PRODUCT REVIEW: NOTOX SUPERFOOD SNACK BOX - JULY 2014

It has only been just over a week since the June box arrived, so imagine my surprise when the Notox Superfood Snack Box showed up yesterday. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
If you're new to healthy living, want to find non-toxic products, or are overwhelmed by the choices available, this is the box for you!  We hand pick a range of the best natural, clean living products and pack them up in a surprise box for you to enjoy each month.   It has a little bit of everything!

The box contains 5- 8 products including in a mix of full sized, travel and sample size products
All products are natural, organic, ecofriendly or ethical, organic food, health food or super-foods, natural and organic skincare and beauty products, wellness, eco home or healthy lifestyle products.

RRP: $28.95 per box – Available from Notox Box

What I Say:
As always this month’s box arrived in a bright green postage box with a lot of ‘feel good’ little sentences on the lid, such as ‘Love what you do’, Stay healthy & happy’. ‘Dream big’, and ‘Define your own success’ and these are the goodies I found inside;

CrioBru Brewed Cocoa 100% Roasted & Ground Cocoa Beans – Full Size, 340g

When I first saw this pack I thought it was a pack of coffee, so being huge coffee drinkers I got quite excited, also as I saw that it is for use in a drip coffee maker. But after a second look at the pack I realised that it was in fact made from cocoa beans and not coffee beans. The beans brews like coffee and has flavour notes of green banana and blackberries, and are chock full of antioxidants and magnesium, to help boost your immune system and increase your energy (which I desperately need), and support your heart, brain and bones. It also contains chromium and zinc to help maintain healthy blood sugar levels (maybe it will actually help stop my afternoon sugar cravings). One cup contains just 10 calories, and absolutely no sugar or fat. I don’t think I would have picked this up in the shop myself, but I am quite excited to try it out.

Peeled Snacks Apple Clusters – Full Size, 18g

These are bite-sized organic apple pieces and berries rolled in clusters, and just the type of snack that I love. They give you a full serving of fruit, yet with no refined sugar, no fat, and no preservatives. I can’t wait to taste these..

Brookfarm Muesli Bar baked with macadamias and cranberries – Full Size, 35g

This muesli bar is made from all natural ingredients including whole grains, dried fruit, macadamias and seeds. I love muesli bars and always find it handy to have one in my handbag (or should I say nappy bag) for those days where I’ve been up extremely early to feed our little boy that I feel like I need a second serve of breakfast before lunch. And I love macadamias so I already know that I’ll love this bar.

Coconut Magic Pure Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – Sample Size, 20ml

I think I may be a touch behind the times, but I have actually never tried coconut oil. Not really sure why as it is said to be extremely healthy for you. I think it may be because I don’t really like the smell of coconut (oh why does it always seem to be used in sunscreen lotions!). This certified organic, unrefined, and cold pressed raw coconut oil can supposedly be eaten straight out of the jar, or of course be used for cooking, but can also be used as a lip balm or body moisturiser. A true multi-tasking product.

Wallaby Superfoodie Breakfast & Nut Slice – Full Size, 48g

Another breakfast bar which will come in handy when I’ve got the cravings and feeling a little tired (may just be a little later today with my little boy deciding to wake up at 4.30pm, and unable to get him back to sleep!). It is made from raw ingredients including almond, cashews, raspberries and apples – sounds so delicious. YUM.

COCOLA Premium Organic Fairtrade Milk Chocolate – Full Size, 100g

YAY. A block of chocolate. How could you not love this. I admit that I prefer dark chocolate, but a good block of milk chocolate will never go astray in our house. And this block is made from 100% organic ingredients so it is pure and chemical free, and doesn’t contain any preservatives either. And as a bonus it is Fairtrade product, ensuring that all cocoa growers have been looked after in producing the cocoa beans. This chocolate bar won’t survive long in our house, especially seeing I won’t be able to hide this one from my husband.

So there you have it, the contents in the July Superfood Snack Notox box.

I love the idea behind this superfood snack box that contains a variety of chocolate, cocoa beans, and snack bars, and hence it is quite different from standard Notox Box, which also contained some food products and other lifestyle and household products. I always snack during the day, especially when I am running low on energy, which seems to be all the time these days, so I love to be introduced to new and healthier options, and yet again, Notox Box has managed to introduce me to some new brands and products that I would otherwise probably not come across, and I am quite excited to try out every single product. As soon as I’ve got some photos taken of all the products, I’m digging in….

PRODUCT REVIEW: NOTOX BOX JUNE 2014

Today I’d like to share with you my thoughts on the *June edition of the Notox Box;

RRP: $25 per box – Available from Notox Box

What I Say:
I really like the idea of exploring healthier option within both beauty, food, health and home, so I really like the concept of the Notox box where I get introduced to so many new healthier options. If you haven’t seen my review of the May Notox Box, you can see it here.

This month’s box arrived in a bright green postage box with a lot of ‘feel good’ little sentences on the lid, such as ‘Love what you do’, Stay healthy & happy’. ‘Dream big’, and ‘Define your own success’, and as always it was full to the rim, and quite heavy too, and these are the goodies I found inside;

Slendier Konjac Lasagne Sheets – Full Size

We eat lasagne all the time. At least once a week, and especially now that our little boy is starting to eat ‘normal’ food, as lasagne is one of his favourites, and it saves me having to cook a meal for us and another one for him. These lasagne sheets are made from konjac root, which is high in fibre and low in fat, as well they have reduced carbs, are low calorie and gluten free. I have never tried konjac before, and I am not quite sure about these. They are a completely different texture to normal pasta sheets, as they are kind of like a large noodle. I love my traditional Italian lasagne with pasta lasagne sheets, but still being quite adventurous with what I eat, I will certainly give them a go. I am not particularly trying to lose weight, but on the other hand, eating less calories, could mean having a few spare ones for some more fun things (=chocolate ;-)

Brookfarm Toasted Macadamia Muesli – Sample 75g

I love muesli, and if I don’t eat muesli for breakfast I eat porridge, or plain old oats that where I add raisins and fresh fruits to myself. And if I have sweets cravings in the afternoons, and I have a good muesli in the pantry I often snack on it. This muesli contains no preservatives, and is using sun ripened macadamia nuts, grains, bran, currants and sultanas and cranberries all roasted in Australian bush honey. Yum. I cannot wait to taste this.

Vital Organic Vanilla Rooibos Tea – Full Size/10 tea bags

I have to be honest and admit that I prefer coffee to tea, but I only drink it in the morning in trying to cut down a little. But in winter when it is cold, I do tend to have a cup of tea in the afternoon, although I generally tend to drink peppermint tea or a lemon tea, this will be a nice change, and I like that is naturally caffeine free, and is high in antioxidants and great for headaches, so I wish I’d had this last week when I had a major headache. I have never heard of Vital tea before so it will also be nice to try out this brand.

Herbal Fresh Hands Hand Santiser – Sample size, 50ml

The only time I use a hand sanitiser is when I’ve had to change my little boys nappy and there is no soap and water nearby, such as when you have to do an emergency stop by the side of the road and make a quick nappy change, then a sanitiser definitely comes in hand. And I like that this one is all natural and not full of chemicals. It uses alcohol to disinfect and apart from that only contains purified water, gelling agent and olive leaf extract, which is also a nice change from the usual products with a long list of ingredients you usually cannot pronounce let alone know what is. only has 4 ingredients, none of which are hard to pronounce. So this one is going into my nappy bag as soon as I’ve used up the current one.

Absolute Organic Chocolate with Quinoa Flakes – Full size, 100g

This chocolate bar was on top when I opened the box, and really made my day. I prefer dark bitter chocolate, so this organic 70% cocoa chocolate bar, is right up my alley. I’ve never tasted chocolate with quinoa before, and doubt that I would have bought this myself, but it is actually surprisingly nice with the crunch, so a pleasant surprise. And I love too that this bar doesn’t have any nasties included – but unfortunately I guess I’d better share it with my husband.

Chic Nuts Roasted Chickpeas – snack size, 25g

I am not sure I would have bought this myself, but these are really nice. They are made of whole roasted chickpeas seasoned with sea salt and garlic, and as they are high in protein they are a healthy snack when you’re a little peckish. So nice with a healthy alternative, and a refreshing change from the nuts I usually snack on, so will definitely purchase these again in the future.

So there you go, the contents on this month’s Notox box.

And yet again the box has managed to introduce me to some new brands and healthy food options, which being a little conservative with the food I buy at the supermarket I might never have even seen, so I look forward to testing out every single one of them (ups, the chickpeas kinda disappeared as I was writing this..

PRODUCT REVIEW: NOTOX BOX MAY 2014

Monthly subscription boxes are very popular these days, containing anything from beauty products only, to accessories, and healthy products. Today I’d like to share with you my thoughts on the *May edition of the Notox Box;

What They Say:
If you're new to healthy living, want to find non-toxic products, or are overwhelmed by the choices available, this is the box for you!  We hand pick a range of the best natural, clean living products and pack them up in a surprise box for you to enjoy each month.   It has a little bit of everything!

The box contains 5- 8 products including in a mix of full sized, travel and sample size products. All products are natural, organic, ecofriendly or ethical, organic food, health food or super-foods, natural and organic skincare and beauty products, wellness, eco home or healthy lifestyle products.

RRP: $25 per box – Available from Notox Box

What I Say:
I like the idea of exploring healthier option within both beauty, food, health and home, so I was quite excited when I was asked to trial a Notox box, although I have to be quite honest and admit that I’d never heard of the boxes before, I didn’t really know what to expect.

The box arrived in a standard brown postage box, with no inner box, but really I don’t mind, as I have heaps of those floating around from other beauty subscription boxes.

The box was full to the rim, and quite heavy too, and this is what was inside;

Forbidden Green Rice – Full Size (500g)

I am quite excited about this rice, which is made from organic brown rice infused with bamboo juise to give it a subtle green tea flavour and nutty texture. I have never had anything like it, but eat a lot of rice, so I cannot wait to put this one to the test.

From Japan Organic Green Pea Chips – Full Size (45g)

I’ve never tried pea chips before, but I love the fact that they are high in protein and low in fat too, and they can be can be enjoyed with hummus, dips or salsa- I look forward to trying them out.

Simply Raw Protein Bite – sample size

This mini bar is made with pea protein and the world’s most potent antioxidant fruit, maqui berry, and it is energising and super high in proteins – just what I need when I need an energy fix in the afternoon when I’ve been up numerous times during the night to soothe our little teething boy!

Soothie Foot Bath  - Sample Size

I have to be honest and admit that with a baby, there is not a lot of time to pamper yourself, and one of the things most neglected is my feet – so these magnesium bath flakes that help sore tired and swollen feet are well received – I love a foot bath, and is in high need of one, now I just need to find the time where I can relax!

Australian Bush Flower Essence Hand Cream – Sample Size – 2 x 20ml

I was only expecting to receive one sample tube, so I was pleasantly surprised that there was actually two tubes in the box – one with Evening Rose and one with Citrus Dunamis. These thick creams are intensive creams suitable for soothe and revitalise dry or chapped skin – and they both smell gorgeous and so natural thanks to the natural essences used. I like both, but the citrus one is my favourite as I just cannot go past a good refreshing and zesty scent. And I love hand creams, and have a tube everywhere, from my car, bedside table, handbag, you name it, I always have a hand cream within reach, so these two are a welcome addition!

Probiotic Solutions Cleaning Mop Me Floor Cleaner – Sample Size (50ml)
This is a cleaner made using healthy probiotic bacteria made using food grade ingredients with antioxidants, vitamins and essential oils… hhmmmmm, I never knew my floors needed vitamins! In saying that, I do love the fact that this cleaner is chemical free, especially seeing my 11 month old boy is crawling around on the floor. And it contains among others pink grapefruit and tea tree, which makes it smell fantastic.

The info card only mentions the one product from Probiotic Solutions, but the box also included two more samples from them;

Bathroom Bliss – Sample Size (50ml)
Yet again I love that these products are chemical free, and this one contains zesty ingredients from lemongrass, pink grapefruit and lemon myrtle, which I really like as they just smell so refreshing and clean, so I may actually be enjoying cleaning my bathroom!!

Anytime Anywhere All Purpose Cleaner – Sample Size (50ml)
This All Purpose cleaner also contains lemongrass, pink grapefruit and lemon myrtle, which I am far from complaining about, citrus scents are my favourite, after all. And this little spray bottle has already had a good workout cleaning my little boys table on the highchair, and it has moved into my nappy bag, as the little spray bottle is so handy to have at hand when we are out and about for cleaning highchairs both before use to get rid of any dirt and bacteria, as well as after use to clean up all his mess!

So there you go, the contents on this month’s Notox box.

So what did I think of it…. Was it worth the $25…. In spite of the box being full and heavy, the only full sized products were the rice and the pea chips, neither of which I cannot imagine having a high recommended retail price –and unfortunately the enclosed flyer does not include prices. However, the box contained quite a few deluxe sized samples, including two hand creams, three cleaners, a food bath and a snack bar, which is quite generous, and certainly helps to justify the cost.

And as the box also introduced me to a quite a few different products and brands – actually every single one of them was new to me, I do find it is quite a good way of getting to know and explore new products, and I look forward to testing out every single one of them – so no wastage there either! So if you too are interested in more natural products, then I highly recommend you try out the Notox box, you won’t be disappointed!
