Product Review: Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser

Using a good cleanser can make a massive difference to the look and feel of your skin, and having combination skin prone to breakouts, I am always on the lookout for the perfect cleanser. One that will not only remove my makeup easily, but also keep breakouts to a minimum. Here are my thoughts on the *Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser;

What They Say:
"Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser has a moisture-rich soy formula that works to cleanse whilst lifting away impurities such as dirt, oil and makeup. The Radiant Cleanser doesn’t over dry the skin, leaving it with a naturally radiant finish".

RRP: $13.99 (200ml) – Available from Priceline, select pharmacies and supermarkets.

What I Say:
I have heard nothing but positive things about the Aveeno products, and personally love the fragrance free body lotion, so I had high hopes for the Positively Radiant Cleanser as well.

The cleanser, which is oil free and soap free, contains soy extracts which is to help even out the skin tone.
The cleanser contains small particles of glitter/shimmer (mica) within the cleanser, which I must admit I found a little strange, as I that is the first time I have seen this in a cleanser, and I’m not quite sure that I understand its purpose, - although clearly intended to make the skin radiant, the glitter disappears once you rinse the face with water after cleansing.

The cleanser is oil-free, hypoallergenic, soap-free and non-comedogenic. It has a very lovely fragrance, which is very citrusy and fresh. To some it may be too strongly scented, but I really like this scent, but I also love citrus scented products, so it doesn’t bother me at all. However, I could easily imagine those with a sensitive skin, would prefer if it was less fragranced or even fragrance free.

The cleanser comes in a very handy pump bottle which I also love, it is very convenient and also hygienic.
The cleanser easily removes all makeup my makeup, and afterwards my skin feels clean and soft, and has a nice glow, which I did put down to the shimmer in the cleanser – so maybe it wasn’t washed completely off after all!
I did however find that this glow more or less disappeared after applying moisturiser – I guess after the shimmer had been further covered up!

After now having used the cleanser for a few weeks, I am yet to see it making my skin more even or radiant. However, my skin does feel soft, clean healthy, and I love that it cleanses my skin without making it feel tight or dried out. I still get the odd breakout, so it has also not changed the amount of break-outs that I get, it is neither more nor less.

So all in all, my verdict for this cleanser is that it is a very good basic cleanser, which does a good job at removing makeup and keeping my skin clean, so I will definitely continue to use it for that purpose. I also like the fact that it is soap free as well as I really like the citrusy fragrance. However I will follow with my ‘treatment cleanser’ to target breakouts and skin tone concerns.
