PRODUCT REVIEW: HOW TO KEEP HANDS SOFT AND YOUNGER LOOKING WITH ENBACCI SKINCARE

I have all days been addicted to hand creams, as I simply don’t like the feeling of dry hands, and during winter it gets even worse. And it is super easy to forget looking after the hands, and we really should as they are one of the first areas to show signs of ageing. So I love that Enbacci has whole collection dedicated to keeping the hands softer, and more beautiful and younger looking.

PRODUCT REVIEW: PAULA'S CHOICE 1% RETINOL BOOSTER, PORE REFINING TREATMENT 2% BHA, YOUTH-EXTENDING DAILY HYDRATING FLUID AND PERFECT CLEANSING OIL

One of those brands you always hear a lot about is Paula’s Choice… The brand is founded by the Paula Begoun, who is also the author of the early 90s book, Don't Go To The Cosmetics Counter Without Me - a book I personally really loved at the time, as it was all about which beauty products were worth the hype and which ones weren’t...

PRODUCT REVIEW: ULTRACEUTICALS B2 SERUM, BALANCING CLEANSER, RED ACTION MOISTURISER

Today I've got a long overdue post about some products I got to try following an Ultraceuticals facial I had earlier in the year..

If you're not familiar with Ultraceuticals, do yourself a favour and get acquainted with the Australian professional grade brand. The products are cruelty free, and also free from all the harsh chemical ingredients such as propylene glycol, parabens, synthetic dyes or synthetic fragrances.

With my combination skin prone to breakouts, it is essential for me to cleanse my skin very thoroughly, and I've been loving the Ultraceuticals Ultra Balancing Gel Cleanser, which has been designed for normal to oily skin types. This cleanser promises to cleanse the skin and remove makeup and impurities without disturbing the skin's natural moisture balance. And while I did find it efficient with removing makeup, personally I've loved it as a second cleanse (sometimes with my Clairsonic or Foreo too). That way the added ingredients of Aloe Vera, Cucumber and Oat Kernel Extracts , along with the salicylic acid helps clean my skin deep down every single pore, washing away excess oil, and helping to keep my skin softer, smoother and clearer and brighter as well, and all without leaving my skin feeling tight or dry.

Then there's the Ultraceuticals Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum, which is an oil-free serum suitable for all skin types. It contains Provitamin B5 (Panthenol) and Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide) combined with high levels of Hyaluronic Acid to synergistically help restore vital moisture balance and provide long lasting hydration. It also helps support the skin's lipid barrier function and restore critical hydration levels within the skin, and thereby also helps to plump and reduce fine lines and wrinkles

While my skin again is combination, and I generally do not feel it lacks in the moisture department, it does tend to get drier in the cooler months of the year. I was initially a little scared that it would make my skin congested and cause it to breakout, but in actual fact I feel that it has somehow helped normalise the oil production, making it feel less greasy. And within days of using the Ultraceuticals Ultra B2 Hydrating Serum, my skin is left softer and smoother, and dare I say more glowing and thus youthful too. The serum comes in an a convenient pump bottle and it take just a few drops twice a day before your usual moisturiser.

The Ultraceuticals MD Ultimate Red-Action Moisturiser is a moisturiser developed to help address the major skin concerns of ageing and pigmentation, by supporting the skin’s essential lipid barrier function and Natural Moisturising Factor. The cream contains among others vitamin B3 (Niacinamide), and plankton extract which have been shown through clinical study to help reduce the appearance of facial redness associated with photo-ageing and sensitive skin. Now I don't have either sensitive skin, nor feel I am plagued with facial redness - but what I do have, is skin that is showing signs of photo-ageing, so I still happily put it to the test, but naturally cannot really speak of the true effects of this skin in regards to redness. I found the cream slightly too thick for me to use during the day, so have only been using it at night. And I have enjoyed seeing it add lots of extra moisture into my skin, leaving my skin feeling and looking soft and smooth.

These products are truly lovely, and I am so hooked on especially the cleanser and the SPF and know I'll be wanting to repurchase these again and again when they run out. And being so impressed with these products, I am also very keen to explore more of their huge product range.

Ultraceuticals B2 Hydrating Serum - $89 / 30ml
Ultraceuticals Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF50+ - RRP: $72 / 100ml

PRODUCT REVIEW: ALPHA-H GENTLE DAILY EXFOLIANT

Alpha-H is one of those brands that I've heard so many rave reviews about, but haven't really gotten around to trying out that many products myself, so I was naturally excited when the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant landed on my desk.

Alpha-H reveals that uneven skin tone and pigmentation can add or subtract as much as 12 years to a woman's age, but that the right SPF product and exfoliation can help press pause on this ageing process.

The Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant is a powdered exfoliant that is so gentle on the skin that it can be used daily, even on sensitive skin types, as it offers a zero-abrasion micro-exfoliating treatment.

To use you simply dispense a little bit of the fine powder into the palm of your hand, and then mix it with a bit of water to create a paste. This part is a little tricky until you get the hang of it, as you can easily dispense too much, as well as it is easy to add to much water making it too runny. But it is worth it! The powder contains a combination of fruit enzymes from green papaya and pineapple which are activated by the water, and they help gently buff away dead and dull skin cells, leaving your skin soft and smooth - and by exfoliating daily, it also helps speed up the renewal process of new healthy skin cells, and in turn helps the skin look healthier and younger.

Alpha-H promises that it helps brighten the skin, minimise pores and make skin less greasy - and while I am not sure my skin is brighter, after using this exfoliant daily for a few weeks, my skin is definitely more refined and appears to be less greasy, and as a result, I feel I'm getting less breakouts - and being less greasy also means that my makeup seems to stay put looking nice for longer. So in general my skin really is looking a lot healthier, and I love that it is so gentle that I can use it every morning, definitely highly recommended.

So overall I really love these products and would now hate to be without both, so certainly keen on exploring more products from their large range.

Any Alpha-H products that you can recommend that are must-haves?

Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant - RRP: $62 / 50g

PRODUCT REVIEW: LITTLE INNOSCENTS ORGANIC BABY SKINCARE

I've always been vary of what skincare products I use on my two boys skin. They are both very blonde and fair, and while they do not specifically suffer from dermatitis or any other skin concerns, they do seem to have very sensitive skin. So I was naturally excited when I was introduced to the Little Innoscents Organic Baby Skincare range.

The Little Innoscents Organic Baby Skincare range is an Australian made and owned range, and all the products contain nothing but effective natural ingredients.

Let's start with the Little Innoscents Baby Wipes. These wipes have been infused with aloe vera and vitamin E, and they are PH balanced and super gentle and suitable for even the most sensitive baby skin. I love that they are so thick that they can handle even a very 'messy' bum! I also love that they are free from chemicals so they are also safe to use to wipe down faces and sticky fingers. When our youngest was new born, he had a little bit of nappy rash, that flared up each time we used wipes, so eventually we resorted to using just water and cotton balls for a while, which was naturally difficult when we were out and about, so these wipes would have been so handy to have then as they would without a doubt have made a difference.

The Hair & Body Wash is an all-in-one product that is loaded with natural plant extracts including spearmint, sweet orange, and it has the most gorgeous fresh fruity scent. The gel is free from sulphates, yet it still foams up well, and gently cleanses both hair and body, and while I did intend for this to be used on my two little boys only, I have to admit to having used it too as a shower gel, as I simply couldn't resist it with the beautiful sent.

Then there's the Intensive Soothing Cream, which is an organic healing cream packed with shea butter, rosewood, lavender and avocado oils, and calendula extract, and since we've been using it on our little boys bottoms at every nappy change, they've not had one red bum, even the usual nasty teething periods that has always left both my boys with sore bottoms leaves, we've gotten over with a hitch, thanks to this cream. And I love that it can also be used on other rashes and dermatitis to help heal and soothe the skin.

The Winter Blues Balm, which is also called Baby Vapour Rub Balm, we got a the perfect time, as our 3.5 year old got hit with a bad cold, his first cold in about 1.5 years.

The balm contains medicinal essential oils including wintergreen and eucalyptus, as well as lemon, peppermint, and rosemary and beeswax, and it helps the baby breathe a little easier and avid nasal congestion and stuffy noses. And it is still so gentle, that it is even suitable to use on newborns! So when our boy was struggling to breathe at night, because he was so snotty, a little of this fresh and zesty smelling balm rubbed into his chest and feet, and it clearly helped him relax and breathe better in no time.

Finally, there's the Hair Fudge, and having a 3.5yo that is more or less refusing to leave the house unless his hair is waxed or gelled up, I was excited putting this one to the test - especially as he at times complains that his head is itch at the end of the day, after we've used certain gels or waxes in his hair. This hair fudge contains no alcohol, parabens or SLS, and with all its natural ingredients including rosewood and orange essential oils, it is also very gentle. It promises to give the hair a strong hold, but without any white flakes or residue on the hair or scalp, and it can be used in both wet or dry hair. Our little boy, being so blonde, also has very fine hair, and sadly, this fudge just didn't hold his hair in place, yes, it did tame it and control the flyaways, but unfortunately it just didn't have sufficient hold for his messy or 'spiky hair-do. But it works perfectly on little brother's baby hairs that are still a bit wild as they are still growing out, and again, I love that the fudge is so natural, that I can use this on him, without any concerns.

So there you go, a selection of Little Innoscents Organic Baby Skincare products. I've enjoyed using all on my little boys, and particularly fallen for the wipes, hair & body wash, the soothing cream and the sun lotion, and I'm very keen on putting other products from the range to the test too, including the Moisture Rich Body Lotion, the Paw Paw Balm, as well as some of the Himalayan Bath Salts and Home Cleaning Products.

Little Innoscents Baby Wipes - RRP: $6.50 / 80 wipes
Little Innoscents Hair & Body Wash - RRP: $12.95 / 250ml
Little Innoscents Intensive Soothing Cream - RRP: $10.99 / 75ml
Little Innoscents Winter Blues Balm - RRP: $10.99 / 75ml
Little Innoscents Sun Lotion SPF30 - $19.99 / 100ml
Little Innoscents Hair Fudge - RRP: $10.99 / 75ml

BEAUTYDIRECTORY EXPERT PANEL - NIVEA Q10 ANTI-WRINKLE DAY CREAM SPF30+

As you may have seen a little while ago, I have been selected to be a part of the beautydirectory Expert Panel, which is such an honour as out of all the amazing Australian blogs, there are only a total of Australian 10 bloggers and vloggers who are a part of this Expert Panel. For those of you who don’t know, beautydirectory is an online resource for the Australian and New Zealand beauty industry, providing beauty editors, including beauty bloggers and vloggers with essential industry news and new product information. Here is my first review of the *Nivea Q10 Anti-wrinkle Day Cream SPF 30+;

What They Say:
The Nivea Q10 plus Anti-Wrinkle Day Cream SPF 30+ promises to provide the skin with defence against sun-induced premature ageing such as fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. The included Coenzyme Q10 works supports the skin cells’ own energy source to naturally repair and renew it self.

RRP: $19.55 (50ml) – Available from supermarkets, Priceline and select pharmacies

What I Say:
I have always loved Nivea. I grew up using the thick cream in the blue metal tub, and as well as on my face and body, I also used it as an intense hair treatment, and in smaller quantities to tame my 80’ies perm. Those where the days when the choice in haircare products wasn’t as great as it is today. But anyway, I do have fond memories of Nivea offering products of such great value.

Fast forward a few decades – and I’ve now got combination skin (and would today never dream of using that thick Nivea cream in my face!) – and sadly my skin is also ageing with all that comes with it, including beginning lines and wrinkles (including a frown line between my brows that is particularly starting to bother me), and not to mention increasing pigmentation and hence more and more uneven and dull skin, I was quite excited to be trialling this cream that promises to help correct these issues, and especially seeing it comes with a purse-friendly price tag of under $20.

Having combination skin that easily breaks out, and especially if using heavy and concentrated creams and serums, – and having just been through a period where my skin has been crazy with horrible breakouts, I am always a little concerned when I trial new moisturisers and in particular anti-ageing creams.

The cream is quite thick and concentrated, so I only need to use the tiniest amount on my combination skin, and it does absorb into the skin quite quickly, leaving it feeling soft and moisturised, without leaving behind a greasy feeling. So it’s also suitable for use under foundation, which you’d on the other hand would also expect.

After just a few weeks use I noticed that my skin started feeling more moisturised. After the four weeks of using the cream, I am relieved to say that I have so far not experienced any increase in the amounts of actual breakouts that I have had, but on my chin, which is where I recently experienced the main breakouts, my skin is feeling a little greasier so I am unsure if it is due to the cream or just the current state of my skin.

As for living up to its claims, my skin is looking more plumb, and consequently fine lines and wrinkles seems to have minimised, although only marginally, but it does mean that my skin is looking healthy. As for reducing the appearance of dark spots I am not so sure, a few minor spots and pigmentation may have marginally reduced in size, but it is really difficult to tell. I am also getting paler and paler, and any pigmentation consequently also seems less noticeable, as the summer sun is a faint memory, which may also explain it. But it is also important to note that those spots have taken years to develop, so I also didn’t expect to see them gone after just 4 weeks – as with all creams, it will take a more long term approach to see any significant changes.

The cream has the typical and pleasant floral Nivea Scent, which disappears quickly once absorbed into the skin, and it comes in a small heavy glass jar, with a white lid. And while I do like jars, because you can see exactly how much you have left, and you can use every last bit of cream, I do find it a little unhygienic, also because having combination skin, I use a very small amount of cream so a jar will last me a very long time, (I’ve hardly used a ¼ of the cream during the test period) so it would surely be much better if the cream was better sealed to avoid long term contamination, or alternatively came with a small spatula.

The cream comes SPF30+ to help protect the skin against future external damage caused by the sun, which is also a bonus as it saves me using an additional cream with SPF on top, but on the other hand the added SPF is also an absolute requirement when you live under the harsh Australia sun.

Overall, at just $19.55 this is an anti-ageing cream is great value for money, and a great multi-tasking product too, providing the skin with intense moisture whilst protecting it from the sun at the same time. If you’re on a budget, then you’ve got nothing to lose by giving this Q10 Anti-wrinkle Day Cream SPF 30+ a go.

Product Review: Lust Have It – January 2014 Box

Yet again time for another beauty box review, this time of the Lust Have It  January 2014 Box. Yep, it is the January box, which rolled up on my doorstep on the 10th of February – some two weeks later than usual….not really sure why it is late, and it is almost a February box –  regardless, as I have been sent this box for consideration, I really have no complaints. And moving house, and living in a holiday house for a few weeks until we could move into our new house, and consequently meant no permanent internet connection, hopefully explains why I am posting about this box so late…  Anyway, here are my thoughts on the Lust Have It – January 2014 Box;

What They Say:

Lust Have It boxes regularly contains products worth $60+ for only $19.95/month! Monthly box filled with 5 to 6 premium beauty samples. Delivered to your home or work each month for you to try.

RRP:
Lust Have It Box (monthly) RRP: $19.95, Eco Box (quarterly) RRP: $29.95 – but if you use my unique code LIFESTYLE at the checkout on the Lush Have It website, you are eligible for $5 off your first box from Lust Have It, and at the same time you’ll also be supporting Beauty & Lifestyle Hunter, as I will get a few dollars too if someone subscribes using this code.

Available from Lust Have It

What I Say:

Invisible Zinc Tinted Daywear SPF30+ - Full Size (RRP $14.95/20ml)

This is a sunscreen and tinted day cream in one, and I really like this one – I first tried it last month, when the January Issue of Marie Claire came with a sample tube of it, and I instantly liked it, and have been considering buying a tube, so getting one in the box is just a bonus! It has a sheer coverage, and like most other sunscreens it doesn’t stay put on my skin all day, but a quick dusting of powder mid-day solves that. I got the colour Medium, which is a little dark, and I would have preferred the Light colour, but seeing its summer and I do have a bit of a summer tan, I think I can just get away with it!

Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel – Sample Size 30ml – (RRP $45.80/118ml)

I love the inclusion of this gel. Firstly, I’ve never tried Paula’s Choice, so I am excited to finally be able to. Secondly, this gel promises to exfoliate the skin’s surface to fade signs of sun damage – just what my skin needs – so I really can’t wait to test this one out. And it is a generous 30ml sample, so I should be able to get a fair idea of how the gel works.

The box also included a coupon for free freight of your next order from Paul’s Choice, and with no minimum spend required, so that is a good offer.

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Facial Wipes – Sample Size, 7 wipes (RRP $6.99/25 wipes)

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I am not a regular user of facial wipes, and predominantly use them when I go overseas as I find them handy to have in my hand luggage, but with a baby, I don’t plan to go anywhere anytime soon, so the inclusion of these unfortunately does not excite me. In saying that, I may find use for them as hand wipes in my nappy bag ;-) Alternatively, they always come in handy next to my computer when I am swatching makeup for blogging purposes.

Model Co Shine Ultra Lip Gloss – Full Size (RRP $18/4ml)

I don’t mind this lipgloss, it is moisturising, and has next to no colour, just leaving a nice gloss to the lips, or on top of a lipstick, - however, I already have a few of these in my stash of lipglosses. I am certain that the exact same colour lipgloss was in another beauty box only recently, but I cannot for the life of me remember which one! So while it adds great value to the box, unfortunately this one doesn’t excite me this time around! I could only wish that ModelCo would have included a different type of product from their range.

Aveda Dry Remedy Daily Moisturising Oil – Sample Size, 3ml (RRP $25/40ml)

This oil is to increase the hairs moisture levels by 41% without weighing it down or making it look greasy, and I love that it has been formulated without silicones, so there is no build up in the hair. I love the inclusion of this one as my hair is always a little dry this time of year when it is so hot, but I only wish that the sample had been a little bigger, as with my very long and thick hair, there is hardly sufficient product for one use.

The box also included a coupon with the offer of free shipping and a free Dry Remedy sample trio, with shampoo, conditioner and masque  (10ml each) when you purchase a Dry Remedy Daily Moisturising Oil from Aveda.

Evodia Lemon Sorbet Hand Cream – Full Size (RRP $17.95/100ml)

I love citrus scented products, so I love love love that this hand cream is included. And even though I already have more hand creams on the go than I should, and had made a promise not to open another one until I’d finished up a couple, I just couldn’t resist, I just had to try it and smell it, and simply smells divine. And as promised, the hand cream which contains vitamin E, shea butter, macadamia oil, jojoba oil, cocoa butter, olive oil and Kakadu plum, leaves the hands feeling soft without leaving them feeling greasy. And this is also the first product I’ve ever tried from Evodia, and I love it, so I will definitely be checking out the rest of their product range.

Finally, the box also included a card with a teaser for the February Box…. It will include a deluxe sample of Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel….. Whoa…..I am excited about that one. I have long had it on my wish list to try out this peel from Juice Beauty, so I can’t wait for this one….

Overall, I think this box is still a good box, as I love the inclusions of the Evodia Hand Cream, the Paula’ Choice Gel and the Invisible Zinc Tinted moisturiser – and consequently, for me, the box is well worth its price. The Aveda Oil, the facial wipes are good additions, and although I am not too excited about receiving yet another ModelCo lipgloss, I am sure I can find it a new home where it will be well appreciated.

Product Review: Lust Have It – December Box

It is that time of month again. The time when the monthly beauty boxes arrives. This morning I woke to the lovely surprise of finding the *December Lust Have It Box by my front door, and here are my thoughts on its contents;

What They Say:
"Lust Have It boxes regularly contains products worth $60+ for only $19.95/month! Monthly box filled with 5 to 6 premium beauty samples. Delivered to your home or work each month for you to try."

RRP: Lust Have It Box (monthly) RRP: $19.95, Eco Box (quarterly) RRP: $29.95 – but read on to find out how to get a discount on your first box..
Available from Lust Have It

What I Say:
As per previous months, this month’s Lust Have It box also comes in a box with a magnetic closure and the new white design with the pretty blue, pink, orange and red water colour floral design.

And here’s a rundown of the goodies in this month’s box:

Maybelline New York Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream – Full Size (RRP: $15.95/30ml)

These days I tend to wear more BB, CC creams and tinted moisturisers, so I am definitely happy about receiving this one in a full size. It has 8 benefits for the skin, and is lightweight and oil free, so perfect for my combination skin. I got the medium shade, which is perfect for my skin now that the sun has gently kissed my cheeks!

Maybelline New York Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream with 2% Salicylic Acid – Sample Sachet, 1ml - (RRP: $15.95/30ml)
I have already received one of these sachet samples from somewhere, and I quite liked it, especially now that it is summer, and my combination skin in general gets a little greasier, and also breaks out a little more frequently. In saying that, on a daily basis, I do not have that many breakouts, so I am quite happy to have received the full sized tube of the standard BB Cream instead.

Pelactiv Hydrating Cream Cleanser – Sample Size, 30ml (RRP: $43/150ml)

This Cream Cleanser is intended for normal to dry skin types, and as I have combination skin prone to breakouts, I would have preferred to receive the Foaming Cleanser for normal to oily skin types that I know is also an option in this month’s box. But Pelactiv is one of those brands that I have had on my wish list to try, so it certainly won’t go to waste. The 30ml sample tube is a generous size, so there’s sufficient cleanser to try it out several times.

Uriage Aquaprecis refreshing Gel-Cream – Sample size, 15ml (RRP: $49.95/40ml)

This gel moisturiser is intended for combination skin, and aims to moisturise for 24 hour, without making the skin feel greasy or drowned in moisture. This sounds like the perfect moisturiser for my skin during summer, so I can’t wait to test it out. Besides, Uriage is yet another brand that I’ve wanted to try, so again I’m very happy with the inclusion of this sample.

SunSense Anti-Ageing Face SPF30+ - Full Size (RRP: $20.95/100ml)

I have used the SunSense sunscreen products previous and in fact recently purchased a SPF for the body as I really like their products, so I am very stoked with this full sized face cream being included. I also love that it is a specific anti-ageing cream that helps to reduce wrinkles with aid from the included AHA’s, Vitamins E and B3. I also love that it is free from fragrance, PABA and lanolin, and that it has an oil-free base and is non-comedogenic so it hopefully won’t make my skin break out

Clairol Visible Repair Intensive Mask – Sample Size, 30ml (RRP: $13.95/200ml)

There were two different options of masks included in the boxes, one for coloured hair, or the one I got for dry hair. Considering I just had my hair coloured at the hair dresser a week ago, I would have preferred the one for coloured hair, but as my long hair is always a bit dry in the ends, it still won’t go to waste. I don’t remember ever trying any Clairol hair products either, so I do look forward to testing it out.

Finally, the box also included a voucher for $100 off a case of wine, so you can get a box for $100. This is a great offer to fill the wine rack, but as I am still breast feeding and hence still completely off the alcohol, I will not be making use of this offer.

As per previous boxes I love how the Lust Have It box contains a variety of different products, including skincare, makeup and hair and body care and this month also sunscreen, which couldn’t have been better timing, just in time for the holidays.

This month’s box includes two full sized products including the Maybelline BB Cream and the SunSense sunscreen, and the value of these two products are almost $37, so well above the $19.95 price tag for the box. In addition the box also contains some generous sample sizes of brands Pelactiv, Uriage and Clairol, neither of which I have tried, so all in all, I am yet again impressed with not only the selection of product, but also the value for money of this box. You’ve done it again Lust Have It!
