PRODUCT REVIEW: AVON MEGA EFFECTS MASCARA

Today I’d like to share with you a mascara that is different to any others that you’ve ever seen before, the Avon Mega Effects Mascara*;

What They Say:

Innovative, ergonomical design fits the curve of your eye, coating every lash from root to tip for 40% more mascara to lash. Knock out volume makes your lashes look darker, denser and more dramatic for a clump-proof, non-flaking and non-smudging look. It’s changing the face of makeup, one lash at a time.

RRP: $19.99 (9g) – Available from
Avon

What I Say:
This mascara is completely different to any mascara I’ve ever tried before. In fact, if you didn’t know, before opening it, you wouldn’t even know that it is a mascara.

The mascara has an ergonomic and adjustable mascara applicator designed to fit the curve of the eye, coating every lash from root to tip. The special Comb-Thru bristles capture even the smallest lashes, and consequently promising 40% more mascara to the lashes.

The mascara has been 6 years in the making, and the special ‘head’ can be bend in 12 different angles to reach and coat all lashes perfectly.

It does take a little while to master how to use the mascara – and actually, even opening it for the first time took a bit of pondering as I was wondering how to open it without breaking it. But once I mastered how to open and use the mascara, it really wasn’t that tricky at all. And I did quickly start loving the wide brush that quickly and easily coats every single last without clumping, and I also love how it makes it easy to coat the lashes so close to the lash line. It gives the lashes some nice definition and certainly also volume, but I am not sure that it provides ‘40% more mascara’ on my lashes as promised, and I would have loved some more length and also curl.

The mascara is not waterproof, but it is claimed to be sweat-proof, non-flaking and non-smudging, and I do find that it stays put nicely throughout the day, although it does smear a little when my eyes run (I have very sensitive eyes that easily water) and I rub my eyes!

Overall it is a very different mascara and I really like how the brush coats my lashes and the volume it gives them, although I wouldn’t quite call it ‘dramatic’ as claimed. But It is perfect for an everyday mascara. I think it is one of those mascaras that you will either love or hate, you just have to try it for yourself, and you just never know, it may just be your new favourite. I certainly appreciate having tried it, and applaud Avon for coming up with a new concept to an old makeup staple.

PRODUCT REVIEW: AVON FEMME EAU DE PARFUM

I have known about the brand Avon for quite some time, but never actually tried any of their products until recently. And I certainly have never tried any of their fragrances, so when their newest launch, Avon Femme Eau de Parfum* unexpectedly arrived at my doorstep, it naturally made my day. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:

Introducing Avon Femme, the alluring new fragrance that captures the very essence of glamour. As cameras flash and stars sparkle, captivate from day to night with this passionately rendered fragrance that releases your inner elegance and lets you shine like a star. Opens with the freshness of pink grapefruit and pear set against the sexy tones of jasmine petals. At the heart of the fragrance sits a delicate bouquet of pink petals, dew-kissed magnolia, gardenia blossom and water lily creating a glamorous and feminine scent. Delectable amber woods and peach mingle with silky musk notes to enhance the scent’s depth and feminine finish. Are you ready for your close up?

RRP: $59.99 (50ml) - Available from Avon

What I Say:

This fragrance promises to make you ‘feel like a star every day’ with its fruity floral scent.

The fragrance has the following notes;

  • Top notes: pink grapefruit, violet and plum
  • Heart: jasmine, wild orchid and magnolia
  • Base: amber, peach skin, musk and woody notes

I generally prefer light and fresh scents, especially in spring and summer, so this Femme Eau de Parfum from Avon does hit the right notes, especially with its pink grapefruit that gives it a nice fruity freshness, along with the floral jasmine and magnolia. It does also contain amber and woody notes according to the description, but luckily they are very faint, as neither is amongst my preferred scents. As the scent dries down, it does also have a warm peachy and slightly powdery scent.

The scent, as most Eau de Perfums, lasts fairly well, and I after spraying it on in the morning, I can still detect it in the end of the day, although it is very faint, so if you do need go out, I do feel that an extra spray or two is required by the mid-afternoon.

The Femme Eau de Toilette comes in a diamond shaped bottle with a share ‘diamond cut’ lid, which is simply and stunning and clearly showing the pale pink liquid. It comes presented in a stylish black box with silver dots and stars scattered all over the box, and while it looks love, it does somewhat remind me of Xmas!

All in all it is a lovely scent from Avon, which is perfect for a casual outing or every day wear during spring or summer.
