PRODUCT REVIEW: LIMITED EDITION MAC x AALIYAH COLLECTION

There’s always a lot of excitement when makeup super brand announces new collaborations, but one of those that has received even more hype lately is the new MAC x Aaliyah Collection.

The R&B music icon died in 2001, and her MAC collection has in actual fact created due to demand from her faithful fans who started a petition for the late singer asking the brand to honour her by creating her own makeup range. The new, limited edition MAC x Aaliyah Collection has been inspired by her signature look, which consisted of deep neutral eyes and bold lip colours.
In Australia, the collection includes 10 products including;

  • 4 x lipsticks - Try Again (matte pale beige nude), Hot Like (satin finish, bright classic red), More Than A Woman (satin finish, dark berry red), Street Thing (shimmery dark grey/black)
  • 4 x lipglasses - Brooklyn Born (sheer nude with pearl and golden shimmer), Li Li’s Motor City (sheer coral with shimmer), At Your Best You Are (warm berry) and 1 in a Million (deep rich purple)
  • Bronzer - a golden tinted powder with soft pearl for a sheer, natural sun kissed look and highlights
  • Age Ain’t Nothing Eye Palette - with nine deep and moody neutral shades including;

Top row; Lovesmoke (shimmery silver), Magic Moor (black with silver sparkle), Care 4 You (mauve-plum with subtle shimmer)

Middle Row: Creative Copper (metallic gold), That Somebody (satin gold brown with gold shimmer), Princess of Soul (matte muted golden brown)
Bottom Row: Deception (frosted cool medium brown), Gingersnap (frosted muted pinky coral), Dance in the Dark (matte deep cool brown)

I tried the Brooklyn Born Lipglass, which is such a gorgeous gloss with its sheer nude shade and shimmery golden and pearl flecks. It is gorgeous on its own, with a casual makeup look, but also great on top of any lipstick to add a little extra dimension and shine.

I also tried the More Than A Woman Lipstick, which has such a gorgeous dark berry red shade with a satin sheen.

Finally, I also tried the Age Ain’t Nothing Eye Palette, which is seriously divine. I am rarely wearing but nude and earthy eye shadows, so this colour combination is seriously right up my alley, and the only shade I probably wont really use is the top right one, Care 4 You with its plum/purple shade. But the rest of the shades are just stunning, with plenty of neutral shades for anything from a simple day time look to a more smokey eye, and the addition of the silver (top left) and golden shades (middle left), means that you can also take this palette from day to night with a touch of glam. Seriously stunning palette.

Also worth a mention is the unique packaging of this MAC x Aaliyah Collection, which breaks with the standard black MAC packaging. Rather this collection has shiny dark burgundy packaging, with Aaliyah’s printed in silver. It is simply so stunning and elegant.

Regardless if you were/are an Aaliyah fan or not, this collection is seriously stunning, so worth checking out. But again, note that it is limited edition, so best hurry before it sells out. Personally I’ve got my eyes on that bronzer too, along with the red Hot Like Lipstick and the berry shaded At Your Best You Are Lipglass.
