PRODUCT REVIEW: BIODERMA HYDRABIO

Today I’d like to share with the Hydrabio Range from BioDerma...

What They Say:

The Bioderma Hydrabio range is designed for dehydrated sensitive skin. Every day, pollution, stress, cold weather, etc. disrupt the skin's cellular activity. It no longer knows how to deeply generate or retain on the surface the water it needs for its natural balance. The skin becomes dehydrated, uncomfortable and more sensitive and loses its radiance. Found in the full range of Hydrabio products, the Aquagenium patent stimulates the skin's cellular capacities and reactivates its natural hydration process.

What I Say:

I am relatively new to Bioderma having only tried a few smaller samples from beauty subscription boxes, but I do like the fact that the products are designed to treat skin conditions while working to treat and fix the issue.

The Bioderma Hydrabio range has been designed for dehydrated and sensitive skin, and I have to say that generally my skin is classified combination, although it is definitely more oily in the warmer months of the year, while it does tend to get a little drier in the winter months, probably from a combination of not drinking enough water, and spending too much time indoors with the heater going. So all in all it does mean that I do tend to use slightly heavier moisturisers and cleansers that are more gentle during those months.

Now onto the products..

The Bioderma Exfoliating Cream which is described as a gentle exfoliating scrub that contains tiny microbeads that gently cleanses the skin deep down every pore to get rid of build-up of dry skin, and excess oil, dirt and sebum. It is recommended to use this scrub at night time, once or twice per week, but as it is so gentle (and I don’t have sensitive skin), I do find that I can use it every second day without any issues. When you first use it, you may find that it is not doing much to your skin in terms of exfoliation, but after use, the skin is left soft and smooth and clearly more glowing. The scrub has an RRP of $39.95 (75ml) from Priceline, which you may find a little pricey, but if you need a gentle scrub, then it is definitely worth the price tag.

The Bioderma Hydrabio H20 Micelle Solution is a super gentle makeup remover that removes makeup including waterproof eye makeup. The micellar water contains fatty acid esters that help rebuild the skin's hydrolipidic film, activate the skins natural moisturising capabilities and retain the water the skin needs to be balanced. The Micelle Solution is best used by soaking a cotton pad, and as it is so gentle and non-greasy too, there is no need to rinse your face afterwards. And as it is so gentle, it also doesn’t sting in my sensitive eyes, unlike many other eye makeup removers. The Micelle Solution can also be used to cleanse your face in the morning to remove all any trace of excess sebum produced during the night, again, all while adding extra moisture to the skin. The Micelle Solution has an RRP of $29.99 (250ml), which I personally find great value, as even if it is just used to remove eye makeup up, it will last you a very long time!

Next is the Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Toning Lotion. I have to admit to not using a toner very often. Well, that is, I’ve been using one from Clinique for years when I’ve been prone to breakouts, but since I was pregnant last, I dropped that from my skincare routine. So a moisturising tone is new to me. This toner both removes any makeup and cleanser residue left on the skin, at the same time as adding extra moisture to the skin. I do quite like the feeling of the liquid lotion when I wipe it over my skin with a soaked cotton pad, and can see that my skin is enjoying it, especially not that the weather is getting colder. I also love that it is so gentle that I can even use it around my eyes. RRP: $29.99 (250ml)

The Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Concentrate has a lovely light gel consistency, and although it is intended for very dehydrated skin, I love the light refreshing texture on my skin and that it absorbs so quickly and easily. The serum contains a complex that simulates the skin’s cellular capabilities, and retrains it to generate in depth while locking in moisture and hydration to the skin. The serum can be used both morning and night, either alone or before a moisturiser. RRP: $42.99 (30ml)

Finally, there are two different moisturisers, the Hydrabio Riche for very hydrated skin, and the Hydrabio Legere for hydrated skin. With my combination skin, I prefer the Legere moisturiser, as it is simply lighter in consistency on my sink, and hence also seems to absorb quicker, all while still providing my skin with the moisture that it needs, and without making my skin feel greasy. So t is also perfect for using during the day under makeup, as well as at night. However, if you skin is normal to dry, you will no doubt like the Riche moisturiser. I have passed it on to my hubby who has a normal skin type, and he quite likes it, and that it also has a very subtle gentle scent. RRP: Each $39.99 (40ml)

The Serum and the Moisturisers all come in white bottles with a blue lid, and all have pumps , which makes them easy and convenient to use. The Exfoliating Scrub comes in a standard up-side-town squeeze tube, and the Micelle Lotion and the Toning Lotion both come in see-through bottles so you can easily see how much product that you have left. I also love the blue colour of the Toning Lotion that also makes it easy to distinguish from the clear Micelle Lotion.

All in all I really like this range, even in spite of not having neither dry nor sensitive skin. I like that the products are so gentle, as I believe that it never hurts to use gentle products, even without having sensitive skin. I really like that my skin feels thoroughly moisturised, even when I’ve just washed it, and consequently I also feel that it has a nice glow to it.

I can definitely see myself purchasing the Micelle Lotion, the Toning Lotion, the Exfoliating Scrub and the Serum again, as well as I am also enjoying the Legere Moisturiser and the fact that it doesn’t seem to make my skin break out, which is rare for an intense moisture – so overall, really, this is a big tick of approval!

All the Bioderma Hydrabio products are available from Priceline

  1. I really love the toner. I normally prefer a mist toner, but this one is so refreshing on my skin.
