MOTHERS DAY GIFT IDEAS - PART TWO

The other day I started my series of gift ideas for Mother's Day, if you missed the first part, you see it here. Anyway, here's the second part with even more suggestions within electrics, beauty and lifestyle products, so there something for every budget and taste…

She's sure to fall head of heels over this super cool and super girlie bright Oral-B PRO 500 Electric Toothbrush Pink Edition. The Oral-B PRO 500 electric toothbrush has been designed so it is on a slight angle for a better clean of each individual tooth. It has a 3D movement cleaning system that oscillates 7,600 times per minute and pulsates 20,000 times per minute, while it also rotates to break up and remove more plaque, and combined with the round CrossAction toothbrush head, which is inspired by professional cleaning tools, it delivers a clean that is so much better than using a regular manual toothbrush, as it helps lift and clean away more dental plaque as the round brush surrounds each tooth and deep cleanses between the teeth too. In fact, it promises to remove up to 100% more plaque than a regular manual toothbrush.

The toothbrush has a handy two-minute timer which buzzes every seconds so you know when it is time to move onto the next quadrant of your teeth, to ensure that all get a good clean. It also has a very long battery life, lasting up to 7 days on a full charge. It is super light in the hand, and so easy to use, and your teeth feel so clean after each use. It also comes with a charging station, and comes with a 2 year warranty.

Or perhaps you’d like to gift her something a little more intimate, such as these gorgeous bamboo Sensual Boy Leg knickers from Modibodi. They are incredibly soft thanks to the natural fibres, and they not only look very stylish and glamourous, they are so incredibly comfortable to wear that you actually almost forget you've got them on. But what's more, is that they are also very high-tech that they actually double as absorbent underwear too as they feature a 3mm inbuilt panty liner, that offers you better protection than any pair of regular undies and disposable sanitary products, so they help protect you from light bladder leakage, periods etc. this inbuilt panty liner uses moisture-wicking technology to draw sweat and discharge away from the skin, while being leak proof, antibacterial, breathable and stain resistant. And you simply wash them like any other underwear. So how good is that, stylish and comfortable underwear that makes you feel confident and give you peace of mind from leaks, periods, sweat and odour, while making you feel great about yourself too.

Want to give her something that's so practical that she'll absolutely love, then you cannot go past this Hair Towel Wrap from Freestyle. The Hair Towel Wrap, is made from super absorbent microfibre, that helps dry the hair so much faster, and with my very long and thick hair, I can really notice a difference. I also love that you can wrap your hair in the towel and safely secure it with the button - something I really love. I am so fed up trying to wrap my wet hair up in a normal towel while I do my makeup, as it always only stays put for a few moments, and I then end up giving up, and my hair is still dripping wet and subsequent drying takes so much longer. So this towel wrap is really a godsend. And you can simply pop it in the washing machine with the rest of your towels and use again and again. Seriously such a time-saver, and the lavender-pink shade is so gorgeous too. It is available in two sizes, a small for those with shorter hair styles, and large, if you like me have got a lot of hair!

Or what about a Freestyle Detangler Brush, which has flexible bristles that makes it so easy to comb out and detangle your hair whether it is wet or dry, as it glides through the hair smoothly and gently without pulling or dragging the hair, thanks to the epoxy tips, which also helps smooth down the hair and prevent frizz and flyaways. This hairbrush is super lightweight, and has an ergonomic handle too, so it is easy to hold, and it is also heat resistant so you can use it when heat styling it. And because it is so lightweight it is also perfect to pop into your handbag as it wont weigh it down either.

Another suggestion would be some body pampering products from Natural Instinct such as the Uplifting Body Wash with Lemon Grass and Ginko, and the Silky Hydrating Body Lotion with Triple Nourishing Complex. These products from Natural Instinct are not only made in Australia, but they are also made from natural plant ingredients and free from all the chemical nasties including petrochemicals, PEGs, mineral oils, sulphates, silicones, parabens, PABA, and artificial fragrances and colours, as well as they of course have not been tested on animals.

The Natural Instinct Uplifting Body Wash with Lemongrass and Ginseng is an invigorating shower gel. It has added ginko to help regenerate the skin and stimulate circulation breaking down lipids commonly associated with cellulite, while the Vitamin C helps smooth and even the skin tone with antioxidant properties leaving skin feeling soft, supple & youthful, and finally energising lemon grass which stimulates and helps tone the skin leaving it feeling smooth & revitalised. It is so gentle on the skin, leaving it clean without drying out the skin or making it itchy, and it has the most beautiful fresh and zesty scent thanks to the ginseng and the lemon grass, and it is hence the perfect soap to use in the morning when you need a bit of a kick start, and I love that this scent lingers in my bathroom after use, making it smell like a spa!

Pair that with the Natural Instinct Silky Hydrating Body Lotion which contains a triple nourishing complex boosted by among others sweet almond, rosehip and jojoba oils to add intense moisture and nourishment to the skin, leaving it so silky soft and supple. But the ingredients natural also have other purposes, and so the sweet almond oil also helps improve the skin's barrier function, the rosehip oil rich in fatty acids and vitamin c helps heal and has anti-ageing properties, while the jojoba oil has moisturising and protecting properties. In addition it also contains other nourishing ingredients including avocado oil and mango seed butter, as well as lavender oil and chamomile flower extract, which is likely contributing to its slightly floral scent. This body lotion leaves the skin silky soft and so smooth, and is perfect to combat dry winter skin too.

Or what about spoiling her to a few perfume such as the newly launched Calvin Klein Deep Euphoria Eau de Toilette. This perfume is a new version of the Euphoria scent which was launched some years ago. The Deep Euphoria contains among others cascalone, mandarin leaf and white pepper in the top notes, black rose, geranium and jasmine sambac in the middle notes, and in the base notes it has musk, pachouli and woody notes

Deep Euphoria is a fruity rose scent that dries down to a warm floral and very feminine scent. I am not a huge fan of rose scents on their own, finding them somewhat 'old-woman'ish", but that is far from the case with Deep Euphoria.

I find it such a gorgeous scent, as it is neither too spicy, or too sweet, but a beautiful sophisticated scent with just the rose scent lingering. It is 'just' an EDT, but still, I find that it lasts well on the skin, as if I put it on in the morning, I can still detect it at the end of the day, although if I do go out at night again, I do find that a refreshing top-up squirt is nice. It comes sin the most stunning deep dark pinky-purple bottle, which apart from the shade is like the original one, but although it was launched years ago, it is as modern and stunning now as it was then. For me Deep Euphoria is sure to be a autumn and winter favourite.

Regardless of what you decide to gift her, don't forget to include a handwritten personal note, such as in one of the gorgeous Hallmark's Signature Collection Cards, which she'll be sure to love and treasure.

PRODUCT REVIEW: WHITE GLO DEEP STAIN REMOVER ACTIVATED CHARCOAL WHITENING TOOTHPASTE

I love coffee, and I admit that I drink way too much of it. And I guess it is sadly starting to show on the pearly whites, that perhaps are not so white anymore. So when the newest addition to the White Glo range, the new Deep Stain Remover Activated Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste landed on my doorstep, I could wait to start trialling it.

This toothpaste is an advanced extra strength whitening toothpaste that has been made with highly absorbent activated charcoal, which deoxifies to helps whiten enamel by penetrating and drawing out stubborn stains, discolouration, as well as fighting germs, and bad breath odour.

Having slightly sensitive teeth, this did concern me a little, however the toothpaste has a very low abrasive formula that so it is safe for the enamel and gentle too as it has been developed for daily use.

The actual toothpaste is a clear grey shade, and despite what you might thing, it still has a pleasant fresh minty taste, and it froths up white like any other toothpaste.

The toothpaste also comes with a special black and orange White Glo X-Action toothbrush, which has bristles infused with charcoal and the criss-cross action bristles on the brush has been designed to work more effectively with the micro particles in the toothpaste for a better result. The pack also comes with a small bonus pack of little brushes designed to be used between the gap of the teeth.

I admit to generally preferring an electric toothbrush, but was still excited about using the 'manual' brush along with the toothpaste. I didn't really know what to expect from this budget-friendly toothpaste, but having slightly yellow teeth to start with, I was hoping for an improvement. Yes, my teeth did feel very clean and smooth after each use, but usually using a high quality powerful electrical toothbrush I am used to that feeling. However, after just a uses I started noticing my teeth seemed less yellow and so much brighter, and so far I am also pleased to say that the toothpaste hasn’t made my teeth any more sensitive. So overall I am actually enjoying this toothpaste. I admit to missing my electric toothbrush, so I will likely go back using it along with the toothpaste, and regardless hopeful that continued use with continue to keep my teeth stain-free and whiter.

If you're concerned with your teeth staining and yellowing, then I highly recommend you try this new toothpaste from White Glo - At the low bargain price really have nothing to lose.

White Glo Deep Stain Remover Activated Charcoal Whitening Toothpaste - RRP: $5.99 / 150g

PRODUCT REVIEW: PHILIPS SONICARE DIAMONDCLEAN ELECTRIC TOOTHBRUSH ROSE GOLD EDITION

Isn't anything Rose Gold just all the rave at the moment. And I certainly don't deny that I'm in love too. And now you can add a touch of girlie glam to your dental hygiene routine too, as Philips has just launched a new Sonicare DiamondClean Electric Toothbrush Rose Gold edition.

I have used an electric toothbrush for as long as I can remember, but I have to say that this is the best one I've ever used. And not just because of the pretty rose gold.

The toothbrush has a sleek and stylish design, and is perfect for a small female hand. I also love that it has a funky , funky digital display that only illuminates once the power button is turned on.

The actual toothbrush uses sonic technology to produce a powerful dynamic cleaning action with five brushing modes to offer a unique full mouth clean.

The brushing modes include;

  • Clean – the standard mode for a whole mouth clean
  • White – removes surface stains to whiten teeth
  • Polish – brightens and polishes teeth to bring out their natural brilliance
  • Gum Care – gently stimulates and massages gums
  • Sensitive – an extra-gentle mode for sensitive teeth

I have been enjoying using all the modes, except for the sensitive one, but that is only because I do not have sensitive teeth, but otherwise it is certainly a great addition which makes it so much more user-friendly, and suitable for the whole family to use too should you decided to 'share' it. And the combination of brush modes really does mean that your teeth will feel cleaner than ever before, yet while giving the teeth the gentlest brush ever too.

Unlike other electric toothbrushes, the Sonicare DiamondClean Electric Toothbrush charges by being placed in the stylish heavy-duty charging glass. The glass is placed on the rose gold holder which you plug in to the power switch, and it's charging. How cool is that.

And no, Philips has obviously also considered that it is not convenient taking a heavy glass with you if you're travelling, so they have also included a stylish pastel pink travel case that stores the toothbrush holder and actual brush - and this travel case also doubles as a charger, as it also comes with a USB cable and plug, so you can simply plug it into your laptop to charge it up. Not that you really need to, as fully charged, the toothbrush will last up to three weeks between charges!!

I also love that the toothbrush has a set timer so it will stop when the 2 minute recommended brush time is up, and it has a convenient short ‘buzz’ every 30 seconds so you know that it is now time to move on to the next quadrant of your teeth, to ensure that all your teeth get an equally good clean.

The toothbrush is not only extremely stylish looking, but compared to other electric toothbrushes that I've used over the years, it is also very silent too. And it also features some very advanced settings.

Philips claims that the toothbrush removes 7x more plaque than a manual toothbrush and that it helps improve gum health in just 2 weeks. And it comes with unique diamond shaped brushes and help remove and reduce stains 2x better for whiter and brighter teeth.

At just under $300 this toothbrush is not cheap, and possibly one of the more expensive ones on the market, I love that it gives my teeth a better clean than any other electric toothbrush I’ve ever used. It difficult to measure if my teeth are writer and brighter, but the key thing is that they are cleaner and healthier – and if using this toothbrush means that it can maintain the health of my teeth better it will long-term help cut down on my dentist bills, making it totally worth every cent!

Highly recommended - but if you're still not convinced, then you can take advantage of Philips 60-day trial offer, where you can claim your money back if you are not satisfied.

Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Electric Toothbrush Rose Gold edition - RRP: $389.95 (but keep your eyes out for Philips cash back deals!)

Available from The Shaver Shop, Harvey Norman, Myer, David Jones and selected national retailers

XMAS GIFT IDEAS: ELECTRICAL GIFT IDEAS FOR HER

There's something about Electrical Gadgets, and I think we can all agree, that they make life a lot easier these days, so today I have a selection of different electrical Xmas gift ideas for her..

Let's start with the teeth, as you just won't be able to resist this new Rose Gold electrical toothbrush from Philips.

The sonic toothbrush has five cleaning modes, including clean, whitening, polish, gumcare and sensitive, so you can get that custumised clean. It also has unique brushes, to help remove surface stains and keep your teeth brighter and whiter. The toothbrush as a digital display, that lights up when in use, and it gives a quick buzz when it is time to move on to the next quadrant of the teeth, to ensure that all teeth get a good clean, and none are neglected. It is super easy to charge, you simply pop the toothbrush into the included glass, which sits on a rose gold holder, which you can plug into the wall outlet, and when not charging, you can store the toothbrush in the glass. Or you can of course store it in the gorgeous pink travel case, that also doubles as a charger when you're on holidays, as then you simply connect it to your laptop, although you don't really need to, as when fully charged, it has a battery life of up to three weeks! This is a super efficient and sleek toothbrush that is nothing short of amazing - but if you don't like it, no harm done, as it comes with a 60 day money back guarantee!

For the body, what about this Silk-epil 9 SkinSpa from Braun. It's no secret that using an epilator is my all time preferred hair removal, and this new model tops anything I've ever used. The Silk Epil 9 is a 4-in-1 model that works both wet and dry, and it has pulsating active vibrations to stimulate the skin for a more gentle epilation. It also has 40 micro-grip tweezers to catch even more hair, even very short hair as short as 0.5mm, while the head of the shaver rotates to adapt to the body's contours. It also comes with two exfoliation brushes, a blue one for deep exfoliation to help avoid those dreaded ingrown hairs, and a purple exfoliation head for more sensitive areas, and for a more refined and silky soft skin. But that's not all - there's also a standard shaver head, a trimmer cap, a high frequency cap and a sensitive skin contact cap included, a total of 6 extras. The shaver has two speed settings for your personal preference (if you're new to using an epilator, the lower setting may be a little less 'painful", and it takes only 1 hour o fully charge, and then it has up to 40 minutes of battery life, which is more than sufficient to shave both legs. Compare to other epilators I've used over the past decades, I really love that this one is a wet/dry one, as I find it even quicker and easier to use in the shower, not only can I easily wash away all the small hairs, but I also find that the warm shower helps open the pores in my skin, so it is not only quicker to shave, but also less painful. This really is the ultimate shaver for super-soft hair free skin!

For the hair, what about this new Diamond Luxe Straightening Brush from VS Sassoon. This heated ceramic straightening brush straightens your hair as you brush it, all while it detangles it too, and keeps it super smooth and free from frizz thanks to the negative ions that are released as it is used. The bristles in the brush are made from heat activated silicone for additional shine. It also has three heat settings, 180 degrees suitable for fine or short hair, 190 degrees suitable for medium hair types, and 200 degrees for thick, curly or frizzy hair. I like that I can also use this on damp hair, so it saves time first having to dry it, and then straighten it afterwards. And the result is really great, not only is my hair left straight and looking healthy, but brushing it from underneath, it also creates some much needed volume at the same time.

Finally, if she is more into luscious curls, what about the Curl Revolution Styling Tong from Remington. This styler has an automatic rotating ceramic tong to make creating anything from a full head of tight curls to loose waves super quick and simple. You simply rotate it one way to roll up the hair, leave for a few moments to 'heat through' before unwinding it. I like to put a little styling mousse in my hair prior to styling it, both to protect my hair from damage, but also to make the waves last longer in my long and heavy hair. Once the hair has cooled down, I gently toussle it, and then give it a light mist with a flexible hairspray, and you're set to go. The ceramic technology helps ensure that it heats up evenly, with variable heat settings between 120C and 200C to cater for various hair types and styles. It heats up super fast, in just 90 seconds, and I really like that it also automatically shuts off, so no need to worry that you forget to do it.

Product Review: Colgate ProClinical A1500 Electric Toothbrush

I have always been fond of my teeth. Growing up in Denmark, you automatically start seeing a dentist when you are very young, and from then on you always get check-ups every 6 months. And the best part of this is that it is free – completely free until you turn 18 years old, and even after that it is subsidised by the government. So I’ve grown up caring for my teeth every day. And pretty much as soon as the electric toothbrushes hit the market, I just had to have one. And now, years – sorry decades on, I have lost count of how many electric toothbrushes I’ve owned. They simply get better and better and more and more advanced, and as my teeth are so important to me, I always strive to have the latest and greatest brush, so when I was asked to review the *Colgate ProClinical A1500 Electric Toothbrush, I naturally happily accepted. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
"Colgate® ProClinical® A1500 is an electric toothbrush that automatically adjusts to the different tooth surfaces at the push of a button*. With unique smart sensors, the Colgate® ProClinical® provides targeted cleaning action based on the position it is held in the mouth. Its ergonomic handle and angled neck also allow users to reach caries-prone areas."

RRP: A1500 Toothbrush: $199.95, Toothbrush refills: $16.95/2pack, $29.95/4pack – Available from leading retailers including the Shaver Shop, Big W and Chemist Warehouse

What I Say:

For the past month I’ve been using the Colgate ProClinical A1500 Electric Toothbrush, and I have noticed a big difference in how clean my teeth have been feeling in that period. And the other day I went to the dentist for a check-up, and he commented too on how clean my teeth were, and that I appeared to have significantly less plaque than I usually do! Instant bonus points to Colgate!

And here I was thinking that my current electrical toothbrush was amazing, being top of the range and less than a year old! How wrong was I!

Everything included with the brush; toothbrush, charger,
stand, brush heads, travel case and instruction manual

The Colgate ProClinical A1500 toothbrush I a partnership between Colgate and OMRON, a worldwide leader in innovative sensing and control technology. This unique partnership combines OMRON technology, with the oral care expertise of Colgate, this new toothbrush claims to be able to provide five times more plaque removal along the gumline – and going by the comment from my dentist, this claim seems to hold true!

The toothbrush features a distinct sonic wave cleaning action that delivers up to 32,500 strokes per minute to effectively remove plaque – 32,500 strokes per minute – that’s massive isn’t it – try doing that with a manual brush!!!

Other features of the A1500 toothbrush includes:
  • Smart Sensors to automatically adjust the speed and cleaning action of the electric toothbrush head depending on how the brush is held in the mouth, switching between between sensitive side-to-side strokes, mid-speed in-out strokes, fast up-down strokes

  • Manual Mode Selection

  • LED Display
  • 2 Minute Timer for optimal cleansing time
  • 30 Second Pacer to indicate when to move onto the next quadrant or section of the mouth
  • Polished teeth
  • Interdental Clean
  • Also includes 2 x Triple Clean brush heads, which cleans in 3 ways, and Sensitive brush head, for gentle and deep cleaning, and a travel case

  • Comes with a 2 year warranty

The A1500 toothbrush charges up fast – oh, and don’t forget to let me mention that it already comes pre-charged so you can start to use it straight away. Thanks Colgate, you must have listened – as how frustrating is it to get a new toy, only to have to wait 24 hours while it charges! And the battery life is long too, so you don’t have to re-charge very often.

This toothbrush is so different to all other electrical toothbrushes that I’ve used over the past few decades, as these have always only had rotating brush movements, and this A1500 brush cleans in three ways, side-to-side strokes, mid-speed in-out strokes, fast up-down, - and I really like that it automatically adjust the speed and cleaning mode to ensure my teeth get the best possible clean.

The travel case with enough room for
the toothbrush and two brushes

And in spite of all the action and movement, the toothbrush is incredibly sensitive, at no point irritating my mouth of my gums.

Compared to other electric toothbrushes that I’ve used, the brush head is a little different – usually they are round, but this one is more like a mini version of a manual toothbrush – and I like that, as it makes it easier to get to the back of the mouth that is otherwise hard to reach.

The ergonomically slimline design of the brush

And speaking of making it easy to reach, I love the lightweight slimline ergonomic design of the A1500 toothbrush, it is so slender and sits perfectly in my little hand, and the angled toothbrush part, does help make it so much easier to reach into the back of your mouth.

Comes with three brush heads, 2 x Triple Clean Brush Heads,
and 1 x Sensitive Brush Head

On the negative, I do feel that the A1500 toothbrush is a little noisy, as it has a rather loud high-pitch buzzing sound, and do wish that it would be a little quieter.

And while I am aware that the auto-shut off is designed so you don’t over-brush your teeth, I at times feel that I am not quite finished and just need a few extra seconds, so I would prefer to be able to turn it off manually myself.

Packaged neatly in the box

Finally, in regards to the on-off button, this is a little too sensitive for my clumsy fingers, and I really have to be careful not to turn it off in the middle of a brush.

What I Like:
  • Cleans my teeth so extremely well – to the point of my dentist noticing it
  • Is very gentle in spite of the speed and cleaning actions
  • Nice ergonomic design that sits nicely in my small hand and is easy to use
  • Multiple cleaning functions to suit need and personal preference

What I Don’t Like
  • A little noisy due to a high-pitch sound
  • Easy to accidentally turn it off during use
  • The toothbrush holder has little 'spikes' to hold two brushes, but I would prefer if brushes there was a little compartment where they could be stored, out of the 'elements'
  • A little expensive

Phew, that was a long post - thanks for keep reading - there were just so many fantastic features about this toothbrush that I wanted to share!
And overall, I think it is needless to say that my old toothbrush has now been packed away and replaced with the Colgate A1500 toothbrush, as I simply feel it is doing my teeth a world of good. It may be a little expensive at $199, but when you consider the cost of getting your teeth repaired (if you can!) if you don’t look after them, or even getting them cleaned professionally by a hygienist, then it is in my opinion, money very well spent, and in fact, it will end up not only saving you money long term, but it will also keep your teeth looking nicer and being healthier for longer! If you are on the lookout for a new toothbrush, or simply want to start looking after your teeth a little better, then I highly recommend that you try it, you won’t be disappointed.
