PRODUCT REVIEW: BOURJOIS ROUGE VELVET THE LIPSTICK

Bourjois.. the brand that will forever remind of a family holiday France over three decades ago, where I first came across the brand and spent my saved pocket money on a few pot rouges. Since then, I have had nothing but love for the brand, and those little rouges, have remained favourites.
New to me, however are the lipsticks, so needless to say I was excited when a handful of the Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipsticks* landed on my desk to try.

  • The Bourjois Rouge Velvet The Lipstick is a long-wearing matte lipstick, and while other matte and long-wearing lipsticks are often drying, and also uncomfortable on the lips, these will never dry out lips thanks to contain a combination of hydrating waxes and a light oil that leaves the lips soft and smooth, and also makes them feel quite light comfortable on the lips.
  • I found that it didn’t really smudge. However as for the promise of 24 hours of full-on glamour and wear, I am not so sure - one, I would never wear a lipstick that long (who would??), and secondly I ‘only’ managed to get about 5-6 hours wear, though I did feel I needed to touch up again after eating, also because it did wear off in the centre, rather than just fade naturally. However that said, I am actually pretty happy with that, and mostly don’t really need my lipsticks to stay put for longer than that anyway.
  • It has a unique tear drop shade, where the top point makes it easier to apply it more precisely onto the lips, so you don’t actually need to use a lipliner first.
  • There are 16 different shades in the range, ranging from nude to bolds, and I put four different ones to the test;
L-R; 4, 3, 7, 11
  • 4 - a pinkish dark mauve shade
  • 3 - a more brownish dark mauve shade
  • 7 - a classic red shade
  • 11 - a rich dark berry shade

Overall, I am really loving these lipsticks. They have a lovely velvety matte look, and feel lovely on the lips. The red shade is without a doubt a favourite. I am not usually a fan too pale shades, but the two mauves are both in the darker end of the scale and absolutely gorgeous and perfect for everyday wear. Finally, the dark berry shade, it is also a gorgeous shade, but due to it being so dark and I feel looks a little ‘vampy’ on me, I do prefer this one for nights out.
