THE BEST ANTI-AGEING HAND CREAMS FOR SOFT YOUTHFUL HANDS

They say hands are one of the first areas to show age. And no wonder, they are always exposed to the environments, be it cold winds during winter or the harsh sun during summer. So today I'll talk about some of my favourite anti-ageing hand creams.

First up there's the Clarins Age Control Hand Lotion SPF15 is a gorgeous lightweight cream that absorbs into the hands instantly, without any need to massage it in. It leaves the hands feeling lovely and soft and with a powdery satin feel, and without feeling greasy or sticky as it is also non-oily. It contains a variety of plant extracts, and promises to help prevent age spits from forming, while brightening existing age spots and promote a more even and younger looking tone, as well as condition the nails. Generally I feel that this cream has made my hands look lightly more even-toned, and my nails, including cuticles are no longer feeling as dry, having clearly benefited from the daily use of this lotion.

The cream also has an amazing subtle floral scent, which also lingers on the hands for long after the cream has absorbed into the hands, and I also love that it has added SPF to protect from further sun damage.

Then there's the Medik8 Hydr8™ B5 Hand Cream SPF15, which is a is a thicker and richer hand cream, which also absorbs without any greasiness, although it does take a few moments longer than the Clarins. But the wait is worth it, as it leaves the hands feeling super moisturised, with an invisible film on the surface of the skin to neutralise pollutants and prevent them from being absorbed into the epidermis, while also shielding the skin against other irritants such as carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide from industrial fumes and car emissions, along with particles from i.e. cigarette smoke, and thereby deminishing pollution-caused ageing effects such as redness, irritation and dull, devitalised skin.

The cream also contains ingredients to add intense moisture to he skin to nourish, help with moisture retention and help heal and plump the skin. It has quickly helped save my dry hands, leaving them so soft and smooth. I also love that this one also comes with SPF15, and that it has the most divine citrus scent.

Next there's the Dr. Hauschka Regenerating Hand Cream, which is loaded with rich oils and waxes to offer the skin intensive nourishment and protection, while stimulating the skin's moisture activating ability, supporting the skin's strength and elasticity as well as natural resilience, and regenerating ageing skin. The rich ingredients does meant hat this intense cream takes a few moments to absorb, but it leaves even the driest of hands feeling silky soft and smooth for hours.

I love that it comes in an easy to use pump bottle, and that it is made using natural and organic ingredients, certified to NATRUE standards, as well as free from all the nasty chemical ingredients including synthetic fragrances, dyes, preservatives, mineral oils, parabens, silicones, phthalates, PEGs etc. It has a lovely, slightly spicy scent, from the natural ingredients including red clover.

Then there there's the Dr. Lewinn's Essentials Hand & Nail Cream is another incredible anti-ageing hand cream. It contains among others aloe, and multi vitamins including A, B and E, and it helps add intense moisture and nourishment to the hands, and leave them with protected from damage by creating an invisible protection layer on the skin. The cream is very rich, yet absorbs quickly and easily into the hands and leaves them so much softer and smoother. And after just a short time, it leaves the hands not only soft, smooth and thoroughly hydrated, and hence healthier and younger too. And all while caring and improving your nails and cuticles at the same time.

Finally, there's the Organic Island Body Nourishing Hand Cream, which is a certified organic Australian brand. And of course it is also free from all the chemicals including sulphates, silicones, synthetic colours and fragrances, parabens, petrochemicals, preservatives, mineral oils etc. Rather, this anti-ageing hand cream is made with advanced active natural ingredients including lychii berry, olive leave, rosehip, avocado, shea butter, vitamin E and macadamia. The cream promises to help heal , nourish, hydrate and protect the hands from environmental stress, while improving the texture of the skin, and transforming tired and dry skin into renewed, soft and subtle hands with a more youthful appearance. The cream is lightweight, and absorbs into the skin after a few moments, immediately leaving the hands feeling so incredibly silky soft and with a lovely sheen. It has a lovely natural floral scent, which you can only love. It doesn't get much better than certified organic anti-ageing!!

So there you go, a selection of amazing anti-ageing hand creams for different budgets too.

MOTHERS DAY GIFT IDEAS - PART THREE

Today I am continuing with my Mother's Day gift ideas, which I hope you enjoy and feel make it a little easier to pick that special gift for Mum. If you've missed the previous parts, you can see Part One, and Part Two

It may be on the brink of Winter here in Australia, but who doesn't want to hang onto the feeling of summer for a tad longer. And with this Summer candle from Sydney Fragrance she can do just that.

The Sydney Fragrance candles have been hand made in Australia with the aim to represents the many facets of Sydney style, and this particular Summer candle has been inspired by Sydney's beachside summer with a mojito with a twist of lemon in the hand, vanilla scented in the house, and a bouquet of fresh cut orchids in a vase. This premium and luxury candle is made in a high quality glass with a black timber lid, and with the highest quality soy-blended wax and with the best of fragrances including among others lime, pineapple, lemongrass, apple, white jasmine, mush and vanilla. The soy contents means that the candle will burn cleaner and better, and not cover your walls (and even worse, your insides!!), with black smoke, so its much better and healthier for you too.

The huge candle, not only looks stunning, it will instantly fill your home with the most gorgeous fresh floral and zesty scent that will take you right back to summer, even on a cold winter's night, and burn for a massive 80 hours.

Another suggestion would be some premium skincare from Gensen Japan, such as the Sun Age Control Day & Night Repair Serum, and the Sun Age Control Day & Night Revitalising Moisturiser.

These Japanese products are made with Onsen water from Japanese Hot Spring Waters which originate deep in the volanic earth, as these waters are rich in minerals and iodine, which have skin healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-infection, restoring, and rejuvenating properties. As well as the products contain Plat Ceria, which is a non-greasy base that helps protect the skin from UV rays. The Gensen Japan Sun Age Control Day & Night Repair Serum aims to penetrate deep into the layers of the skin to help hydrate, while protect the skin, as well as it helps restore and rejuvenate the skin at night, to help prevent and reverse skin ageing for a combined more luminous and younger looking skin, promising to also smooth fine lines, repair past sun damage, regenerates ageing skin, accelerate skin renewal, which providing hydration to the skin. This serum is so light and gorgeous that it absorbs immediately into the skin, and in spite of its intense moisture, it leaves the skin soft and smooth and silky soft.

The Gensen Japan Sun Age Control Day & Night Revitalising Moisturiser, is a very light, almost gel-like consistency, which absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it soft and smooth, and with a velvety matte finish. It is the perfect moisturiser to use under my makeup, making it say looking nicer all day. It helps lock in moisture into the skin, repair the skin and promote skin renewal, and all while giving the skin a soft and healthy glow. Combined these two products are perfect for anyone concerned with fighting the signs of ageing, and because the products are so gentle they are also suitable for sensitive skin, and their light and non-greasiness makes them perfect for greasier skin types too.

What about spoiling her to this gorgeous Essential Gems Gift Pack from Dr LeWinn's, which contains a Sensitive Cleansing Milk and Hand & Nail Cream.

The Sensitive Cleansing Milk is a mild cleansing lotion is designed for sensitive skin, and contains among others sweet almond protein to regenerate and moisturise the skin, as well as aloe and orchid extract and white tea to soothe and soften the skin, all while being free from common skin irritants such as parabens and sulphates. The cleansing milk comes in a stunning white pump bottle and it has the most divine floral scent. And it quickly and easily removes all traces of makeup, and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.

The Hand and Nail Cream is a long time favourite of mine as it is truly incredible. It contains among others aloe, and multi vitamins including A, B and E and it helps add intense moisture and nourishment to the hands, and leave them with protected from damage by creating an invisible protection layer on the skin. The rich cream absorbs quickly and easily into the hands and leaves them so much softer and smoother, and younger looking too, and continued use, will also help improve the condition of nails and cuticles leaving them looking so much healthier too.

The products come packaged in the most gorgeous and so useful silver cosmetics bag, and it is such great value too as you literally get the hand cream and cosmetics bag for free!

Well, if you're considering giving her a gift, then she must be a mum - and hence having undergone a pregnancy and probably breastfeeding, would probably mean that her boobs are not as perky as they once were - so what about bust lift in a tube - by giving her a tube of Alpha Keri Body Slimfit Bust Lift and Firm Cream. Used twice a day, this cream promises to help improve breast filling and shaping and create lifting and push-up effect by up to 5mm in 4 weeks. The cream contains among others African “Tree of Life” which help tighten the skin and improve shape, as well as marine collagen lipid-filler microsphere technology that helps plump up the breast. The cream has a gorgeous fragrance, and it is easy to get into the habit of massaging it into the breast and décolleté, and after using for a few weeks, I have to admit that it can be difficult to say exactly to what extent it has actually lifted my breasts which have been through two pregnancies and two rounds of breastfeeding - however, I have definitely noticed that the my skin is not only looking softer and smoother, and more plumb too, but small lines also appear to have mininised somewhat, as well as the skin in general looks more youthful and glowing. So definitely worth a try, I know I’ll be using this as a part of my body skincare regimen from now on.

If she's into makeup, then why not gift her one of Real Techniques's Bold Metals Collection's newest products, the Miracle Diamond Sponge. This new makeup sponge is designed to make achieving a flawless look even easier. Unlike a beauty blender sponge, this one, as the name suggests, is shaped like a sponge, and has a unique white and grey marble swirly design.

With this Miracle Diamond Sponge you can use the larger flat sides to apply makeup and buff and blend larger areas of the face, and the smaller sides for better and more precise contouring on areas such as eyes, mouth and brows. The pointed tip is great to use for covering small imperfection such as blemishes, or in the corners of the eyes. As with any other makeup sponge, it can used dry for a full coverage, or damp for a more dewy look. The new shape does take a little getting used to, but it is such a great tool, and I personally really like how good it is at working on smaller areas thanks to the pointy tip.

If you really want to spoil her, then this stunning Volante Silver Watch from Klasse 14 is sure to make her happy. The beautiful watch has a 36mm stainless steel face, with, and features an applied index dial, with a Quartz analog movement - and with its sleek silver mesh band it is simple and simply stunning - like a piece of classic and timeless jewellery, that will never go out of fashion.

This watch is the essence of style and quality, and will look incredible regardless if she is wearing casual clothes or dressed up to go out.

Product Review: Dr LeWinn's Line Smoothing Complex S8 Eye Recovery Complex

Unfortunately I am at the age where lines and wrinkles are creeping in, and have realised that using a good eye cream is an absolute necessity. I was consequently very excited when I was asked to trial *Dr LeWinn's Line Smoothing Complex S8 Eye Recovery Complex. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:

"Suitable for all skin types. Dr LeWinn's Line Smoothing Complex S8 Eye Recovery Complex aids in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles around the delicate eye area. Active ingredients include SNAP-8 technology, acetyl hexapeptide-3, aloe vera gel to soothe and calm the skin, co-enzyme Q10 for skin firmness and sodium hyaluronate to assist in hydration. Use twice daily".

RRP: $69.95 (15g) – Available from Priceline, Myer, David Jones and select Pharmacies

What I Say:
I recently trialled the Dr Lewinn's Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream, and absolutely loved the luxurious cream as it proved so efficient in a very short time, so needless to say that I also had very high hopes and expectations for the eye cream.

The Line Smoothing Complex S8 Eye Recovery Complex claims to;
  • Reduce the appearance of expression lines and wrinkles around the eyes.
  • Be brightening and lightening and simulate the development of collagen synthesis.
  • Alternative to painful Botox® injections.
  • Provide intense and continuous hydration.
  • Be nourishing and repairing.
The Eye Recovery Complex is infused with Snap-8, which is an alternative to "painful injections" and is potently reducing lines and wrinkles. It is also containing caviar extract, which is very nourishing and help minimise the visual signs of ageing, and provide continuous hydration throughout the day.

The cream has a subtle and gentle scent. You can smell the caviar but it's not unpleasant, and it quickly fades once absorbed into the skin.

As soon as I put tried the Eye Recovery Complex, I noticed how amazing and refreshing it felt on the skin. Light and silky, yet so hydrating without being too greasy. It just glides onto the skin and absorbs instantly and leaves my skin feeling soft and without any greasy or oily feeling at all.

The eye cream comes in a plastic pump with gold lid and base, which makes it look very luxurious. And just one tiny pump is more than sufficient for both eyes, as the gel-like cream is so concentrated and spreads so easily. And it works perfectly under makeup as well, preventing the makeup from settling into the fine lines and wrinkles.

As I think I’ve mentioned numerous times before, I really like creams that come in pump bottles as it is just so much more hygienic than constantly sticking your fingers into a jar. In saying that, products in pump bottles can at times be difficult to completely empty, but only time will tell how this cream will fare.

So did the cream live up to its big claims? After having used the eye cream for a few weeks, both morning and night, I have to say that the area around my eyes is very hydrated and looks plumbed up and fine lines and wrinkles do appear to be slightly less noticeable. The puffiness around my eyes also seem to have reduced a little, although it is still there – which I however also expected as being 30 weeks pregnant I seem to have more and more sleepless nights! And I have quite sensitive eyes that easily get irritated and water, but the eye cream at all times felt comfortable to use, and never irritated my sensitive eyes.

Dr LeWinn's claims that the eye cream is an alternative to Botox, and while I have never had Botox so am hence unable to compare the results – I do have thought that Botox would give you far more dramatic results than this eye cream has yet delivered.

But in saying that, I have no intentions of having Botox at this stage, and I do not believe that you can completely reverse the signs of ageing, and this eye cream has in just a few short weeks managed to at least show some results  - so with continued and long-term use, I would expect to see further results.

As with the day cream, my only criticism of the eye cream is that it does not contain any SPF, which is so necessary under the harsh Australian Sun!

At $69.95 the eye cream is a little pricey for just 15g, however, I have thoroughly enjoyed using it as it is such a luxurious cream, which feels fantastic on the skin. So if you can afford the splurge,  I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too!

Product Review: Dr Lewinn's Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream

Unfortunately I have hit the age where anti-ageing is starting to be a primary skin concern. As we all know, drinking lots of water, eating and being healthy and using sunscreen daily are all important things you can do in order to prevent ageing, but sadly not enough on their own – good anti-ageing skincare is also required, so I am forever o on the hunt for effective products. Here are my thoughts on Dr Lewinn's Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream;

What They Say:
Dr Lewinn’s Private Formula Line Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream is an anti-ageing treatment moisturiser to help reduce visual signs of ageing and keep skin hydrated throughout the day. Suitable for all skin types, it contains Caviar Extract to nourish and stimulate skin as well as Hydro-boost Micropatch with Aqualance to provide continuous hydration through its slow release system. It also contains anti-wrinkle peptide Snap-8 and Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer.

RRP: $89.95 (30g) – Available from Priceline, Myer, David Jones, and select pharmacies

What I Say:
In spite of being at the age where I need to use an anti-ageing cream, having combination skin prone to breakouts, always makes me worry when try an new cream, as often they are simply too heavy and concentrated, and leave my skin feel greasy and congested. So it was with a little fear that I started using the Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream.

The Smoothing Complex S8 Hydrating Day Cream claims to:
  • Provides intense and continuous hydration
  • Be nourishing and repairing
  • Reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • Alternative to Botox®

My first impressions of the cream, is that it feels amazing on the skin. It is so light and silky that it doesn’t feel like you are drowning the skin in it, yet it feels so hydrating. It just glides onto the skin and absorbs instantly and leaves my skin feeling soft and without any greasy or oily feeling at all.

The cream comes in a plastic jar with gold lid and purple top, which makes it look very luxurious. It has an impressive dispenser system, where you have to press down on both sides of the pump lid and the cream pops out on top. And just one small pump is needed, as the cream is so concentrated.

I really like this feature as it not only helps you get just the amount of cream you need without wasting any, but as the dispenser has an airlock system, it also prevents bacteria from intruding onto your cream, keeping it fresh for longer.

In saying that, the packaging does look a little deceptive, as the size of the jar makes it look like you are getting at least 50g of cream, when you are only getting 30g.

The cream is infused with Snap-8, which is an alternative to "painful injections" and is potently reducing lines and wrinkles. It is also containing caviar extract, which is very nourishing and help minimise the visual signs of ageing, and provide continuous hydration throughout the day.

The cream has a subtle scent. You can smell the caviar but it's not unpleasant, just a subtle scent of the sea, which quickly fades once absorbed into the skin.

So did the cream live up to its claims? After having used it for a few weeks, I have to say that my skin feels soft to the touch and smooth at the end of the day. I also noticed that my skin tone was more even, well hydrated, and simply looks healthy and glowing. And luckily I didn’t experience any breakouts either. In terms of lines and wrinkles, I have to say that I have not noticed any dramatic change, although one particular forehead wrinkle does seem to have lessened slightly in size, so with continued and long-term use, I would expect to see further results. But is it an alternative to Botox? – I have never had Botox, and at this stage have no plans to, so I have no idea what to compare it to!!

My only criticism is that the cream doesn't have SPF, although on the other hand, I do suspect that SPF is what often what makes my skin break out!!

At $89.95 the cream is a little pricey for just 30g, however, it is a luxurious cream, which feels fantastic on the skin, and with long-term use is an effective anti-ageing moisturiser with fantastic results.

Product Review: Dr Lewinn's Liquid Loofah Mineral Body Scrub

I love a good body scrub. It helps keep my skin soft and smooth, is perfect to use before a self-tanner to ensure a better and more even result, and helps avoid ingrown hairs. Over the years I have tried quite a few different body scrubs, here are my thoughts on the Dr LeWinn's Liquid Loofah Mineral Body Scrub;

What They Say:

Contains a vitamin-enriched formula that conditions & nourishes, leaving skin soft and smooth. Excellent for combating hardened skin areas and removing dead skin. Dr LeWinn's Liquid Loofah Mineral Body Scrub helps release in-grown hairs and revives tired feet and softens hardened heels. Ideal skin preparation for self-tanning lotion. For best results, use when showering with an exfoliating glove.

RRP: $29.95 (150ml) – Available from Priceline, Department Stores, and Select Pharmacies

What I Say:
I instantly took a liking to the Dr Lewinn's Liquid Loofah Mineral Body Scrub, as it is based on natural oils and fruit based exfoliators, which include among others loofa and apricot seed powder to exfoliate, and sweet almond old, apricot kernel oil to moisturise, nourish and protect the skin, and peppermint and spearmint leaf oil to refresh.

It comes in a very handy to use tube, which I really like as it is so easy to use in the shower, and also avoids water getting into the product. And it has been designed to stand on its flip lid, which means that the product drops down in the tube as you use it, making it easy to completely empty the tube.

The Liquid Loofah Mineral Body Scrub claims to:
  • Removes dead skin cells
  • Softens hardened skin areas
  • Conditions and revitalises
  • Total body treatment
  • Releases ingrown hairs

And I have to say that I found that it did what it claimed to do and using it just a few times each week, it has made my skin feel lovely and soft after use.

This scrub is beautiful to use as it is based on very fine grains, which also makes it feel very gentle on the skin, yet it is extremely effective in removing dead skin cells to give me smooth and glowing skin. After using it, I can see my skin is glowing and invigorated, from both the exfoliation as well as the ingredients in the body scrub.

And since using this I have found a massive improvement in the condition of my body both feel and look noticeably softer, smoother and more glowing. Moisturiser absorbs more quickly, and my self-tanner applies more easily and gives me a nicer and more even results. And not to mention, I seem to be getting less ingrown hairs, and less breakouts and pimples on my back. Bonus all around!

The body scrub has a blue-green coloured, which is a little unusual, but at the same time it is very practical as I can see where I have missed spots.

It has a rustic minty scent, very similar to toothpaste, which I really like as it is quite refreshing, and it adds bit of zing to your shower routine, perfect for when you’re feeling a bit tire, as it leaves you feeling re-energised. It is like a wake-up call in the morning! But once you rinse it off, this minty scent quickly disappears, so no need to worry that it will clash with your perfume.

All in all, this is a great body scrub, that lives up to its claims. In fact, it is one of the best that I have ever used; so finely grained, yet so gentle and effective.

Product Review: Dr. LeWinn’s Skin Perfect Anti-Ageing Pressed Powder

Having combination skin, especially during summer, it doesn’t take long from I apply my makeup before my face starts to shine – and that is when I rely on a good powder. Here are my thoughts on the *Dr. LeWinn’s Skin Perfect Anti-Ageing Pressed Powder;

What They Say:
Achieve a flawless complexion instantly with this creamy press powder. Glides on silky smooth covering wrinkles, enlarged pores and blemishes. This semi-matte powder is long wearing, leaving skin feeling hydrated and smooth.

RRP: $39.95 (7g) – Available from Priceline and Select Pharmacies

What I Say:

I recently reviewed the Dr. Lewinn’s Skin Perfect Anti-ageing Foundation, as well as the Skin Perfect Anti-Ageing Illuminiser and primer from the same and absolutely loved both, so I had high hopes for the pressed powder as well.

The Skin Perfect makeup range uses a combination of three key ingredients to help leave you with smoother, softer, and wrinkle-free skin.
First, the products contain stem cells from alpine rose, which have been shown to renew and stimulate the skin. It also contains the peptide Matrixyl®Synthe’6™, which has been clinically proven to enhance skin collagen. And finally, the products also contain tourmaline, known for its ability to boost skin radiance. Combined these three ingredients give you some very powerful anti-ageing products. And when you start seeing the fine lines around the eyes, you realise that it is time to do something about it immediately, so the sound of the Dr. Lewinn’s Skin Perfect products really do sound fantastic, promising to works on your wrinkles while covering imperfections.

The pressed powder is has a semi-matte finish and simply glides onto the skin leaving it with a velvety light finish and a skin that looks unbelievably smooth.

It gives light to medium coverage without looking powdery or highlighting lines, and I love that it does not settle into fine lines on the face. It can be applied onto foundation to finish and set for longer wear – which is mainly how I have been using it, as with a combination skin it also helps stop my makeup from being too shiny and sliding off my face at lunchtime. In fact, using the powder on top of my foundation has extended the wear of my makeup by several hours, although on the very hot and humid days, I still need to touch-up by the afternoon.

However, the pressed powder can also be applied directly onto primer to achieve a light and more natural looking make-up look the leaves skin looking smooth and radiant, although you can still build up the coverage a little. But regardless of how it is used, it is very long wearing, and simply leaves the skin looking fantastic with a healthy and natural glow. And I love the fact that when I remove my makeup at night, it really has also been caring for my ageing skin!

The actual powder is only available in two colours, Pink Beige and Honey Beige. I am using the honey beige, which matches my medium beige skin tone perfectly. But considering the Skin Perfect foundation is available in six colours, it would be lovely if more colours were also available in the powder to suit more skin tones.

The pressed powder comes in a dark brown bronze coloured round compact. It has a handy mirror in the lid, and underneath the powder there is room to store the round sponge that comes with the powder. And while I think that it is great that it comes with a sponge, which makes it easier to touch you your face on the go during the day, I must admit that I do prefer to use the powder with one of my own brushes, as I simply find that I get a much nicer and more even result.

The only other negative I have about this pressed powder is the scent of the product. The primer and the foundation from the same range both have a lovely but gentle scent, but the powder on the other hand has a strange scent, which makes me think that it is out of date – which I know that it is clearly not seeing it has only just recently been launched. However, even so, this smell luckily does disappear once applied.

All in all, I still feel that this is a fantastic powder, and I really love that it also contains anti-ageing ingredients as well as SPF15, along with the fact that it doesn’t settle into fine lines on my face, but rather it leaves my skin looking healthy and glowing!
