PRODUCT REVIEW: THALGO SILICIUM CONCENTRATE INTENSIVE RESTRUCTURING CELLULAR BOOSTER

As a beauty blogger I know that I am very fortunate to get to try a large selection of products, which does mean that I swap and change a lot - but whenever I am not testing anything, there are certain products that I always revert to. And so, one of my favourite foundations is without a doubt the Thalgo Silicium Anti-Ageing Foundation as it is simply so perfect for my mature combination skin, or for more casual days, the Thalgo BB Cram (you can read more about them here) - but hence when the Thalgo Silicium Concentrate Intensive Restructuring Cellular Booster landed on my desk, I naturally got very excited and couldn't wait to put it to the test.

The Thalgo Silicium Concentrate Intensive Restructuring Cellular Booster (phew, what a name to remember!!) is an intensely re-sculpting, this highly concentrated serum that is to be used as a one month intensive treatment prior to moisturiser, morning and/or evening, which can be repeated several times throughout the year. It is aimed at those with mature skin 40+ looking for anti-ageing treatments. It promises to among others;
  • Hydrate the skin
  • Redensifies the skin
  • Protects hyaluronic acid production
  • Restructures the skin
  • Redefines facial contours
  • Fight against visible wrinkles and skin slackening and loss of firmness to eyelids, facial contours and neck

With my combination skin prone to breakouts, I am always a little concerned when I try new anti-ageing products, as they are often very rich, and often quickly make my skin congested and breakout. Not easy being in the age bracket where anti-ageing is needed, but your skin acts like a teenager's!

But I didn't need to worry. This concentrate is extremely light and non-greasy, and has not made my skin feel or look greasier, or caused any breakouts. It absorbs immediately into the skin, and leaves it so incredibly soft and with a velvety smooth finish, while clearly it is adding intense hydration to the skin.

And after just a few days of using morning and evening, I started to see results, which only got better and better each day. My skin not only enjoyed the intense hydration and looked so much softer and smoother, but also more relaxed and rested, but more importantly more plump, to the point that fine lines, especially those around my eyes, and that annoying frown line between my brows, have clearly minimised in size. I am not sure if my skin and facial contours are lifted and redefined as claimed, but as such, my skin is, thankfully, not really sagging yet either, but given the other results I have seen, I am convinced that a few more treatment rounds will see some results there too.

I am also loving the fact that it leaves my skin feeling so velvety soft, and that it also works so perfectly under makeup during the day, and actually, I feel that it makes my makeup look more flawless too.

I also love that it is completely free from all the chemical nasties such as parabens, mineral oils, GMO and propylen glycol.

The serum is not cheap, but it is seriously concentrated stuff, and I am expecting that there will be sufficient concentrate in the bottle for approx three rounds of treatment, ie. three months. And given the results of this, I find that it is well worth it if you're looking do something extra for your skin, perhaps in the lead up a special event such as a wedding.

Thalgo Silicium Concentrate Intensive Restructuring Cellular Booster - RRP: $146.50 / 30ml

PRODUCT REVIEW: THALGO COLD CREAM MARINE DEEPLY NOURISHING BODY CREAM

Today I'd like to share with you a newly discovered favourite, the Thalgo Cold Cream Marine Deeply Nourishing Body Cream.

This cream is an intensive cream designed for very dry and sensitive skin, and let me here start by saying that I don't normally have dry skin, but for some reason, this winter has really taken its toll on my skin, and the light body lotions which are usually more than sufficent for me, have simply just not cut it this winter, leaving my skin dry, scaly and itchy too. So this intensely nourishing cream was a welcome addition. The gentle scented cream contains a high concentration od repairing cold cream marine, along with shea butter, and cocoa butter to give the skin intense hydration to help repair dry and damaged skin, while repairing the skin barrier. It also contains organic white lupin extract to help stimulate the skin to synthesise its own essential lipids. Wild rose oil, passionfruit seed oil, sweet almong oil, olive fruit oil, cupuacu butter along with sea water to work together to intensely nourish, repair and soothe the skin.

The thick cream does take a few moments to absorb, but it instantly feels calming on the skin, and already after the first application you can tell that the skin is enjoying this intense drink of moisture, and while using my usual body moisturisers I've had to reapply during the day when my skin has become itchy, this is simply not needed when using this cream.

At $67 it doesn't come cheap, but as always, the French has it right when it comes to skin care, and this Body Cream is no exception as it has seriously made such a difference to my dry, itchy and irritated skin this winter that I definitely find that it is worth it. I am not sure that I will have the need for such an intense cream come the warmer months, but then there is also a lighter Body Lotion available from the same range which would no doubt be worth checking out too!

Thalgo Cold Cream Marine Deeply Nourishsing Body Cream - RRP: $67 / 200ml
Available from Thalgo and select retailers

BRAND FOCUS: THALGO SKINCARE

As a beauty blogger I am fortunately to get to try many more products and brands than most others, and with new products, and brands, hitting the shelves constantly, often favourites quickly get replaced. But two of those products that I have loved for some time, is the Silicium Anti-Ageing Foundation as well as the BB Cream from Thalgo (you can read all about them here), as it gives my skin just the right amount of coverage, while caring for my ageing skin at the same time. So today I'm excited to share with you some other incredible products from Thalgo...

Let me start with the Thalgo Cocooning Cleansing Milk. Normally I have combination skin, but in the midst of winter I do find that my skin becomes drier, and at times also slightly irritated, while in the midst of summer it can sometimes be almost oily. I admit to generally preferring a gel cleanser where I can splash water in my face afterwards, and not like this one where you remove any excess with a cotton pad.

However, apart from my waterproof makeup, it does remove my makeup quickly, easily and very gently too, and afterwards my skin is feeling very soft, almost as if I've already applied a moisturiser. It also seems to have a calming effect on the skin, - I don't particularly have sensitive skin, but my skin does get irritated by very cold winds, so if its feeling a little red and 'raw' after coming home from a walk around the lake with the pram and the dogs, this cleanser seems to quickly be able to soothe and calm my skin again.

The Thalgo Exfoliating Lotion is an exfoliating lotion containing clear expert complex to brighten the complexion and leave it more radiant, It also has a high content of salicylic acid to exfoliate and bioecolla, which has anti-bacterial properties.

The Exfoliating lotion, which as next to no scent, has the consistency of a toner, and is applied to the skin with a cotton pad after cleansing the skin morning and night (although I have to admit that I like to pad mine in with the hands only!) and before any serum and moisturiser.

I really like that you leave this on the skin to do its magic, and after just a few days I can tell that my skin is not only looking better and brighter, it is also seems to be softer and a few stubborn pimples seem to have suddenly cleared up a lot faster.

Then there's the Thalgo Freshness Exfoliator is another product that I've been loving lately, and intended for normal to combination skin, it is perfect for my skin. It contains among others grapefruit extract, red algae, and menthol as well as polyethylene micro beads, which help deep cleanse the skin deep down every single pore, as well as gently buff away dead skin cells, dirt and grime. It has a very light consistency and the scrubbing beads are super fine, in fact so fine that I thought it surely wouldn't be very effective, but I was very wrong as it leaves my skin feeling so soft and smooth, and without any irritation because it is so gentle. I also love that it contains menthol as it gives it a nice fresh scent, as well as it leaves a nice cooling sensation on the skin after use.

Finally, there's the Thalgo Ultra Hydra Marine Mask. With my combination skin I have for a long time thought that using moisture masks wouldn't benefit my skin, but on the contrary make it even greasier. But using one, especially during winter can be a true life-safer.

The mask contains among others; two Hyaluronic Acids that stimulate the synthesis of aquaporins to activate the flow of water from the dermis to the epidermis, as well as the synthesis of epidermal hyaluronic acid that holds water in the skin, to intensely moisturise the skin and give it a plumping effect. It also contains Sève Bleue des Océans, a marine spring water drawn from the heart of the oceans, rich in trace elements and mineral salts, to hydrate and give the skin a healthy glow.

To use, you simply apply a generous layer over the face and neck and leave it on for 5 minutes before tissuing off any excess, and you're left with skin that is incredibly soft and smooth. And my skin really does seems plumper and fine lines therefore also appear to have slightly minimised in size. And what I also notice is by the incredible radiant glow that it gives my skin for hours after use. It is recommended using the mask twice a week, and it is also perfect to use before a special occasion to give your skin a beautiful glow.

Overall Thalgo really has impressed me again with their beautiful products. I particularly love the Exfoliating Lotion, which has really made a difference to the clarity of my skin and is so easy to incorporate into my existing skincare routine. But I do also love the Freshness Exfoliator as it is so gentle, yet effective, and the Ultra Hydra Marine Mask is just one of those that are great to have at hand when you feel your skin needs a boost of energy and radiance.

Thalgo Cocooning Cleansing Milk - RRP: $60.50 / 250ml
Thalgo Freshness Exfoliator - RRP: $62.50 / 50m
Thalgo Exfoliating Lotion - RRP: $46 / 125ml
Thalgo Ultra Hydra Marine Mask - RRP: $79 / 50ml

PRODUCT REVIEW: THALGO SILICIUM CREAM AND SILICIUM EYE CREAM

The other day I posted about some Thalgo foundations, including a BB Cream and the Silicium Foundation (which you can see here!), and while they are very different I really love both, depending on the situation, my ageing skin is in particularly loving the anti-ageing Silicium Formula. So today I thought that I'd talk a little more about some of the products from this range, the Thalgo Silicium Cream and Silicium Eye Cream.

These products are targeted for those over the age 40+ so perfect for my skin! The Silicium Cream Wrinkle Correction "Lifting" Effect is designed to combat visible wrinkles and skin sagging, while smoothing, filling and lifting the skin as well as redefining the oval shape of the face! The promised result is a firmer skin where lines and wrinkles are "pushed out' from within, and the overall face feeling 'lifted'.

With my combination skin always prone to breakouts, I am always very conscious trying new face creams, and in particularly anti-ageing ones as they often tend to be too heavy and end up congesting my skin. But I am very pleased that this Silicium Cream is very light, and it absorbs quickly, while at the same time, feeling very hydrating on my skin.

The Silicium Eye Cream promises to be nourish, smooth, and fill in wrinkles while lifting the eye contour area, for eyes that are more rejuvenated.

The cream is quite rich and hydrating, yet it is far from heavy or greasy which wouldn't be idea near around the area, and like the face cream it absorbs quickly into the skin.

So what do I think of this duo. Well I am rather impressed as I do feel that my skin is looking plumper and more intensely moisturised than it did prior, and for that reason, I also think that some of the smaller lines and wrinkles, especially on my forehead seems to have minimised in appearance, and overall my skin just has a healthy glow.

As for my eyes, I feel they look less tired as the puffiness and bags under they eyes have definitely lessened, and again, fine lines seems to have softened and are now less noticeable.

The face Silicium Cream comes in a plastic jar that looks like it is made from glass. It has a stunning see-through purple shade, and a futuristic UFO-ish shape with a silver lid that is just stunning. The eye cream also comes in a purple jar, although the one I have is a special smaller 10ml version in a purple tube!

So overall, like the foundations, these cream have really impressed with their quality and performance, and as I feel my face is definitely looking younger and healthier, and I look less tired with less puffiness and lines, I certainly wouldn't hesitate purchasing either of these again.

Thalgo Silicium Cream Wrinkle Correction "Lifting" Effect- RRP: $136 / 50ml
Thalgo Silicium Eye Cream Wrinkle Correction "Lifting" Effect - RRP: $62.50 / 15ml

PRODUCT REVIEW: THALGO BB CREAM PERFECT GLOW AND SILICIUM ANTI-AGEING FOUNDATION

Today I'd like to talk abut two different foundations from Thalgo - The BB Cream Perfect Glow and the Silicium Anti-Ageing Foundation.

First up is the Thalgo BB Cream, which offers a light coverage, however still manages to even out and soften minor imperfections and irregularities thanks to containing coated pigments, although I do feel that a concealer is necessary to cover up darker pigmentation, age spots and those dark circles under my eyes. And it leaves my skin looking more even toned, with a velvety finish and a healthy natural radiant glow.

The BB Cream contains among others Seve Marine, an algae that acts to repair the skin barrier and restore and maintain optimum moisture levels. It also contains chondrus crispus which is another algae, rich in proteins and vitamins to moisturise and regenerate the skin. It is thus a very moisturising formula, and it therefore feels so lovely on the skin, and when you remove it at night, it almost feels like you've just taken off a moisture mask. It does, unfortunately also for my skin mean that I do have to touch it up half-way through the day when my skin gets too greasy looking, but on the other hand, I'm pretty used to that!

I really enjoy using this Thalgo BB Cream as a casual everyday makeup, on the days I don't need to be too made up, and I love that it cares for my skin while I wear it, and also offers SPF15 for some protection against the sun's rays. And it also has the most gorgeous fresh scent.

Next up is the Thalgo Silicium Foundation, which is a multi-tasking product combining anti-ageing ingredients with makeup. It contain among others redensifying marine silicium and hyaluronic acid complemented by radiance-enhancing pigments, provides an optical correction of wrinkles and other skin imperfections.

The foundation promises to feel smoother and over time, gradually also visibly firmer and more toned. I don't wear makeup every single day, and I do swap and change a bit, and consequently I also am yet to see any permanent improvement to my skin and any decrease in wrinkles from using this foundation.

That said, I do love the immediate effect and look it gives my skin. It easily covers imperfections, age spots, blemishes and redness, yet still has such a light formula that my skin is looking natural and with a nice glow. Used with a primer first, it has a long wear, and I only need to powder my t-zone area mid-day otherwise it stays put all day, without changing colour, sliding or settling into those fine lines. Unfortunately it doesn't smell quite as lovely as the BB Cream, but even so it has a subtle typical foundation scent. And unfortunately it also doesn't seem to contain SPF, which would have been ideal. On the other hand I do like that it comes in a stylish glass bottle with a convenient pump.

For women who are after a multi-purpose product that targets wrinkles while giving a smoothing finished to their complexion.

Thalgo Anti-Aging Foundation gives a glow for a natural-looking result in every light. Its anti-aging action meets the needs of mature skin making it gradually appear firmer, smoother and velvety-soft. Its indulgent texture, rich in redensifying marine silicium and hyaluronic acid complemented by radiance-enhancing pigments, provides an optical correction of wrinkles and other skin imperfections. The complexion appears flawless and the skin remains smooth all day long.

I really enjoy using this Silicium Foundation and the fact that it actually cares for my ageing skin while I use it, it simply makes my complexion more even and my skin look smoother, as if a few years have been shaved off my face, and for that it deserves extra bonus points!

But overall, I really like both the BB Cream and the Silicium Foundation, and pending the situation, I know I will be reaching for both in the coming months.

Thalgo BB Cream Perfect Glow - RRP: $48 / 30ml
Thalgo Silicium Anti-Ageing Foundation - RRP: $75 / 30ml

HOSPITAL BAG - MAKEUP

Just nine days left until the baby is due!! Well of course, unless baby wants to come sooner that is. I know that I won’t feel like wearing full-on makeup whilst in hospital, but still, I know that I will feel a lot better if I wear at least a little when visitors come to meet our little bub. And not to mention later on when I look at all the happy snaps that will no doubt be taken.
The intended stay at the hospital is about 4 nights, so at least I'll get something for all the money we're forking out on private hospital cover each month! So I have packed some key makeup items for the stay – plus a few more, just in case… and although I did initially plan on packing lightly, I know it will still contain a lot more products than originally intended, but what I can I say, I'm serial over-packer, and besides, it is always easier to bring it along yourself, than having to ask hubby to find it and bring it for you!! Anyway, here’s what I’ve included;

Thalgo BB Cream Perfect Glow

This BB Cream from Thalgo, is perfect as it helps give the skin some much needed moisture (who doesn’t get dry skin when they’re in hospital), plus it gives the skin a light coverage with and a nice healthy and radiant glow. I don’t expect to look like Kate (after all, I doubt I’ll have a makeup and hair artist at hand!), just a few hours after birth, but I’d still like to look my best when visitors are coming and for the tons of photos that will be taken and treasured for years and years to come. RRP: $47.00

Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish Perfectly Satin 24HR Makeup
This foundation is my current favourite full coverage foundation, and if my skin is going to be playing up, which it is prone to, then this will be my go-to product. I know that it will give me a good, yet natural coverage, and best of all, I can trust that it stays put all day, so I don’t need to worry about having to touch-up, or that it rubs off onto my little bub. RRP: $50.00

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer
As I write this, I am feeling pretty drained and tired as I’ve completely forgotten what a good night’s sleep is, which consequently does show with increasing dark circles under my eyes. My preferred go to concealer is here the Secret Camouflage concealer, which comes with two shades so that you can blend your ideal shade. It is quick and easy to apply, and stays put all day. The perfect camouflage for looking like you’re well-rested! $49.00

Jane Iredale Blush + Amazing Base Mineral PowderIf I do feel like I need a touch up during the day, I swear by the refillable brush from Jane Iredale with the Amazing Base powder. It is simply so quick and easy to use, and the powder is so fine it gives you a natural look without setting into the fine lines. Unfortunately I’ve lost the lid to the powder brush, so I’ll have to be careful when packing it! RRP: Refillable Brush: $45.00, Amazing Base Powder: $79.00

ELES Mineral Makeup Blush in Coral Sun

This would have to be one of my my most reached for blushes. The peachy-pink shade simply instantly gives my dull and drab looking face some much needed spark, thanks to the lightly shimmery formula. And as all the other products I’ve picked out, I can trust that it will stay put without fading of sliding off my face during the day. RRP: $39.50

Ere Perez Clever Carrot Cheek & Lip Balm
If I am wearing the BB Cream, and not the full covering foundation from Elizabeth Arden, then I really like the more natural blushed cheek look that I get from using the Clever Carrot Cheek & Lip Balm from Ere Perez. It is super quick to blend into your cheeks with your fingers for a sheer non-makeup natural look. And clever as it is, you can simply swipe any remains of the cream onto your lips, for a beautiful lip stain. RRP: $27.95

Jane Iredale Rose Dawn Bronzer
Another Jane Iredale favourite that will make it into the cosmetic bag is the Rose Dawn Bronzer. This bronzer contains four different colours, and combined, it gives the skin a beautiful glow. And I love that you can also use the colours individually on both cheeks and eyes, should I feel like it! RRP: $90.00

Jane Iredale Pommisst Hydration Spray Finally, I will also be packing the Pommisst Hydration Spray from Jane Iredale as it not only helps set your makeup, but it also gives it a more natural and dewy look, all while feeling refreshing tired skin, soothing dry skin and adding some much needed moisture. RRP: $39.00

Clinique Chubby Stick in Lots o’ Latte
I doubt that I will be feeling like doing a full on eye makeup up, so that’s where I rely on this Chubby eye shadow stick from Clinique. The shade Lots o’ Latte is a gorgeous mid-brown shimmery shade that I find myself using on its own all the time when I’m in a hurry, so it is the perfect shade to bring, as one swipe, followed with a quick blend with my fingers, is all it takes. RRP: $35.00

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Blockbuster
One thing that I never fail to do is my eyes, as I simply feel I look so much more awake and fresher when they are done. And one of my favourites is the Liquid Super Liner Blockbuster from L’Oreal. The large texta like pen, quickly and easily draws a line, and I can trust that it will stay put all day. RRP: $16.95

L’Oreal Paris Super Liner Silkissime
Another trusted favourite from L’Oreal is the Silkissime eyeliner for below the last line. Again, it is quick and easy to use, without dragging or pulling my eye area, and although I’ve got sensitive eyes that water easily (and let’s face it, I may become a little teary at the arrival of our little bub), but I can always trust this eyeliner to stay without smudging. RRP: $22.95

Max Factor Excess Volume Mascara
This mascara is huge, about twice the size as any other mascara. But so are the results. The two step mascara starts with the Extreme Volume building end that helps quickly add volume to even the sparsest of lashes, while the Dark Lacquer end ensures that your lashes have a nice glossy finish. And one quick coat of each end is all that it takes for a natural look, while you can of course add a few more coats for a more dramatic look. $26.95

Benefit Gimme Brow
Serial over-plucking of my brows years ago, now means that they are thinner and sparser than I really like, so a good brow product is a necessity. The Gimme Brow from Benefit, is the perfect choice, as the mascara style wand is quick and easy to swipe across your brows for instantly fuller, yet natural looking brows that at the same time stays in place thanks to the added gel. RRP: $35.00

Covergirl Colorlicious lipgloss
And of course I cannot neglect my lips, so I will be bringing these Colorlicious Lipglosses from Covergirl with me. The Give Me Guava is a medium shade warm pink with a gloss sheen, that on the lips shows up as a barely there shade with just the glossy sheen. The Berrylicious shade is a slightly darker warm mauve shade, in case I feel like something a little darker, yet still while being a quite subtle and muted shade. And being lip glosses they are quick and easy to apply, and feels lovely and non – sticky on the lips. RRP: $16.95

Sisley Paris Phyto Lip Shine
And last but not least, because I can never leave the house without a larger selection of lip products (last time I emptied out my handbag (read nappy bag), I found no less than 8 different lipsticks and lipglosses, as well as I also always have a couple stashed away in my car, just in case! So just got to bring at least one more, and cannot go past one of my current favourites, the Sisley Phyto Lip Shine in Sheer Berry. This lip shine is a combination of a lip balm and a lip stain, leaving the lips soft and hydrated which will be so lovely in the dry hospital air, all while giving the lips a beautiful sheer stain with a subtle sheen. RRP: $50
So there you go, the makeup I'll be taking with me to hospital...hope I haven't forgotten anything!!

WINTER SKIN CARE FOR THE FACE

During winter when the temperatures drop, my skin reacts but getting so much drier than it usually is. That is sometimes a blessing for those of us with combination skin, as suddenly you do not have the dreaded afternoon shiny face – however, the joy is short lived, and soon the skin gets drier and drier, and often irritated too. So today I’d like to share with you some of the products I use on my face during winter to save it from drying out but rather keep it moisturised and looking healthy.

But before I start, have you been following my series of post with products to care for your skin and hair during the cold winter months? If not you can see the one on winter care for hair or for hands and feet, or maybe the one for the body or what about the one for lip care?

Anyway, here are my selection of winter saviours for the face…

Veet Face Precision Wax & Care*

I don’t have a lot of facial hair. Thank goodness! But do like to keep my eye brows neat, and that’s where the Veet Face Precision Wax & Care comes in handy. It comes in a small dual-ended pen with was in one end, and Soothing Aftercare Cream with aloe vera in the other end. And it is so easy to use, you simply pop the wax end into a cup of just boiled water and leave for a minute before you apply a thin layer to the desired area. You then pop a fabric strip over the wax layer, rub it a few times before you pull it back. And the final step is applying some of the soothing cream which quickly soothes the skin, taking away any redness, leaving the skin soft and moisturised. The wax end has a slanted nozzle which makes it easy to apply precisely, and giving you such a nice result that personally I prefer to do this from the comfort of my own home, and not have to venture out in the cold to salon to get it done – it is quick and easy to do, and I save quite a few dollars on the way too, as there is plenty of product in the pen for approx. 20 uses.

RRP: $15.99 – Available from supermarkets, Priceline and select pharmacies

La Mav Cranberry Bio Exfoliating Scrub*

When it’s in the midst of winter and warm summer days seems to be but a faint memory, and the face is looking pale and lifeless, nothing works better than using an exfoliating scrub to rid your skin of dead skin cells to leave your skin looking smooth, healthy and glowing. A great option is the certified organic Cranberry Bio Exfoliating Scrub from La Mav which is perfect for combination and oily skin types such as mine. It is a deep cleansing facial scrub which contains bamboo and ascophyllumnodosum extracts to not only gently buff away dead skin cells, but also deep cleanses your pores from excess oil, surface dirt and impurities, while regulating sebum production and improving circulation, to leave your skin more even toned and luminous.

RRP: $29.95 (60ml) – Available from La Mav

Racinne Ultimate Hydra Perfection Gentle Refining Scrub*

Another option is the Ultimate Hydra Perfection Gentle Refining Scrub from Racinne. It contains super fine exfoliating beads, yet it so gently and efficiently scrubs away dead skin cells and impurities from the pores to help promote a more glowing a brighter skin. It also contains lemon grass, peach and seaweed extracts which helps promote the skin to renew itself in 28 days and increase its absorption of nutrients and hydration for a more luminous and radiant skin. The ingredients make it smell so lovely and fresh, and as it is so gentle it can be used daily, although just a few times a week is more than sufficient as it is so potent and efficient.

RRP: $24 (75ml) – Available from Racinne

Pure Fiji Eye Crème*

And of course you cannot forget the sensitive skin around the eyes also needing some extra TLC, and generally, eye cream is one of those products that I cannot live without. This eye crème from Pure Fiji contains a botanical blend of cold pressed nut oils, boosted with dilo and beach almond hydrosol, green coconut kinetin and a powerful of anti wrinkle peptide to help smooth fine lines and strengthen the delicate skin around the eyes. The light cream has a lovely delicate scent, and absorbs instantly into the skin, leaving it feel ever so soft and thoroughly hydrated. And it comes in the cutest little frosted glass pump bottle which makes it so easy to dispense and use.

RRP: $54.95 (15ml) – Available from Pure Fiji

Boots Laboratories Optiva Radiance Boosting Eye Balm
*

If you’re on a budget this Optiva Radiance Boosting Eye Balm from Boots Laboratories is a great suggestion. It helps to soothe and brighten the delicate area around the eye, which is more vulnerable to puffiness and dark circles as the skin is so thin in this area. The light balm has next to no scent and helps make tired skin look more radiant and healthy looking in a short period of time. It is so easy to spread and absorbs into the skin instantly as it has a quite thin formula, yet it leaves the eye area thoroughly moisturised, and without irritating as it is so gentle. And because it absorbs so quickly, it is also perfect for using under makeup.

RRP: $22 (15ml) – Available from Amcal

Elemis Maximum Moisture Day Cream*

The words ‘maximum moisture’ is for someone with combination skin prone to breakouts enough to make me run away as fast as I can – but no need to worry with this day cream from Elemis. The cream has the consistency of a light fluid absorbing instantly into the skin, and in spite of its light formulation it is so moisturising, containing an adaptive technology that intelligently adjusts to your skin’s needs, leaving my skin moisturised, smooth and soft all day long, - and even though it is so moisturising, it never leaves my skin feeling greasy. This also means that it works perfectly under makeup too.

RRP: $83 (50ml) – Available from The Facial Co

Ella Bache Paris Spirulines Intensive Wrinkle Smoothing Cream with Spirulina*

The constant change between the cold outside air, and the warmth inside with the heather going, is enough to leave my otherwise combination and slightly greasy skin craving extra moisture. One brilliant suggestion is the Spirulines Intensive Wrinkle Smoothing Cream from Ella Bache. This concentrated cream is rich in 220 life-essential elements including 70% protein, vitamins, trace elements, minerals, amino acids, which instantly recharges the skin, nourishes it and gives it intense moisture, while visibly improving the appearance of the skin and helps reduce any signs of ageing.

The slightly green cream smells seriously divine, and I love how velvety soft, smooth and glowing it makes my skin.

RRP: $118 (50ml) – Available from Ella Bache

Nutrimetics Ultra Care+ Vitamin Oil with Vitamins A & E*

If you want to give your skin a vitamin boost, then you just cannot go past the Vitamin Oil from Nutrimetics which contains a concentrated blend of oils from Soybean, Safflower, Wheat Germ and Avocado as well as Vitamins A and E, which combined delivers an intense treatment and nourishment to your skin, improving moisture retention and instantly restoring and relieving even extreme dryness. Just a few drops after cleansing and toning your skin is all that it takes, and the dropper bottle makes this quick and easy without any wastage.

And the beauty is that this small bottle of oil is a multi-tasking oil, also suitable to help improve dry areas on the body, for dry and flaky nails and cuticles, in your hair to tame down any fizz or use as an intensive hair treatment before washing it. A true little gem!

Thalgo Melt-Away Mask*

Sometimes not even a very moisturising moisturiser is enough, and you need to reach for a moisture mask to get your skin back to optimum health. I do not have sensitive skin, but a walk with my little boy in the pram in the cold and chilly Melbourne winter weather is enough to leave my cheeks flushed and wind burnt – but as soon as I pop on the Melt Away Mask my skin is instantly soothed and replenished. It is rich in Omega 3 and 6 and helps regulate skin flaking mechanisms, reinforce skin barrier to reduce excess water loss and stimulate cellular regeneration. Left on my skin for just 10-15 minutes and I am left with the softest and most glowing skin.

RRP: $48.95 (50ml) – Available from The Facial Co

Avene Thermal Spring Water*

Another fantastic option for irritated, blushed and red  skin is a quick spray of the Avene Thermal Spring Water, which is enough to instantly offer relief by soothing and calming my skin. And it is perfect for use too during summer when your skin needs cooling down in the hot weather. And the best part is that it is as perfect to use on both clean skin and on top of makeup, and also works like a dream as a makeup setting spray.

RRP: $13.99 (150ml) – Available from Priceline and select pharmacies

Thalgo L’Oceane*

Sometimes applying moisture to your skin is just not enough, and you need to moisture from within. During summer I haven’t got an issue with drinking lots of water, but in winter when it’s cold, I just tend to forget to drink until I am actually really thirsty, or I reach for a cup of tea instead, neither of which is benefitting my skin, or my overall health for that matter.

Enter the Thalgo L’Oceane. These small ampoules contain hypertonic seawater collected in the pure water and are chock full of essential micro-nutrients for the physiological elimination and regeneration of cells, helping to relieve you from feeling of tired, stressed and dehydrated. Just  one or two of these ampoules a day taken before a meal, will give you an energy boost, while helping to detoxify, revitalise and hydrate the body and help you feel more energetic and less fatigued. And who doesn’t need that during winter. The water does taste slightly like salty sea water, and although I don’t particularly love this taste, I do like that these natural ingredients makes my skin look more glowing and radiant and gives me a little extra energy.

RRP: $29 (20 Ampoules) – Available from The Facial Co

THALGO YOUR ALLIES AGAINST THE COLD GIVEAWAY

It is seriously cold at the moment, a recorded 3 degrees in Melbourne yesterday. Brrrrrrr…. You wouldn’t think that I’ve grown up in Scandinavia which can have temperatures down to minus 10, or even minus 15 degrees some nights during winter. So really I should be kind of acclimatised, or feel like the current cold chill is like a heatwave, but sadly not so. I have never felt colder.

And how bad is this cold weather for your skin. My otherwise combination skin is definitely feeling it, and is a lot drier than it usually is.

And well, to help get your skin back on track and into optimum health, the lovely people at Thalgo has kindly sponsored FIVE Thalgo 'Allies against the Cold' Gentle Winter Kits each containing a Delicious Comfort Cream, (50ml), and a Melt-Away Mask Instant Comfort (50 ml tube), which has a combined value of $75 each.
