Product Review: Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream SPF 25

I have always had problems with my skin. And even though I am at the age where anti-ageing products are a necessity, and you would have thought that pimple creams would be a thing of the past, sadly that is not the case for my skin. But in saying that, since I’ve been pregnant, my skin has never been nicer. It is less greasy, and I rarely have any breakouts. Lucky seeing most pimple treatments are a big no-no to use when you’re pregnant!). But having clearer skin, also means that I on most days have swapped the full coverage foundation for tinted day creams, and lately also BB creams. Here are my thoughts on the *Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream SPF 25;

What They Say:
"The Clarins BB cream delivers the perfect amount of colour and blends instantly minimising imperfections to ensure a flawless complexion with a natural look. On application it works to moisturise, revitalise and protect the skin."

RRP: $50 (45ml) – Available from leading department stores, select pharmacies and retail specialists, and Adore Beauty Online.

What I Say:

The Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream SPF 25 contains among others organic kiwi extract known for its anti-fatigue and antioxidant properties; rich in vitamin C, it works to stimulate skin cells. It also contains a combination of katafray extracts and hyaluronic acid to boost and restore the skin’s natural hydration process, for additional softness and comfort.
It has been made with the Clarins exclusive Anti-Pollution Complex, SPF25 and a PA+++ to protect against UVA rays and prevent slackened skin tissue, loss of skin firmness and the appearance of wrinkles, as well as it has a combination of "3-D radiance" and light-correcting pigments to optically brighten dark, shadowy areas. And finally, it also contains Clarins exclusive anti-pollution complex to help prevent signs of premature ageing, as well as it offers 100% mineral screen to protect against UVA and UVB rays.

The Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream comes in 3 shades; light, medium and warm, and the colour 02 medium matches my medium beige skin tone perfectly. But in saying that, I could easily see some girls struggling finding their perfect shade, as these three shades do simply not cover enough variety of shades.

The BB Cream contains SPF25, which is great bonus, although, I don’t personally, I don't usually rely on the SPF in a tinted moisturiser of foundation because you apply so little of the product to get the full benefit of their SPF, so I like to layer my usual sunblock first before I apply them. Often I do get breakouts from products containing SPF, but I’m very happy to say that I have noticed any while using Clarins BB cream.

In regards to the Anti-Pollution Complex, it is impossible for me to comment on the effects of this, so I will just comment on the visible effects.
The BB Cream has a slightly thick texture, yet it feels surprisingly light and glides easily onto the skin (on top of my usual serum and day cream), without leaving any streaks.

All other BB creams that I have tried to date have had a very minimal coverage, but I’m happy to say that the Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream has a slightly better coverage which I really like, as it does even out pigmentation and cover small scars better, as well as fine lines seems to be minimised, although it still doesn’t completely cover dark pimple marks, all scarring or dark pigmentation. It gives the skin a nice dewy matte look. And in spite of being exhausted (36 weeks pregnant and not always getting a good nights sleep, and carrying around a lot more weight than you usually do, does that to you!), and the skin consequently looking dull and tired, the BB Cream gives the skin just a touch of a glow and radiance, making it look more ‘alive’, yet without making looking to shimmery. The skin looks fresh and very natural, almost like you are not wearing any makeup at all.

The BB Cream can be worn on its own, although using a powder on top, does increase both coverage and wear slightly. In spite of having combination skin, the BB Cream stays put for quite a few hours on its, without looking greasy, starting to slide off my face or change colour, and I only need to use touch up with a powder in the afternoon to see me through the day. And the cream is so comfortable to wear, making my skin feel and look thoroughly moisturised all day.

Shade 02 Medium

Shade 02 Medium blended.

The Clarins BB Skin Perfecting Cream comes in a simple, but stunning dark red tube with a gold screw lid. It is simple and easy to use, and I like that it has been designed to stand on its lid so that the cream drops down as you use it, making it easier to completely empty the tube.

It has the most divine floral scent, which is quite strong, which I really like. But for those not so keen on strongly fragranced products, this scent does fade once the cream has absorbed into the skin.

All in all, I have to say that this is by far the best BB cream that I have used to date, as it offers slightly more coverage making my skin look more even radiant, and it stays put basically all day without making my face look shiny or greasy, yet it still looks so natural. I will definitely be buying this again. Thanks so much Clarins, for me this is truly an incredible product – I’ve finally found my perfect BB match!

    1. I like Avene products too, but don't believe that they have BB cream. In saying that, I love Clarins too, and this one really is perfect for me!
