Recently I’ve been more and more aware of the ingredients of the products that I use on my skin, and one of the things that particularly makes me look for alternatives, is deodorants, simply as we have all heard so many negatives about the use of aluminium, which is said to be in most drug-store branded deodorants. I’ve put some deodorants from MyAura Organics* to the test, to see if they stack up against my usual anti-perspirant deodorants.
I have to say that generally I am quite lucky that I do not sweat a lot, but naturally, being summer, hot and humid, you still got to rely on the deodorant giving you protection.
The MyAura Organics All Natural Deodorant Sticks are made using only nature-enriched organic ingredients that are safe to put on the body, and also safe for the environment, including essential oils, cold pressed coconut oil, aloe vera and vitamin E and shea butter. This means that the deodorants are free from Aluminum, and also free from palm oil, synthetic fragrances, zinc, and preservatives. They are also vegan-friendly, contain no parabens, and have not been tested on animals. In fact, MyAura claims that they’re so natural that you can eat then!!
The deodorants are as such not anti-perspirants, so it is actually important not to compare them to your usual ones, but rather they promise to provide “natural and fresh all over scent, and assist with some sweat absorption and also help to neutralise body odour".
The deodorants come in a good range of different gorgeous natural scents including Lavender Sage Rosemary, Rose Vanilla Jasmine, Ylang Ylang Rose, and Bergamot Lime Coconut, and can also be used as a light fragrance by applying it to any other part of the body such as the wrists, neck, and back of knees. The deodorants have a dry touch formula that feels lovely on the skin.
I tried the Ylang Ylang Rose, a slightly spicy rose scent, and Lavender Sage Rosemary, which a beautiful fresh calming scent.
So what did I think.. for starters, I really like the scent of these, such a refreshing change to have natural scented deodorants and not the artificial floral ones. I also like how they are feeling on my skin, soft and smooth, and non irritating, and of course that they are free from all the nasties, and in stead contain natural ingredients such as aloe vera and vitamin E and shea butter that helps care for my skin.
As for the effectiveness, yes, on a few of the hot and humid 30+ days, I did feel that they were not quite as efficient as my usual deodorants, but still I never felt that I smelt sweaty, so the fragrance was clearly helping to neutralise any odour as claimed - without the use of one, I would be a walking stink-bomb, without a doubt.
I don’t think I would use these on days where I feel I really rely on a deodorant to work, such as for special events or very long days in the the hot weather. But even so, I will continue to use and enjoy these deodorants, especially as we head towards the cooler months of the year.
