PRODUCT REVIEW: HYDROSKIN VITAMIN A SERUM AND ORGANIC MANUKA HONEY MASK

Some time ago I put some products from HydroSkin to the test, which you can read more about here.
If you’re not familiar with HydroSkin, it’s an Australian boutique skincare range that believes less is more and consequently the products are made without all the unnecessary toxins including no parabens, sulphates, fragrances or other chemical nasties that can irritate the skin. Rather the products contain the highest quality scientifically advanced and natural ingredients available, including, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin B, Kakadu Plum, Vitamin A and Vitamin C.

This time, I’ve put the following products to the test;
  • HydroSkin Organic Manuka Honey Mask
  • HydroSkin Vitamin A Serum

The HydroSkin Organic Manuka Honey Mask is made using 50% New Zealand sourced Manuka Honey UMF 20+ and miniHA™ (Hyaluronic Acid), to provide both intense hydration as well as luminosity to the skin.

The Manuka Honey acts as a natural healer and antibacterial ingredient that also helps soothe the skin, heal blemishes, balance the skin’s pH, remove dead skin cells and keep pores clear thanks its ammonia acids, as well as draw moisture to the skin and enhance its elasticity and cell collagen while also promoting collagen for a younger looking skin.

The Hyaluronic Acid helps penetrate the the skin to plump the skin and improve hydration.

The face mask is very gentle and can be used by all skin types, even be used under the eyes, or on the lips any time to help heal dry cracked lips.

You simply apply 5-6 pumps (I found 5 pumps more than sufficient), and then you massage it into the skin until it turns into a white-ish cream. You then leave for 10-20 before rinsing it off, the longer, the more efficient it is.

I’ve been using it about once a week, and really enjoyed how soothing it is feeling on my skin, and how nourished and hydrated, smooth and soft it has left my skin, and with a gorgeous healthy glow too.

With my ageing yet blemish prone skin, I love it is helping with both plumpness as well as treat my breakouts at the same time.

Then there’s the HydroSkin Vitamin A Serum and I am absolutely hooked on using Vitamin A/Retinol on my skin, simply as I feel it is great both to treat signs of ageing including lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, but also help keep my breakouts at bay.

HydroSkin’s Vitamin A Serum is formulated to help reduce fine lines & wrinkles, stimulate collagen production, defend against thinning skin and serve as an exfoliator making skin smooth and even-toned and help unclog pores, and also help regulate the sebum production, which is what is also great for my blemish prone skin.

The key ingredient in the serum is Hydroxpinacolone Retinoate (HPR), which is a new form of Vitamin A, a highly effective Retinoid, like Retin-A, but less irritating and non-prescription.

The serum is best used at night, for the pure reason that the use of Vitamin A helps make the skin more sensitive to UV exposure, so it is also very important to always use sunscreen during the day, not just when using Vitamin A of course, but all the time. You simply apply 3-4 pumps, though personally I find that 3 is sufficient, to dry cleansed skin on face, neck and décolleté. I tend to follow with my usual night cream, but during summer when my skin is a little on the greasier side, or on hot nights, the serum itself is sufficient for my skin.

It has a very light cream texture, and it is easy to apply and spread onto the skin, and it absorbs immediately, and without any greasiness or stickiness, but rather it leaves the skin feeling so silky soft and smooth.

After having used this serum for the past few weeks, I have to say that I am in love with it. I have used may retinol serums previously, but many are oil based and hence also feel greasier on the skin, which I don’t really like that much, simply as I feel my skin is sufficiently greasy as it is. As for the effects, ageing and sun damage take years to accumulate, so you cannot expect it to vanish overnight, but overall, I have to say that I love how this serum leaves my skin feeling less greasy overall, as well as softer and smoother. It also looks somewhat more plump with some lines especially on my forehead appearing slightly minimised. And all without causing any irritation or dryness (which other retinol can). I also feel that my skin is looking a little more even and glowing, so all up very impressed with this serum, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing what continued use will do.
