Product Review: Luminesce Essential Body Renewal

I don’t have particularly dry skin body, thought I have to admit that it always gets a bit drier during winter, especially on my legs. And regardless much in a hurry I am, I always do my best to apply body lotion once I have showered. And even though it now officially spring, and my skin is already feeling and looking better as it is no longer as cold, now is the time to prep and prime the skin in time so the bare pins are ready to show off with shorts, skirts and dresses. And then there’s the topic of anti-ageing. I am at the age where I always use anti-ageing products in my face, so it would be about time to start using some on my body too. Here are my thoughts on the *Luminesce Essential Body Renewal;

What They Say:
Luminesce™ essential body renewal delivers the ultimate in deep hydration. This exclusive body lotion has been specially formulated with optimal ingredients under the expertise of world-renowned dermatologist Dr. Nathan Newman to help boost collagen formation, improve skin elasticity and protect against the signs of premature ageing.

RRP: $65.95 (150ml) – Available from Jeunesse Online

What I Say:

Late last year I was offered to trial some products from Luminesce, but being pregnant, unfortunately I had to decline the offer as the products contained ingredients not safe during pregnancy – I had been looking forward to trialling the products, so I was quite disappointed when I realised I couldn’t, so I was quite excited to now be trialling the Luminesce Essential Body Renewal.

Luminesce Essential Body Renewal is not just a body lotion keeping the skin soft, subtle and thoroughly hydrated, it also helps to stimulate cellular renewal, containing contains potent antioxidant-containing botanicals to help protect your cells and encourage your body’s natural processes to produce more proteins like collagen and elastin.

Luminesce Essential Body Renewal uses a special phospholipid delivery system that reaches deep into the dermis where it is most effective, allowing for an increased absorbency of the target hydrating ingredients, and among others has the benefits of:
  • Long-lasting antioxidant protection and helps combat photo-ageing
  • Help to maintain and restore a softer, smoother, more youthful skin texture
  • Reconditions thirsty skin by stimulating microcirculation and accelerating the natural rejuvenation process
  • Soothes and rehydrates dry skin
  • Help to delay the appearance of the ageing process
  • Help visibly rejuvenate dry, damaged skin by reducing flaking and locking in moisture and nutrients
  • Naturally lubricates your skin’s surface, giving your body a softer, smoother appearance

The cream contains a range of fruit extracts, including apple, watermelon, passion fruit, black elderberry and cucumber, which among others help to soothe and soften the skin,  lock in hydration, neutralise free radical damage and improve skin elasticity, and increase the water content in the top layers of the skin.

It also contains Luminesce Rejuvenation Factor Complex, which helps restore skin's natural protein levels. Niacinamide, which improves your skin’s protective barrier and helps maintain proper moisture levels by increasing the skin's production of ceramides and fatty acids. And finally I also contains

Microccus lysate, a natural ingredient that that helps protect skin and enhances natural repair and Superoxide Dismutase, a patented super powerful ingredient that helps protect the skin internally from free radical damage.

So after now using it for a few weeks, did it live up to its claims?

The Essential Body Renewal is extremely moisturising, yet it is a light cream that absorbs quickly into the skin without making it feel greasy or sticky. And my skin is instantly left feeling incredibly silky soft and hydrated, a feeling that lasts all day, or actually until I shower again the next morning.

Having quite some pigmentation, especially on my chest area, I was also keen to see how it lived up to the claims of combatting photo-ageing. And in fact, as the pigmentation is of greater concern than dry skin, I decided to only use this luxurious cream on my upper body, and not waste it on my legs!!

And after about a month’s use of the cream, I do find that I can see some slight improvement in the pigmentation and brown spots on my chest area, although they are still quite visible – but as these are a result of decades in the sun, I also didn’t expect to see any miracles in just a month. Rather I think it requires not only continuous treatment, as well as avoiding exposing this area to the sun.

The body lotion has a gorgeous floral scent, which lingers around for a while even after it has been absorbed into the skin, but as it is such a beautiful scent, I don’t mind one bit. And I love that it does not contain any artificial fragrances, so the beautiful scent comes from the fruit extracts used in the cream. I also love the fact that it is silicone free and non-comedogenic

The cream comes in a stylish and luxurious looking silver tube with blue writing and a silver lid. And it’s not just any lid, as when you twist it a hole opens up, which disperses the cream. Simple yet so easy to use.

At $65.95 for 150ml this is not a cheap body cream, and it is certainly a lot pricier than what I would normally purchase. It is quite concentrated, and after using it on my upper body for about three weeks, I’d say that I have approximately used half the tube – so if you do like me, and skip using it on the legs, you should be able to get 6-8 weeks use out of the tube.

What I Like:
  • The gorgeous scent, and that it doesn’t contain any artificial fragrances of colours
  • That it contains a combination of natural fruit extracts and active anti-ageing ingredients
  • That it is silicone free
  • That all ingredients used as listed on the back of the tube

What I don’t Like:
  • The price
  • That it is only available for purchase from Luminesce online

Overall, this is an amazing body cream, and I love that it contains anti-again properties. As mentioned, I feel that I see a slight improvement in pigmentation after just a few weeks, so I am convinced that continuous use would give some amazing results. If you can afford to buy it, you won’t be disappointed.
