Each year, Product of the Year, which is a consumer voted awards program that recognises product innovation, announces a range of winning products.
The products span across 50 categories, including baby care, health foods, skin care, beauty and more, and votes for the winning products are backed by the votes of 14,000+ consumers and aims to provide a time and money saving shortcut for shoppers, guiding them towards the very best products.
The Nielsen research that determines the winners involves evaluating consumer response using the six key principles derived from their learnings about successful innovation.
1. Relevance – Is the product fulfilling a need or addressing a problem?
2. Uniqueness – Does is stand out and bring something new to the category?
3. Excitement – Does it excite them? Would they spread the word?
4. Likeability – Does it deliver what you want?
5. Value Perception – Do you think it provides value for money?
6. Purchase Intent – How likely are you to buy this product (again)
This year some of the beauty winners include Community Co. Luxury Bar Soaps. The Coffee & Coconut Exfoliating Soap Bars, which are made using among other shea butter, vitamin E and coconut powder. A gorgeous soap that gently cleanses while giving the skin a gentle exfoliation at the same time.

Another winner is the Lacura Renew Expert Wrinkle Smoother and Double Effect Eye Gel. These products promises to reduce the appearance of existing fine lines and wrinkles and prevents the formation of new wrinkles, providing an instant ‘lifting effect’.
The Double Effect Eye Gel is made with among other caffeine, horse chestnut, kudzu extract,extract, along with a peptide extract, and helps refresh tired eyes, reduce the appearance of puffiness and lines and wrinkles while intensively moisturising the skin.
The Renew Expert Wrinkle Smoother contains among others Mimox, shea butter and Vitamin E to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and prevent the formation of new ones, while also producing an immediate lifting effect, and moisturising the skin or a more even and rejuvenated look.
