PRODUCT REVIEW: BELLABOX MARCH 2017
Today I'm very excited to share with you my very first Bellabox. I have, needless to say, tried heaps of other beauty subscriptions over the years, but never Bella Box, though I've always been intrigued and so tempted, so when I was offered the opportunity for a colab, I naturally couldn't resist finding out what all the hype was about.
Now, I am sure you're probably already familiar with Bella Box, but in case you're not - it is a monthly subscription box, where you get 5+ samples delivered each month, with a value guaranteed to exceed the cost of the box! Perfect if you want to try out new products, and keep up with the latest and greatest, without having to fork out big money for full sized products, you may essentially not like, or that you perhaps would never have come across otherwise.
Well, enough of the babbling, let's get onto what was in this months goodies, which came in a little turquoise box with white dots. The box is rather sturdy, and would be great to use for other little knickknacks, but as I've often said before about beauty boxes, I don’t care much for the outer, its what's inside that counts! And here it is..
The theme of the items all go under 'Raw Beauty', and is all about body and skincare to treat the skin without any nasties.
Sukin Hydrating Facial Masque - 50ml (RRP: $15.95 / 100ml)
I love Sukin products. They are efficient, and super gentle and so affordable too. And this moisturising mask will be a perfect mask as we head into winter and the skin will need some more moisture. It contains among others mango seed butter, avocado oil and olive fruit extract, which all sounds pretty good to me, so I can't wait to try it out.
Colour By TBN Nail Polish x 2 - Full Size (RRP: $2.95 / 15ml)
I have tried a couple of these nail polishes before, and considering their low price, they are really good. I got a gorgeous metallic turquoise shade, which I haven't got in my collection, along with a clear shade, which never goes astray. So all happy days from me.
La Mav Gradual Tanning Moisturiser - 10ml (RRP: $39.95 / 200ml)
I am not the biggest user of self tanners, mainly because I don't like smell of them as they develop - but this one claims to not have the 'fake tan smell' so it may just be the products I've been looking for, so cannot wait to put it to the test and see if it stacks up.
Aime New Leaf Deep Pore Exfoliating Polish - 25ml (RRP: $8.99 / 100ml)
The first brand out of the lot that I haven't heard of or tried before, which I like, as for me, discovering new brands is one of the key attributes of a beauty subscription box. This cleanser claims to work deep down every pore, so it sounds like it will be the perfect product for my combination blemish prone skin.
Lily Anne Beauty Clean Purifying Cleanser - 10ml (RRP: $44.00 / 100ml)
Another brand that is new to me, yay. This cleanser is from an Australian brand, (yay again), and it is a deep cleansing and purifying cleanser, so again perfect for my skin type. I also love that the purchase of Lily Anne products help support empower women out of poverty, which is such a great cause.
Swisse Rose Hip Facial Moisturiser - 10ml (RRP: $9.95 / 125ml)
I have naturally heard of Swisse but only ever tried their vitamins, not their skincare, so it is kind of a new brand to me as well. This moisturiser is for normal skin, but claims to be non-greasy so it may just be great for my skin anyway. It includes rose water and smells so beautiful.
Palmer's Raw Shea Body Lotion - 5ml sachet - Bonus Sample
This is a bonus sample, so cannot really complain about it, but I would naturally have loved a larger size as the sachet hardly contains enough cream to cover my full body. That said, I do look forward to trying this 'cleaner' version and the intense moisture of this sounds like it will be the perfect moisturiser as we head towards winter.
So there you go, the contents of the March '17 Bellabox. Personally I am quite impressed with both the variety and amount of samples contained in this box. I would have loved the inclusion of a few more 'luxe' items as I am more likely to purchase full sized products of cheaper brands, knowing there is a risk I may not like them, the expense is not so high. But that said, a lot of my beauty staples are budget brands, so it is always great being exposed to some new ones.
My fave items in the box is without a doubt the Sukin mask, followed by the Lily Anne cleanser - and I'm surprising myself here, but although I am not a regular self-tanner, I am actually looking forward to testing this on from La Mav.

PRODUCT REVIEW: LA MAV ORGANIC BB CREAM, EYE SHADOW AND TINTED LIP TREATMENT
Today I'm going to talk about a brand called La Mav Organic Skin Science. La Mav is an Australian owned and made brand, and all products are organic, with a high percentage of ingredients certified organic. The products are also toxic free and vegan, an free from petrochemicals, parabens, sulphates, synthetic fragrances and colours, phthalates, talc, PEGs, TEA, DEA, and silicones. Rather the products are made using 100% plant based, naturally derived ingredients loaded with vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids and herbal extracts to help repair, rejuvenate, and restore the skin.
Which all sounds pretty good to me. I put a couple of different La Mav Mineral Makeup products to the test..
The La Mav Organic BB Cream, is made using 73% are certified organic ingredients, and it only has a light coverage. I would personally have liked a slightly better coverage, but that said, it does even out the skin nicely, covering minor pigmentation and redness, while leaving a nice glow, thanks to the tiny shimmery particles.
I love that it has anti-ageing benefits, being infused with among others vitamin C, rosehip oil, aloe vera leaf juice, sweet almond oil, jojoba seed oil, and avocado oil, so it cares and nourishes my skin while I wear it. It comes in a convenient pump bottle, and It has a mattifying effect, which I also really like, as it is perfect for my combination skin, as it makes it stay put looking matte all day.
Next up is the La Mav Eye Shadow, which is a loose pigment shadow, which I tried in the shade Champagne, a pale nude shade, with just a touch of fine shimmer - the perfect shade to use as a base for any other shade. These eye shadows are made with 100%natural pure earth minerals, and really are very pigmented. I personally prefer pressed eye shadows, mainly because I often end up spilling some and making a huge mess, but I do like this one -it is easy to apply with a brush, and blends really easily, and also stays put all day without settling into fine lines. There are just four shades in the range, but all looking gorgeous, so I certainly wouldn't mind getting hold of a few extra shades.
Finally, there's the La Mav Tinted Lip Treatment, which is a lip treatment and lip gloss in one, as it has been made with CoEnzyme Q10, Argan Oil, Vitamin E and Sea Buckthorn Oil to help fight the visible signs of ageing. The treatment feels so soft and moisturising on the lips, all while giving a touch of colour. I really love the fact that it is a multi-tasking product that treats your lips at the same time. I tried the shade, Sheer Pink which is a very pale pastel pink shade - a shade I normally wouldn’t select - but it does give a lovely colour on the lips with a nice sheen. I personally like using it on top of a lipstick for extra moisture and shine.
Overall these products from La Mav are really lovely. The standout for me was without a doubt the BB Cream, which I really love as it is so great for my combination skin, keeping it looking matte all day. But that said, the other products are really lovely, so I can certainly see myself checking out the rest of their makeup range, which also includes powder foundations, bronzers and makeup brushes, as well as an extensive skincare range.

PRODUCT REVIEW: LA MAV MINERAL FOUNDATION AND KABUKI BRUSH

What I Say:
I have previously been avoiding powder foundations, but recently realised that I’ve been missing out. I do find that it takes a little longer to apply than a liquid foundation – or maybe it is just because I have years of experience doing that!
Anyway, the La Mav Mineral foundation claims to be a concealer, foundation, sunscreen and powder all-in-one, and it truly gives a nice medium coverage, covering pigmentation, blemishes and also minimizing the appearance of scarring. And while you can easily build up coverage where you need it with an extra layer, I do however feel that I still need to use a concealer on darker marks as well as to hide bags under my eyes. And on the days I feel I need even more coverage, a thin layer on top of a BB cream works perfectly too.
But even when you build up the coverage, it still gives you a very natural look, and never looks caked on, powdery or dry. It gives the skin a lovely sheen, as it contains just a touch of shimmer. It has a very good staying power, easily lasting all day, even on my combination skin, without settling into fine lines.
However, once I’ve applied it using the La Mav Kabuki brush, I find that it sets nicer with the Skindinavia Makeup Finishing Spray.
I love the fact that the foundation is free from chemicals, and also doesn’t contain any fillers such as talc that can clog up my pores. I also love that it has inbuilt SPF15 and that it is also infused with Vitamin C and Rosehip Oil so it provides anti-ageing benefits and nourishes my skin while I wear it.
I tried the foundation in the medium shade, which works fairly well on my skin, although a slightly lighter shade would have been more ideal now that it is winter and my skin is very pale. However, it will be the perfect shade in just a few months’ time as we head towards spring and summer.
The powder foundation comes in a small round container, and it has a little internal lid which you can spin to reveal the holes that releases the powder, which all means that the amount of powder that is released is controlled so you avoid wastage. The container does at first sight look a little small, but as it is quite concentrated and you seriously use less than you think you would, it goes a long way.
A powder foundation is always best applied using a Kabuki brush that you swirl around the skin to blend the foundation into the ski. The La Mav Kabuki brush is 100% Vegan and Certified Cruelty Free and is made from100% synthetic materials and wood from sustainable forestry.
It has a very high bristle density and is incredibly soft, making it so easy to apply the foundation, as it evenly distributes and blends the powder into the skin. My only negative about the brush is that I would have loved it to come sleeve to protect the bristles if I take it with me in my makeup bag or when travelling. But overall, the brush is of such a high quality that it is a welcome addition to my brush collection!
These are the first makeup products that I’ve tried from La Mav from their range, and I am so impressed that I’m very keen on trying out a few more!

WINTER SKIN CARE FOR THE FACE
During winter when the temperatures drop, my skin reacts but getting so much drier than it usually is. That is sometimes a blessing for those of us with combination skin, as suddenly you do not have the dreaded afternoon shiny face – however, the joy is short lived, and soon the skin gets drier and drier, and often irritated too. So today I’d like to share with you some of the products I use on my face during winter to save it from drying out but rather keep it moisturised and looking healthy.

But before I start, have you been following my series of post with products to care for your skin and hair during the cold winter months? If not you can see the one on winter care for hair or for hands and feet, or maybe the one for the body or what about the one for lip care?
Anyway, here are my selection of winter saviours for the face…
Veet Face Precision Wax & Care*

I don’t have a lot of facial hair. Thank goodness! But do like to keep my eye brows neat, and that’s where the Veet Face Precision Wax & Care comes in handy. It comes in a small dual-ended pen with was in one end, and Soothing Aftercare Cream with aloe vera in the other end. And it is so easy to use, you simply pop the wax end into a cup of just boiled water and leave for a minute before you apply a thin layer to the desired area. You then pop a fabric strip over the wax layer, rub it a few times before you pull it back. And the final step is applying some of the soothing cream which quickly soothes the skin, taking away any redness, leaving the skin soft and moisturised. The wax end has a slanted nozzle which makes it easy to apply precisely, and giving you such a nice result that personally I prefer to do this from the comfort of my own home, and not have to venture out in the cold to salon to get it done – it is quick and easy to do, and I save quite a few dollars on the way too, as there is plenty of product in the pen for approx. 20 uses.

La Mav Cranberry Bio Exfoliating Scrub*

When it’s in the midst of winter and warm summer days seems to be but a faint memory, and the face is looking pale and lifeless, nothing works better than using an exfoliating scrub to rid your skin of dead skin cells to leave your skin looking smooth, healthy and glowing. A great option is the certified organic Cranberry Bio Exfoliating Scrub from La Mav which is perfect for combination and oily skin types such as mine. It is a deep cleansing facial scrub which contains bamboo and ascophyllumnodosum extracts to not only gently buff away dead skin cells, but also deep cleanses your pores from excess oil, surface dirt and impurities, while regulating sebum production and improving circulation, to leave your skin more even toned and luminous.

Another option is the Ultimate Hydra Perfection Gentle Refining Scrub from Racinne. It contains super fine exfoliating beads, yet it so gently and efficiently scrubs away dead skin cells and impurities from the pores to help promote a more glowing a brighter skin. It also contains lemon grass, peach and seaweed extracts which helps promote the skin to renew itself in 28 days and increase its absorption of nutrients and hydration for a more luminous and radiant skin. The ingredients make it smell so lovely and fresh, and as it is so gentle it can be used daily, although just a few times a week is more than sufficient as it is so potent and efficient.

And of course you cannot forget the sensitive skin around the eyes also needing some extra TLC, and generally, eye cream is one of those products that I cannot live without. This eye crème from Pure Fiji contains a botanical blend of cold pressed nut oils, boosted with dilo and beach almond hydrosol, green coconut kinetin and a powerful of anti wrinkle peptide to help smooth fine lines and strengthen the delicate skin around the eyes. The light cream has a lovely delicate scent, and absorbs instantly into the skin, leaving it feel ever so soft and thoroughly hydrated. And it comes in the cutest little frosted glass pump bottle which makes it so easy to dispense and use.

If you’re on a budget this Optiva Radiance Boosting Eye Balm from Boots Laboratories is a great suggestion. It helps to soothe and brighten the delicate area around the eye, which is more vulnerable to puffiness and dark circles as the skin is so thin in this area. The light balm has next to no scent and helps make tired skin look more radiant and healthy looking in a short period of time. It is so easy to spread and absorbs into the skin instantly as it has a quite thin formula, yet it leaves the eye area thoroughly moisturised, and without irritating as it is so gentle. The words ‘maximum moisture’ is for someone with combination skin prone to breakouts enough to make me run away as fast as I can – but no need to worry with this day cream from Elemis. The cream has the consistency of a light fluid absorbing instantly into the skin, and in spite of its light formulation it is so moisturising, containing an adaptive technology that intelligently adjusts to your skin’s needs, leaving my skin moisturised, smooth and soft all day long, - and even though it is so moisturising, it never leaves my skin feeling greasy. This also means that it works perfectly under makeup too.

Ella Bache Paris Spirulines Intensive Wrinkle Smoothing Cream with Spirulina*

The constant change between the cold outside air, and the warmth inside with the heather going, is enough to leave my otherwise combination and slightly greasy skin craving extra moisture. One brilliant suggestion is the Spirulines Intensive Wrinkle Smoothing Cream from Ella Bache. Sometimes not even a very moisturising moisturiser is enough, and you need to reach for a moisture mask to get your skin back to optimum health. I do not have sensitive skin, but a walk with my little boy in the pram in the cold and chilly Melbourne winter weather is enough to leave my cheeks flushed and wind burnt – but as soon as I pop on the Melt Away Mask my skin is instantly soothed and replenished. It is rich in Omega 3 and 6 and helps regulate skin flaking mechanisms, reinforce skin barrier to reduce excess water loss and stimulate cellular regeneration. Left on my skin for just 10-15 minutes and I am left with the softest and most glowing skin.

Sometimes applying moisture to your skin is just not enough, and you need to moisture from within. During summer I haven’t got an issue with drinking lots of water, but in winter when it’s cold, I just tend to forget to drink until I am actually really thirsty, or I reach for a cup of tea instead, neither of which is benefitting my skin, or my overall health for that matter.

I have previously
reviewed Native Boxes, which focuses on healthier products, including food,
household and beauty items. However, there is also a box that focuses solely on

Australian Bush Flower Essences Intensive Evening Rose Hand
Cream – Sample Size 20ml
This organic hand cream contains Australian Bush Flower
Essences and rose stem cells and is an intensive treatment for dry and damaged
hands. I am addicted to hand creams, and my hands always get terribly dry
during winter, so this small size is perfect to keep in my handbag for
emergencies.

Therapeutic Rose Bath Salts – Full Size, 100g
This pack of bath
salts contains sea salts, Epsom salts, rose essential oil, white clay,
sunflower oil and organic rose petals – and even before opening the pack, I can
smell the amazing scent. It has been a while since I had a good salt soak, so I
cannot wait to try this one – and moving house (again) next week, this will be
perfect to help soothe my muscles which will no doubt be sore from moving boxes
around.

Bamboo Multi Purpose Cloth – Full Size
This cloth is made
from 100% bamboo and is perfect for scrubbing your face and body, as well as it
can be used to clean the bathroom – but obviously don’t use it for both!! It
has natural anti-bacterial properties and is soft and gentle on the skin. And best
of all, it can be machine washed, so you can use it again and again. I have to
admit that I do like my mechanical cleansing brush, however, I only use it a
few times a week, and on days that I don’t, this cloth sounds perfect. It is
also perfect when you’re going away, and don’t want to carry too much around.

Body Custard – Full Size, 250ml
This body cream is
certified organic and suitable for even the most sensitive skin and contains
among others shea and cocoa butters, aloe vera, calendula, rose otto and
vitamin E, and what’s even better is that it is completely free from sulphates,
parabens, petrochemicals, phthalates, mineral pils, artificial fragrances and
colours. Thanks to the rose otto, it has the loveliest rose scent that
continues to linger on the skin, and as it very moisturising without leaving
the skin feeling greasy, it will be absolutely perfect to keep my skin subtle
during the cold winter months.

Care You Love Persian Rose Moisturiser – Sachet Sample
This cream from Care You Love promises to deeply hydrate the
skin with a rich calendula infusion and exquisite rose oils. The calendula
infused with cold pressed kernel oil and made in small batches with love! This
sounds amazing, and I am expecting it to smell absolutely divine so I look very
forward to trying it – and I just hope that it is not too rich for my
combination skin, which is quite prone to breakouts!

Rainforest Remedies Lemon Myrtle Lip Balm – Full Size, 5g
This lip balm is made from all natural ingredients including
soothing fruit and nut oil, and lemon myrtle – and as a lover of all things
lemon scented, this smells absolutely amazing. I don’t really have dry lips,
and generally only apply lip balm before bedtime, but during winter I do up it
a little and apply before going for a walk with my baby boy in the pram and my
dogs, and this will be so perfect to keep my lips soft and moisturised.

Refreshed Lemon Myrtle Exfoliating Soap – Sample Size, 40g
Another lemon scented product – so no complaints from me! I
am not the biggest user of soap bars, finding them a little messy so generally
preferring liquid soap. However, it smells so nice and refreshing that this one
definitely won’t go to waste.

Sanctum Hydrating Gel Mask - Sachet Sample
I have heard of Sanctum before, but never tried any of their
products, so I am happy about the inclusion of this gel mask. It is made using
100% natural derived ingredients, including vitamin E and aloe vera. With
combination skin, I generally don’t feel I need hydrating masks, however, but
winter is definitely a time where it would need it more.

Byron Bay Company – Tea samples x 2
These organic herbal teas in calming and energy includes an
fusion of herbs, berries, spices, and vanilla bean to care for your skin and
body from the inside out. Generally I have to admit that I am a coffee drinker,
however, during winter I always have a tea in the afternoon, so these will be
perfect, so I cannot wait to try them out. I have also seen that there are
Detox and Skin varieties available, and I am very keen on looking further into

La Mav Organic Skin Science Antioxidant Rich Nightly Repair
Nectar – Sample Size x 2
This is an anti-ageing serum that helps provide dry skin
with moisture and restore glowing softness. These samples are tiny, but at
least there are two of them so you should be able to use it for a few goes to
see how they perform on your skin. Again, I have combination skin so not sure
how a serum intended for dry skin will go on my skin, but regardless I am
looking forward to testing it out, as I’ve heard a lot of good things about La
Mav.

So there you go, the contents of the November Native box.
As I have mentioned in previous reviews, unfortunately the info sheet doesn’t specify the recommended
retail prices, so it is difficult to say how the box performs in terms of value
for money – however, I feel that this box is so chock full of goodies including
a large full sized body cream that I do find that it is worth its cost.
I also like that
the box contains a great selection of products, including serums,
creams, hand cream, salts, body cream, and ‘beauty tea’ so there is something
for everyone. I guess the only thing that is really is missing is makeup items,
but hopefully future boxes will include those. So all in all I am very
impressed with this box, and look forward to trying out all the products.
