Product Review: John Plunkett Advanced Collagen Lift Moisturiser

Today I’d like to share with you my thoughts on the *John Plunkett Advanced Collagen Lift Moisturiser;

What They Say:
John Plunkett Advanced Collagen Lift Moisturiser is a technically advanced day and night treatment moisturiser that helps smooth and lift as well as provide optimum hydration. Collagen and hyaluronic microspheres expand in the skin to instantly plump and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Matrixyl 3000, one of the latest and most powerful peptides, stimulates collagen production to firm and lift.

RRP: $59.95 (50ml) – Available from Priceline, selected pharmacies and Plunketts Pharmaceuticals Online

What I Say:

Being at the age where sadly anti-ageing creams are now a necessity, I was excited to trial the John Plunkett Advanced Collagen Lift Moisturiser. As you can see from the image, the cream came with a trial size of the John Plunkett Glyco Peel, and you can see my review here

I have combination skin, prone to breakouts, so whenever I trial new creams, and in particularly anti-ageing creams I am a little worried that it will make my skin congested and breakout. The Advanced Collagen Lift Moisturiser is recommended for normal to dry skin, so I was aware in advance that the cream may be a tad too rich for my skin.

The cream contains among others Matrixyl 3000, which is a blend of two potent peptides that stimulates natural collagen production repairing photo-ageing and damaged collagen networks in the skin to reduce deep wrinkles and restore younger looking skin. It also contains hyaluronic filling spheres to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, while delivering hyaluronic acid to increase hydration, avocado oil as a penetrating emollient rich in vitamins A and C, as well as rosehip oil, which is rich in vitamin C and softens the skin. All sounds pretty impressive, huh! And add to that the product is Australian made and owned too!

The cream comes in a nice looking clear plastic jar with a light metallic blue screw lid. As I say, I do prefer moisturisers that come in tubes or pump bottles as I find it more hygienic as that way I don’t constantly have to dip my fingers into the cream. As an alternative, it would have been nice if the cream had at least come with a small spatula.

The cream smells absolutely amazing, and reminds me a little of Dior’s J’adore, which is one of my favourite scents, although I would have preferred it to be slightly less fragranced for use on my face as my eyes are quite sensitive and water easily, and very fragranced products are always irritating my eyes if I get the product too close to them.

The cream has a nice consistency, and is very concentrated, so only a tiny dab is needed. It absorbs instantly into the skin, without making it feel greasy, and you can instantly feel its moisturising properties. It also leaves the skin with a nice sheen.

As with all anti-ageing products, you need to use for several weeks before you can expect to see some result, but unfortunately after about a week’s use, I started to feel that my skin was getting a little congested, and especially in the mornings, I found that my skin was feeling a little greasy. Consequently I decided to stop using the cream in my face, and instead use it on my decollate, which is equally in need of some anti-ageing TLC, with fine lines and photo-ageing fast developing.

And I have to say that I am enjoying using it there as already after just a few weeks of use, the skin on my decollate is looking so much nicer. The skin is not only thoroughly and noticeably hydrate, it is also looking more even and fine lines seems to have minimised in appearance.

What I Like:
  • For an anti-ageing cream, it is lightweight and absorbs easily into the skin
  • Reasonably priced for a high quality anti-ageing cream
  • Visible improvements in look and feel of skin after just a few week’s use
  • Very concentrated
  • A lovely fragrance

What I Don’t Like:
  • While it has a lovely fragrance, I am also going to put it down as a negative, as it is a little too fragranced for me to use too close to my sensitive eye area
  • Unfortunately it made my skin feel congested and greasy – but in saying that, I do have combination skin prone to breakouts, and the cream is recommended for normal to dry skin types, so hence not the ideal match for my skin type

Overall this is a lovely anti-ageing moisturiser, and I thoroughly enjoy using it on my decollate as it is unfortunately not suitable for my face. I am impressed with the results it has delivered after just a few weeks, so I can only hope that one day John Plunkett will also bring out an even lighter version suitable for those of us with combination and oilier skin types prone to breakouts.

  1. I love how subjective and honest your reviews are Karina :) I too, am not a huge fan of fragranced products as they actually aren't too amazing for our skin :( however it sounds like it worked well on your decolletage!

    1. Thanks so much Mischelle - apart from not being a fan of very fragranced facial moisturisers, this actually works really well on my décolletage, so I can only imagine how well it would work in the face for those with dry skin!
