right off. But luckily you would never ever know it contains coconut water. Phew!

The fragrance is as mentioned both floral and fruity at the same time, and I like the zesty freshness that no doubt comes grapefruit (I love citrus scented products), while the pear and lychee gives it a lovely sweetness, but luckily without it being too sickly sweet. It is simply light and fresh, and the perfect fragrance for spring and summer. It is like a summer version of the original Daisy fragrance.


Compared to for instance Lola and the original Daisy, unfortunately the lasting power of Daisy Dream is not as good, lasting about 4-5 hours before you need to respray.

If I had to pick, the original Daisy will remain my favourite , however I really the clean, fresh and fruitiness of Daisy Dream, so it is sure to become one of my favourites fragrances this summer. There are times when it is nice and more appropriate to wear a lighter scent, and then Daisy Dream is absolutely perfect. And I think it is a fantastic addition to the Daisy family, and it is perfect for anyone who prefers light and perfumes, as well as a younger audience.

Product Review: Marc Jacobs Honey Eau de Parfum

A few weeks ago the team behind Marc Jacobs send out a challenge to celebrate the launch of the new Marc Jacobs Honey Eau de Parfums - bring your Marc Jacobs Honey perfume with you everywhere you go, and take photos of the Honey bottle in a place that is sweetest to you, and upload them to Instagram with the #MJHoneySpots. And at the same time be in the running to win one of 2 Marc Jacobs XL Single Handbags valued at over $1000 each… WOW.

Unfortunately I didn’t win the Marc Jacobs Handbag, which would just have been a dream, - it is not exactly in the budget of a stay-at-home-mum, but the winning entries were pretty amazing, so congrats to the lucky and talented girls!! – and I still, I feel special for receiving a bottle of HONEY for participating in this challenge, so thanks so much!!

With a newborn – and a dog that has just had surgery to remove cancer, I have pretty much been confined to staying at home, to ensure that my dog didn’t start attacking her leg to get rid of the stitches, so this is the entry that I came up with…

 

Anyway here are my thoughts on the Marc Jacobs Honey Eau de Parfum;

What They Say:

"The new buzz about town from Marc Jacobs! A sunny, delicious floral fragrance with a juicy pear top, feminine orange blossom heart, and a warm honey base."

What I Say:

I love Marc Jacobs perfumes, and am so happy to add this to my collection which already consists of Daisy, Lola and Kumquats, which I all love dearly.

The first thing that you notice about Honey, is the stunningly cute bottle, how gorgeous is that!! 

 

The notes in Honey are:
Pear, Juicy Mandarin, Orange Blossom, Peach Nectar, Apricot, Honeysuckle, Honey, Golden Vanilla, Smooth Woods.

Given the name ‘Honey’ I had anticipated that the perfume would smell like honey, sweet and warm, so I was a little surprised to find that it didn’t, but rather that it is a light summery floral scent with a hint of citrus from the mandarin notes, which I really like as fresh citrusy scents are my absolute favourites.

So in spite of the perfume containing honey and also vanilla, I really cannot identify those notes in the perfume, which personally I don’t mind, as I’m not the biggest fan of overly sweet scents. Also I fail to notice the smell of ‘smooth woods’ which again, I don’t mind, as woody fragrances are not on the top of my list either!

Compared to the other Marc Jacobs perfumes that I have, the Honey perfume doesn’t last quite as long, - especially not as long as Lola, which is a far stronger scent. But still, I don’t feel the need to re-spray during the day, and even after wearing it for a full day, at night my hubby has commented that I smell nice, so clearly it is still there. And while I do like the stronger Lola for special occasions and nights out, I like that Honey is a light and not too overpowering for every day daytime wear, especially as we head towards spring.

The Marc Jacobs not only looks fantastic on my dresser, it is also a fantastic addition to my perfume collection. I love it, and if you like fresh and floral scents, then I’m sure you’ll love it too!

Industry News: Marc Jacobs Launching new perfume, Honey

I don’t know about you, but I’m absolutely in love with Marc Jacobs perfumes. I have a couple including Daisy, Lola and Kumquat.

And now Marc Jacobs is launching a new perfume, Honey. The Honey bottle is similar in style to Dot, which was launched in 2012.

Honey is said to be a vibrant, bold and spontaneous enchanting floral fragrance. It has top notes of pear, fruity punch and juicy mandarin; a heart of orange blossom, peach nectar and honeysuckle, while the base has honey, golden vanilla and smooth woods.

Marc Jacobs Honey will launch in US in July/August 2013, and insider information confirms that the perfume will be launching here in Australia later in the year!

My guess is that we will be seeing this new perfume on the shelves here in Australia as we head towards spring, but only time will tell – I will be sure to give you an update as soon as I have one!!


And I know I want it already. I absolutely love anything with the slightest bit of citrus scent, so the inclusion of juicy mandarin has already convinced me!

I have a reasonable perfume collection, but one of my favourites for quite some time now has been the Daisy perfume from Marc Jacobs, closely followed by Lola, also by Marc Jacobs. I just love fresh, floral and fruity fragrances, so I was excited when I heard that Marc Jacobs is now launching a limited edition collection of fresh new fragrances.

A fresh twist on Marc Jacobs feminine floral fragrances, Daisy Sunshine, Daisy Eau So Fresh Sunshine, and Oh, Lola! Sunsheer are limited edition fragrances inspired by sun-kissed pleasures, juicy and upbeat. Each with a colourful new fragrance, the collection glows with energy and vibrant bursts of colour for an instant boost of happiness.

Awash in a rainbow of spirited colours, Marc Jacobs Sunshine edition make a radiant design statement.

My Favourite Summer Perfumes

I love perfumes, and I have more than I dare to count. I usually travel to Europe every year, and has for the past decade, and on each trip, I buy a new perfume, well at least one. Add to that the traditional perfume for my birthday and Christmas, plus the odd one here and there during the year too, and suddenly you have quite a collection.

But I still have my favourites. The ones with sentimental value that I’ve been given for special occasions, or the ones I have worn for special occasions such as my wedding. And then there are all the other favourites; the ones that I mostly wear during winter, as they are bit heavier and spicier, and the ones I prefer during summer, as they are light and fresh.

Here are my favourite summer perfumes;


Dolce & Gabbana - L`Imperatrice 3

Was launched in 2009 as a part of the D&G Anthology.

There are seven fragrances in the collection, and in the advertising campaigns celebrities are shown naked. L`Imperatrice 3 is advertised by Naomi Campbell, and the perfume features aromas of watermelon, kiwi, pink cyclamen and musk, and is such a beautiful and refreshing, yet long lasting fruity scent.

Tommy Hilfiger – Tommy Girl
I have used this perfume for over a decade now, and I have repurchased it several times too. Hubby loves it too, as it was what I used to wear all the time when we first met.

Tommy Girl Perfume by Tommy Hilfiger was launched in 1996. It is a feminine and refreshing flowery fragrance perfect for daytime wear.

Fragrance Notes Include Camellia Flower, Tangerine, Apple Blossom, Cherokee Rose, Honeysuckle, Butterfly Violet And Wild Heather.

Kenzo - L’Eau par Kenzo

L'Eau Par Kenzo was launched in the year 2000, and was given to me that year for Christmas by my parents. It is a refreshing, floral, marine fragrance. The fragrance top notes include bergamot, jasmine and freesia, while the middle notes are: citrus, ylang-ylang and patchouli and the base of the fragrance is: cedar, sandalwood and oakmoss.

It is so light and fresh, yet it lasts all day, it is just perfect for daytime wear.

Clinique – Happy

Happy was launched in 1997, and its fragrance notes include with a hint of citrus, ruby red grapefruit, boysenberry bush flower, and Hawaiian wedding flower. It is such a light and fresh floral scent, which is so uplifting. It really does make you happy! I always get so many comments when I wear it.

I first bought it in September 2001 on my way to Fiji on Holidays. A few days later 9/11 happened, and needless to say that it did have an effect on our holiday, but even so, Happy has remained a favourite ever since.

Elizabeth Arden – Pretty

Pretty was launched in 2009, and I instantly liked it after smelling it in a department store. A few days later, Hubby surprised me with a gift box containing the perfume and a body lotion. Just out of the blue, what a sweetie he is!

Italian mandarin and orange blossom mixed with peach juices. A heart is floral and gentle, created of petalia, starry jasmine, pink lily and peony, while base is soft and pleasant, composed of musk, Jacaranda wood and creamy amber.

Marc Jacobs – Kumquat

This limited edition perfume is a part Marc Jacobs’ Splash fragrance collection, and was launched for the summer of 2012. I purchased it duty free in September on my way to Europe, and I have to admit, that I got it because I couldn’t find the perfume I really had decided to get. But I’m so happy that I got it anyway.

Containing of tangerine, bergamot and orange, dried kumquat, tiger orchid and jasmine, it is such a refreshing, light, citrusy and floral scent scent.

Issey Miyake – A Scent

L'eau d'Issey Eau de Parfum version of the original fragrance from 1992 is one of my signature scents, that I have been using since it was launched. But it is a little heavy for daytime summer wear, I quickly fell for A Scent by Issey when it was launched in 2009. 

This is a minimalistic, simple and clear fragrance inspired by Japanese mountains, and contains fragrance notes from jasmine, hyacinth and cedar, French verbena and lemon, which make this fragrance more feminine light and fresh.
