Product Review: Benefit The POREfessional

I’ve always been used to my makeup sliding off my face at lunch time, starting to settle into fine lines, and change colour. That’s sadly the joy of having combination skin. And this has been even worse on the hot and humid summer days. That’s until I discovered primers, and what a difference it makes to the staying-power of my makeup. Here are my thoughts on the *Benefit The Porefessional;

What They Say:
"Quickly minimize the appearance of pores & fine lines for smoother-than-smooth skin! Apply this silky, lightweight balm alone, under or over makeup. Translucent, oil-free formula complements all skintones and helps makeup stay put. Contains a Vitamin E derivative, known to protect skin from free radicals.

RRP: $53 (22ml) – Available from Myer

What I Say:
By now, like I’m sure most of you, I had heard a lot of good things about the Benefit The POREfessional, so I was very excited to trial it, and see if it really did live up to all its positive reviews.

Like all other primers, the Benefit The POREfessional is intended to be used on top of your regular moisturiser and before your foundation, although it can also be used on top of your makeup.

The POREfessional, as the name suggests, has been designed to minimise the appearance of pores, which for someone like me with combination skin sounds fabulous.

As well as minimise the look of large pores, the main reason for using a primer is to help even out any imperfections, and create a more even canvas and a good base for your foundation, and makeup stay looking fresh for longer.

The POREfessional comes in a retro looking turquoise tube with a small screw lid. The actual primer has a pale beige tint, but once applied onto the skin it turns transparent, so it is suitable for all skin tones. It leaves the skin with nice even look and a silky soft matte finish.

And I was instantly impressed with the POREfessional. Even without putting makeup on top, my skin looks so much nicer and more even. Pores are seriously minimised, and so are fine lines and wrinkles. And with make up on top, it is just the perfect canvas. Even after a long day out, (even wet and damp ones!), my makeup still looks near perfect. My makeup is simply staying put, no sliding off, no colour fading, no settling into creases and lines of the face during the day!

Regardless of the foundation I use, and how longwearing it is, I always have to touch up by the afternoon – but with the POREfessional, a quick dusting with powder is sufficient to get rid of any shine, as it is simply so much less than what I am used to.

As recommended I also tried patting on a little of the POREfessional on my slightly shiny t-zone area and more visible pores by the afternoon, and it instantly both shine and pores were sent into hiding again. And without disturbing of smearing my makeup. Simple and easy!

The POREfessional oil-free, and it has a slight floral scent, which is quite nice, but still very subtle and fades quickly once the primer has absorbed into the skin, although a slights scent still lingers.

I have tried numerous other primers, and at $53 for a 22ml tube, the POREfessional, is one of the more expensive ones. But in saying that, it is extremely concentrate so you only need a tiniest amount for the full face, and of course even less if you just use it in your t-zone.

And using the POREfessional, does mean that I feel my skin requires less foundation, and not to mention, doesn’t require precious time or foundation touching up by the afternoon. And as the POREfessional can also be used during the day on top of your makeup when your skin gets shiny or your pores visible, this really is a fantastic multi-purpose primer, which definitely worth its price tag, so I will without doubt consider purchasing this again in the future

  2. Thank´s again for this really interesting test, dearest Karina, I always learn so much on your blog <3 Because I must admit that I never heard before in my life that something like the primer exists! But I think it´s a good idea to use it, because my makeup isn´t as fresh at midday like in the early morning!

    Hope you´re well and everything is perfect.
