PRODUCT REVIEW // HERBALIFE THE ULTIMATE SKINCARE PROGRAMME + GIVEAWAY

Herbalife is one of those companies that there is and has been a lot of talk about on the news for pyramid building and so forth. I will not go into that here - I have no ill experiences with the company, so have no basis for commenting on it, good or bad - I have simply been sent a selection of their skincare products to test - and will have a set to give away too to one lucky reader, so be sure to read on - and I kindly accepted, keen to see and feel myself why this company is making such waves..

So let’s get into it. The products are based on a blend of Vitamin B3, Vitamin C and E, Aloe Vera and other botanical ingredients and essential oils, while being free from nasties such as parabens and sulfates, as well as the products are dermatologically tested.

Herbalife The Ultimate Programme* contains the entire set of advanced skin products, plus two additional products that will help you reveal healthy-looking softer and smoother skin, with a diminished appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The Herbalife SKIN Ultimate Programme includes:

  • Soothing Aloe Cleanser, 150ml
  • Energising Herbal Toner, 50ml
  • Line Minimising Serum, 30ml
  • Firming Eye Gel, 15ml
  • Hydrating Eye Cream, 15ml
  • Daily Glow Moisturiser, 30ml
  • Replenishing Night Cream, 30ml
  • Instant Reveal Berry Scrub, 120ml
  • Purifying Mint Clay Mask, 120ml

The Soothing Aloe Cleanser is a super gentle cleaning gel designed to remove impurities and light makeup leaving skin clean and refreshed, while softening and moisturising the skin thanks to the added aloe vera. I do like how gentle it is on the skin, but do find that it struggles with my long-wearing waterproof makeup (it doesn’t promise it can remove this!), so I find that this cleanser is best used as a second cleanse, and I quite like using it with my Clairsonic or Foreo after removing all my makeup for a deeper clean of my skin, but without drying out or irritation my skin. It has a gorgeous fresh and gentle very subtle scent.

Soothing Aloe Cleanser, Energising Herbal Toner and Line Minimising Serum
Then there’s the Energising Herbal Toner. I admit to not using toners as often as I should, often as I find they are harsh on my skin, so I quite like that this one is not only alcohol free but again infused with aloe vera to help tone and refresh the skin without drying it out of irritating. Rather it has a lovely cooling sensation on the skin that feels so lovely and refreshing. I also like that it comes in a little spray bottle, which makes it so easy to use (I always find it so wasteful when a little cotton pad absorbs all the toner!) And as a lover of citrus scented products, I really like its gentle yet fresh and zesty mandarin scent.

Nest up is the Instant Reveal Berry Scrub, which is an antioxidant-rich scrub that contains exfoliating beads and blueberry seeds to exfoliate the skin for a softer, smoother and healthier looking skin. The scrub comes in the form of a clear gel, and at first it doesn’t really seem that gritty, but after use, it clearly does leave my skin feeling so soft and smooth, and in fact as it is so gentle, it doesn’t irritate my skin, and can be used several times per week as needed. Thanks to the added blueberry fruit extract, it has the most gorgeous juicy fruity scent.

Instant Reveal Berry Scrub and Purifying Mint Clay Mask

The Purifying Mint Clay Mask is a light grey creamy clean mask that contains bentonite clay to help acorn and remove dirt and excess oil from the skin and the pores. It promises to improve the appearance of pores after just one use and I can say that it really does make my skin feel and look so purified after use, but without making it feel tight or dried out. The mask can be used 1-3 times per week, as required, and has a lovely cooling sensation on the skin thank to the added spearmint, while the added rosemary helps balance the skin’s oil production and give it a lovely herbal scent.

Next in line is the Line Minimising Serum, which is a multifunctional serum that promises to help diminish the visible signs of ageing, and improve skin softness, smoothness, radiance, glow and luminosity in just seven days. This serum can be used both morning and evening on clean skin, before moisturiser. Along with the Vitamin B3, Vitamin C and E and aloe vera, it also contains chestnut seed extract and peptide. The serum has the consistency of a a light moisturiser, and absorbs quickly into the skin without any stickiness leaving it feeling soft. This serum is to be used morning and night on clean skin, prior to your moisturiser. It comes in a easy to use little pump bottle.

For the eyes there are two different products, a gel and a cream. The Firming Eye Gel helps improve the appearance of the delicate eye area by increasing your skin’s elasticity and improve the appearance of firmness and fine lines around the to the eye area. It has a nice thick gel consistency, and again absorbs quickly into the skin without any greasiness or stickiness, and leaves the skin under the eyes feeling incredibly soft and smooth, while feeling cooling and soothing on the skin. It has a very subtle gorgeous cucumber-like scent. This eye gel is to be used on clean skin both morning and evening, for maximum results. It also comes in a little pump bottle, which again I really like, only as the eye gel is quite concentrated and you only need a little, sadly the bottle does easily pump out a little too much product which I find a little wasted.

Then there’s the Hydrating Eye Cream, which aims to minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, helping to increase the skin’s moisture over eight hours. again, it is to be used both AM and PM, on clean skin, and I’ve been using it on top of the Eye Gel. It has a light cream consistency, and while it takes a few moments longer than the gel to absorb (perhaps as I’ve used the gel first!), it still absorbs quick, and without any stickiness, so I can apply makeup on top fairly quickly afterwards. In spite of being light, it does feel very moisturising, though without feeling too heavy. It has the same subtle cucumber-like scent and comes in a little pump bottle.

Firming Eye Gel, Hydrating Eye Cream, Daily Glow Moisturiser
and Replenishing Night Cream

Finally, there are two moisturises, one for day and one for night. The Daily Glow Moisturiser, is a day cream intended to add hydration, as well as it also has illuminating properties to give the face a healthy glow, making it look more radiant, even without makeup. The cream is quite light which I really like, yet it still adds intense moisture, in fact, it has been clinically shown to double skin’s moisture for eight hours, while also make the skin feel softer and smoother. It feels lovely on the skin and works perfectly under makeup, and as claimed, it really does make the skin so super soft while giving it the most gorgeous radiant healthy glow, not least to containing some super fine shimmer particles. Normally I am not a fan of that, simply as it makes my combination skin look greasy and too glittery, but it is so subtle, that it is still looking very natural.

And for night time, there’s the Replenishing Night Cream, which is a richer cream for adding more intense moisture and long-term hydration for the skin as you sleep, for a smoother and softer skin by morning. Again, it promises to double the skin’s moisture for eight hours, also improve the skin’s overall complexion and luminosity in just seven days. With my skin being combination, this night cream is the only product in this pack that I find a little on the rich side for my skin, but that said, this pack is also intended for those with normal to dry skin, so I really cannot say anything negative about it. I have used it a few nights, and especially as my skin does tend to become a little drier during winter, but during the warmer months of the year when my skin is at its greasiest, it would be too much. But regardless, it absorbs into the skin without any greasiness, and by moving I can clearly see that my skin has had an intense moisture boost as it simply looks plumper and healthier too.

So what are my thoughts… Packaging wise, I really like the simplistic white bottles and tubes with the silver writing, as they look elegant and sleek. I also love that the serums and creams come in pump bottles as it makes it not only easier to use them, but also more hygienic.

I also like that the products are numbered, depending on the step of the skin care routine, from 1 Cleanse, 2 Tone, 3 Treat, 4 Target, and 5 Moisturise, as it does simplify things. I also really like the subtle fresh cucumber scent that most of the products have, which comes from the added cucumber fruit extract, rather than added perfume, which does make it a natural scent.

When it come to the performance of the products, they promised an improvement in smoothness, softness, glow, radiance and luminosity, with results in as little as seven days. And I do actually feel that they have made my skin look more radiant and glowing, not least thanks to the Daily Glow Moisturiser.

While, apart from the Night Cream which in parts of the year is too rich for my skin, I have enjoyed using all the products, and my skin responded well to them, needless to say that of the nine products in the kit, I have liked a few more than others, including the Glow Moisturiser, Eye Gel, Serum and the Clay Mask, as I found these to especially stand out from the rest in terms of performance.
