PRODUCT REVIEW: WHITE GLO DEEP STAIN REMOVER ACTIVATED CHARCOAL WHITENING TOOTHPASTE

I love coffee, and I admit that I drink way too much of it. And I guess it is sadly starting to show on the pearly whites, that perhaps are not so white anymore. So when the newest addition to the White Glo range, the new Deep Stain Remover Activated Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste landed on my doorstep, I could wait to start trialling it.

This toothpaste is an advanced extra strength whitening toothpaste that has been made with highly absorbent activated charcoal, which deoxifies to helps whiten enamel by penetrating and drawing out stubborn stains, discolouration, as well as fighting germs, and bad breath odour.

Having slightly sensitive teeth, this did concern me a little, however the toothpaste has a very low abrasive formula that so it is safe for the enamel and gentle too as it has been developed for daily use.

The actual toothpaste is a clear grey shade, and despite what you might thing, it still has a pleasant fresh minty taste, and it froths up white like any other toothpaste.

The toothpaste also comes with a special black and orange White Glo X-Action toothbrush, which has bristles infused with charcoal and the criss-cross action bristles on the brush has been designed to work more effectively with the micro particles in the toothpaste for a better result. The pack also comes with a small bonus pack of little brushes designed to be used between the gap of the teeth.

I admit to generally preferring an electric toothbrush, but was still excited about using the 'manual' brush along with the toothpaste. I didn't really know what to expect from this budget-friendly toothpaste, but having slightly yellow teeth to start with, I was hoping for an improvement. Yes, my teeth did feel very clean and smooth after each use, but usually using a high quality powerful electrical toothbrush I am used to that feeling. However, after just a uses I started noticing my teeth seemed less yellow and so much brighter, and so far I am also pleased to say that the toothpaste hasn’t made my teeth any more sensitive. So overall I am actually enjoying this toothpaste. I admit to missing my electric toothbrush, so I will likely go back using it along with the toothpaste, and regardless hopeful that continued use with continue to keep my teeth stain-free and whiter.

PRODUCT REVIEW: WHITE GLO DIAMOND SERIES

It seems these days everyone is whitening their teeth. In my opinion most Hollywood stars have gone way overboard and whitened their teeth too much, - but that's not to say that the rest of us should live with coffee (and red wine) stained teeth. Getting it done at the dentist can be a costly affair, but thankfully White Glo has a range of products that can help too, at a fraction of the price. So today I'd like to talk about some new Teeth Whitening products from White Glo, the Diamond White Series. 

The White Glo Diamond Series Power Brush Toothpaste is, I believe, the first of its kind! And about time, if you ask me. I've been using electric toothbrushes for decades now, so about time someone brought a tooth paste specifically to use with them. But what is the difference!! Well, the Power Brush Toothpaste takes advantage of the high speed oscillating motion, and as most electric toothbrush heads are smaller, the formulation of this particular toothpaste is extra-concentrated so you need to use a smaller amount to achieve the same level of oral care. In addition, it contains a low abrasive Micro-Wax that helps safely polish the teeth free from discolourations to make them whiter, brighter and shinier.

Next up is the White Glo Diamond Series Diamond White Toothpaste, which also comes with a Smart Plaque Seeker tablet. This whitening toothpaste works to lift not only plaque, it also gently lifts surface stains and yellowing from the enamel, for whiter and brighter teeth.

And I really like the included Plaque Seeker tablet - I grew up in Denmark were kids have access to free dentists, and in fact all primary schools more or less have a dentist on the school grounds. So everyone went to the dentist twice a year, (during school time, YAY) - and it was during the earlier years when we were younger and only still learning to brush our teeth properly that we were always given these tablets. Again, I always use an electric toothbrush, but I am certainly guilty of then doing a few other things while I brush my teeth, so using one of these tablets now and again is just a good confirmation of how well the teeth are really brushed, and if any areas should be done better!

The White Glo Diamond Series Advanced Teeth Whitening System claims to give you whiter teeth in a week with just 5 minutes daily use. It contains an Advanced Whitening Gel, Mouth Tray and Professional Choice Toothpaste to help whiten your smile.

The formula, made with the same ingredients dentists use in clinics, is designed to lift stains and remove yellowing on the surface of the tooth enamel safely and without abrasion.

To use, you simply apply the gel into the mouth tray, and place it in the mouth for a minimum of 5 minutes (max of 15 minutes) before taking out the mouth tray and rinsing the mouth. You repeat this daily treatment for 1-2 weeks, and then rest for a week, before starting a new cycle.

I have to say that this is a fuss free treatment, and it is so quick and easy to do, it is just finding a convenient time to do it, which personally I find is when I shower - simply pop it in the mouth before showering, and by the time you're finished, its time to take it out. The actual mouth tray is, although it is a one-size-fits-all', surprising comfortable to wear as it is soft and flexible.

Finally, there's the White Glo Whitening Pen, which is a convenient easy to use pen with a twist applicator. You simply twist the pen to dispense the gel, and then brush it on to your teeth, making sure to avoid putting it on your gums. You then need to leave it on for 10-30 minutes without eating or drinking, and hereafter rinse the mouth with water. This pen can be used 2-3 times a day for maximum results. 

This particular pack also comes with some bonus whitening strips, which are flexible strips preloaded with the whitening gel, easy to place on your teeth, there are some for both upper and lower teeth, and leave on for 10 minutes before discarding. I didn't particularly like the strips as I found them a little fiddly to use, and a little weird in the mouth too maybe because you wear them for up to 30 minutes, then I find the actual Whitening System a lot easier, and quicker too!

As I've been using all of these products in combination, it is a little tricky to exactly pinpoint the effect of any of the particular products - but overall I have to say that I am impressed with the results. Even my hubby has made comments on how much white and brighter my teeth look, and in such a short period of time, and with minimum effort too!

I will definitely continue in particular the Power Brush Tooth Paste, as well as the Whitening System is perfect for giving your teeth a 'whitening boost' now and again.

And what I really like is that all products are still gentle and not too abrasive, so they won't cause any damage, or irritate the teeth, or make them become sensitive. So as they are all at budget friendly prices ranging from $6.99 to $19.99 they are certainly a great affordable alternative to getting your teeth whitened at the dentist!

Up and Close with…. Jade from Australia’s Next Top Model – The new ambassador for Colgate Optic White

Are you watching Australia’s Next Top Model and following all the antics in the mansion?

Last week's the challenge on Australia’s Next Top Model was to attend a casting for Colgate Optic White where the prize is a paid national Colgate campaign, where the girls had to dazzle everyone on the set. And to no surprise Jade came out the winner with her positive her fantastic attitude and incredible smile.

I’ve had a chat with Jade to discuss her time on Australia's Next Top Model..

Firstly congratulations on winning the challenge on Australia's Next Top Model 2013 - What inspired you to enter the Australia's Next Top Model competition? Have you always wanted to model?

Jade: I have always had a dream to model, however it also seemed so unattainable to me! After lots of encouragement from friends and family, I took the plunge and auditioned! Never thought I would be even given a chance, but look at me now! This opportunity has fast tracked my dream career by giving me the chance to be in a national campaign for Colgate Optic White!



What it like being a part of the show? And what was the biggest challenge you faced during your time on the show?

Jade: It’s really quite unstable and unpredictable, and we were surprised with new challenges and tasks daily! They wanted to keep us on the edge of our seats, and we were definitely all very nervous and uptight as well as excited and thrilled to be a part of the show. The biggest challenge is definitely having to adjust to a completely different world and daily schedule, even the way I trained and ate changed, and to not have much contact with my family was also very difficult for me and most of the girls.

 

How does it feel to have been named a new ambassador for Colgate Optic White?

Jade: I cannot even express my happiness in words, being the face of Colgate Optic White is such a brilliant opportunity and I am so grateful to the Foxtel and Colgate Team for giving me the privilege to be their ambassador! I honestly feel on top of the world!


And what are your hopes for the future? What is the ultimate job you’d like to book as a model? 

Jade: I would love to continue on modelling and building my own empire and brand, as well as finishing of my University double degree of International Studies and Law. I believe education is extremely important but I am ambitious and want to make sure I continue to pursue modelling as it is one of my great loves. The ultimate job would definitely be a covergirl for Vogue Australia, but I would also love to walk in The New York and Paris Fashion weeks next year.

 

What are the best tips you picked up by the stylists or make-up artists working behind the scenes on the show?

Jade: I honestly suck at doing my own hair! When I am at home I just put it up in a pony or a bun. At work, it’s constantly being moulded into a new hairstyle though, so I avoid using heat or products on it when I’m not doing a modelling job.


How do you keep your body in such tip-top condition - do you follow a special exercise regime or eat a special diet?

Jade: I drink LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of tea! I am a tea freak! And I eat clean most of the time! However it is important to allow yourself to have treats (I love chocolate and homemade pizzas!) J I take a multi vitamin and fish oil in the morning also to make sure I am getting all the good stuff I need. I am also a vegetarian so I need to make sure I get all my vitamins and minerals and macro nutrients.

What’s your beauty regime?


Jade: My beauty Regime is pretty minimal, I use organic facial and body products that are free from animal testing and all the nasty stuff that some companies put in their products. I moisturise every day (or try to). The truth is, I don’t really get my nails done weekly and I cannot remember the last time I sat in a hairdresser seat! Should probably go for a visit sometime soon…

Tell me about some of your beauty secrets?

Jade: I Keep it simple and natural! The secret to being beautiful on the outside is definitely taking care of your insides, so I exercise daily and make sure I only put the best foods in my body

Product Review: Best Beauty Bargain Buys – 6.09.2013

The last few weeks I have been doing a post on Best Bargain Beauty Buys, and thought I’d continue this series, as I use so inexpensive products on a daily basis, so here are my picks this week;

 

*Colgate Optic White Toothpaste – RRP: $7.99 (110g) – Available from Priceline, pharmacies, and supermarkets

 

 

I stopped drinking coffee over a year ago, when I got pregnant. I’d gone from drinking countless cups (actually mugs) a day of strong coffee, and then I went complete cold turkey. It was tough, but I somehow survived. I had thought that I’d get withdrawal headaches etc, but actually I didn’t, rather I was quickly feeling so much better for not drinking that much coffee. But drinking all that coffee had caused one thing, my teeth were no longer as white as they used to be. But being pregnant, I didn’t want to turn to teeth whitening, I didn’t even feel like using whitening toothpastes, so I had to live with it. After now having given birth 10 weeks ago, I have started using the Colgate Optic White Toothpaste to see if Colgate could live up to the promise of three shades whiter teeth after four weeks use – and while I am not sure that my teeth are three shades whiter (how are you supposed to measure that!!), they do seem whiter, brighter and less stained. And nothing brightens up your face more than a pearly white smile!!

 

*Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Scrub – RRP: $13.95 (140g) – Available from Priceline, pharmacies, and supermarkets

 

If you have seen my previous reviews, you’d know that I love the Aveeno Positively Radiant product range, and this Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Scrub is no exception. Like the rest of the Positively Radiant product range, this scrub smells amazing and it has superfine beads, that are so tiny that you can hardly feel that it is a scrub, - until you’ve rinsed your face. Then you realise how effective they are, as your skin is left so soft and smooth and glowing, without causing any irritation or redness. And because the beads are so fine, it is so gentle too, so suitable for daily use, even for those with sensitive skin.

 

*Models Prefer Moisture Lust Lipstick in Fairy Floss – RRP: $11.99 – Available from Priceline

 

 

This lipstick from Models Prefer is like a lip butter, offering the benefits of a lip balm, yet giving the lips a sheer tint with a glossy sheen at the same time, but while it is sheer, the colour can easily be built up a little. It is so smooth to apply to the lips. It has a good wear of a few hours, and once it has worn off, the lips feel soft and moisturised, no doubt due to containing Vitamin E.

 

 

I love that It is paraben free, and also contains UVA and UVB filters to protect the lips from sun damage. The colour Fairy Floss is a subtle pink colour that just highlights the colour of my lips, and adding the sheen too. At just $11.99 this lipstick is a bargain buy with great quality comparable to other more expensive but similar products on the market.

 

Nivea Pure & Natural Body Lotion - $7.99 (400ml) – Available from Priceline, pharmacies, and supermarkets

 

 

I have a fond relationship with Nivea. I have grown up using the products, and to this day I find that you can always rely on their products being efficient and great value for money. What excites me about this body lotion is that it unlike other Nivea body lotions is made 95% natural ingredients, and it doesn’t contain any chemical nasties including parabens, colourants, silicones or mineral oils. And usually Nivea products have this special Nivea scent, but not this body lotion, as it has the most gorgeous fresh green scent. The body lotion comes in an easy to use pump bottle, and is light and absorbs easily leaving the skin thoroughly moisturised. At just $7.99 for such a large bottle, this is a bargain find!

 

*Dove Pure Roll-On Anti-Perspirant Deodorant - RRP: $3.89 – Available from Priceline, pharmacies and supermarkets

 

 

 

Like everyone else, I rely on a deodorant to keep me fresh and sweat-free, but would prefer to use a more natural alternative, without quite going to the extent of waving a crystal rock under my armpits. So I love the fact that Dove has launched an efficient deodorant free from parabens, colourants, alcohol and fragrance, but at the same time still containing 1/4 moisturising cream to continuously care for and moisturise your armpits. I have previously reviewed the Dove Pure Roll-On Anti-Perspirant Deodorant, but have repurchased several times already, at just $3.89, this is truly a bargain buy!

Product Review: Colgate MaxWhite One Ice

I drink a lot of tea and coffee, and although I have tried to curb my coffee addiction in recent months, I still consume my fair share. And well, as we all know, it is not exactly helping your pearly whites, so I was excited when I was offered to trial* the Colgate Max White Once Ice. Here are my thoughts;

 

 

What they say:

"Colgate MaxWhite ONE Ice helps improve the whiteness of your teeth in one week. The whitening toothpaste features a formula with whitening accelerators that work to remove surface stains, leaving your teeth one shade whiter in seven days. Continued use will help keep them whiter for longer".

What I say:

In spite of drinking my fair share of tea and coffee, my teeth are not particularly yellow or stained, but regardless, after one week of using Colgate MaxWhite One I am quite impressed with the results, and can definitely see an improvement, though they are subtle and far from dramatic. But again, this may simply be because my teeth were not that stained to begin with.

The instructions on the box recommend that the toothpaste is used for two minutes three times daily. But as it is just not practical for me to brush my teeth in the middle of the day as well, my results are based on two brushes per day, morning and night.

The actual toothpaste has a strong minty flavour, which I like. For me, the stronger the flavour of the toothpaste, the better, as I like the fresh and minty breath that you are left with. But I have to admit that with the title ‘ICE’, I was expecting a stronger and more cooling sensation, however still it was still very pleasing.

The toothpaste has a gel consistency and has a pleasant gritty sensation on the tooth's surface, which doesn’t feel abrasive on the teeth, and after brushing the teeth feel smooth and clean.

Unlike most other toothpastes, the Colgate MaxWhite One comes in a tube with a larger flat top flip lid which makes it so much easier to open. But it also means that that the tube can stand on its lid, with the benefits that the paste can flow to the lid making it easier to squeeze out every last bit of the toothpaste.

If you purchase Colgate MaxWhite One solely to whiten teeth, it will take you a while. But then you have to remember that this is an over the counter toothpaste, and not a professional treatment, which is likely to give you more dramatic results (which of course also comes at a much higher price!).

The MaxWhite One is a little more costly than other toothpastes also given that the tube is a little smaller in size, however as I am always very mindful of my teeth the price is justified as this toothpaste really does help keep stains at bay leaving my teeth looking brighter.
