FATHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS - PERSONAL CARE

Just a few more days to go now, so In the next and final instalment of my father's day gift ideas, today it is all about personal care items...

First up there's the Milkman Grooming Co Spring Rider After Shave Serum, which is a fragranced After Shave Serum that combines a daily moisturiser to hydrate, protect and nourish with an alcohol-free after shave to soothe, tighten and tone the skin. It contains among others witch hazel, aloe vera and allantoin, along with high-end moisturisers and anti-oxidants you would usually expect to see in a much more expensive day creams including hyaluronic acid, kakadu plum extract, beta glucan plus vitamins E and B5, and I love the fact that its made with out any chemical nasties such as parabens and sulphates, silicones, mineral oils or artificial colours. And its made with love in Australia.

The fragrance is a unique Spring edition, and is particularly scented to be relevant to spring, combining masculine notes of leather and musk, with the light floral scents so typical of spring.

Milkman Grooming Co plans on launching further seasonal fragrances throughout this year to coincide with Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Spring Rider leaves my hubby's skin feeling soft and smooth following his daily shave, and leaves it smelling fresh and masculine without irritating or drying out his sensitive skin.

My hubby never ever leaves the house without doing his hair, so for him, quality hair care products such as these from MUK are brilliant choices too. I love the fact that MUK is a professional haircare brand that is local from Melbourne, Australia, and the products really are top notch. The styling range includes several different styling pastes, each different brightly coloured packaging, and each with the most gorgeous fruity scent. The MUK Raw MUK Styling Mud is a paste that gives the hair firm hold and with a nice gloss, that makes the hair look shiny, glossy and healthy. It has the most divine mango fragrance. Or there's the MUK Hard MUK Styling Mud, which gives the hair a brutal but flexible hold with a low sheen finish, and it has a beautiful fresh citrus orange scent. My husband particularly loves the Raw MUK as it makes his short hair stay put all day. And then there's our two little boys, aged 2 and 4, like their daddy, they insist on getting their hair done when we go out, but can never leave it alone, so the Hard MUK is perfect for their fine blonde hair, as gives a flexible hold so you can continue to re-style their hair throughout the day But regardless of which one you pick, they make styling the hair so easy and makes it look great all day without flaking and even surviving high humidity, all while making the hair look stylish and healthy.

For the skin, there's also the Ella Bache Men's Anti Fatique Espresso Detox Scrub, which is specifically designed for tired lack-lustre male skin. The detoxifying scrub contains among others bamboo fibres to give the skin a gentle exfoliation to smooth away rough dry skin. It also contains barley seedling extract to add proteins, enzymes, vitamins, minerals and phyto-nutrients to the skin to improve the metabolism, along with ginseng and guarana and green coffee to stimulate and improve micro-circulation and erase the signs of tiredness. The scrub has a slightly spicy and masculine scent, and it doesn't feel particularly gritty, but hubby happily says that leaves his skin feeling very soft and smooth, and with a refreshing glow, with the coffee clearly giving his skin a much needed wake-up call in the morning.

And Daddy is sure to love a handwritten personal card, such as one of the humorous greeting card from the Hallmark Shoebox collection. There are heaps of different cards to chose from, from naughty, witty, crude to pure daggy daddy cards, so there 's something for everyone and for every sense of humour too.

THREE OF A KIND: THERMAL HAIR STYLING PRODUCTS

Today on the blog I’m looking into three different products to help protect your hair from thermal damage when you are using heat styling products such as hair dryers, straighteners, and curlers. I have to be honest and admit that I do not heat style my hair on a daily basis. Not because I don’t want to. But as a stay-at-home mum, I simply see no need to. And besides, having long and thick hair, it does take quite a while, time I simply often have with a toddler running around my legs demanding attention. But on the days where I do style my hair, and not just put it up in the usual bun on top of my head, these are my current go to products;

Suigo Hairlook Arts S03 Thermal Protection

This Thermal Protection spray from Suigo, has the cutest bottle and packaging of the products I’m mentioning today, although at the same time, it is also the smallest. The Thermal Protector, is in actual fact a multi-tasking product, as it not only protects the hair from heat and UV damage, but at the same time, as it also contains aloe extract, it is also hydrating and moisturising on the hair. It leaves the hair feeling soft and shiny, with a flexible hold, and any sign of frizz is more or less eliminated, without leaving behind a greasy residue. The spray bottle makes it easy to dispense just the right amount, and I love the fresh fruity scent that smells a little like peaches, and it leaves the hair beautifully scented for hours.
RRP: $21.50 (100ml) – Available from Suigo

Muk Hot Muk Thermal Protection

This thermal protection spray from Muk provides the hair with protection from heat styling tools up to 230 degrees. You just need a few sprays of the fine mist, and after styling your hair is left with a nice non-greasy finish with a beautiful healthy shine. It also contains UV filters so it helps protect your hair from sun damage, and seals the hair to protect from frizz at the same time. Of today’s line-up it has the most beautiful scent of green apples, which I just can’t get enough of, so luckily it does linger around in the hair long after you’ve finished styling it. I love the silver bottle with the trigger nozzle that makes it easy to dispense. It comes in a huge bottle, and is hence also very reasonably priced, the cheapest of the three!

RRP: $24.95 (250ml) – Available from Hairhouse Warehouse and Price Attack

Kerastase Nutritive Nectar Thermique

Finally, the Nutritive Nectar Thermique from Kerastase is the most expensive of the three products. And unlike the other two, it comes in a tube and has a creamy texture, much like a conditioner or a leave-in treatment. And as it has been formulated with Royal Jelly extract and contains carbohydrates, proteins and lipids, it actually doubles as a leave-in treatment as well, and I’ve found myself using it also on the days where I am not heat styling my hair, instead of my usual leave-in conditioner just after washing my hair. The treatment is extremely concentrated, so you only need a little, and you have to be very cautious not to use too much, as otherwise it will leave the hair feeling a little greasy, but really that is only a good things, as it will make the tube last so much longer. Used as a heat protectant, it leaves your hair so soft and healthy and shiny looking, even my ends are clearly benefitting from this treatment when used frequently.

RRP: $48 (150ml) – Available from Select Hair Salons

THREE OF A KIND: SEA SALT SPRAYS

With long, thick and straight-ish hair, I don’t use sea salt spray very often, as I simply have too much hair for it to really have an effect and make a difference. Still, I like having some at hand. I like using it to spray generously through my long hair at night before going to bed. And while my hair is still damp from the spray, I put my hair into a tight plait. The next morning I wake with lovely loose casual curls, that with a quick mist of hairspray stay put all day. I also love using sea salt spray in my little boy’s hair. His blonde hair is so thin and fine that gel doesn’t do much, while the sea salt water adds a little texture and a tousled look to his hair. These are the Sea Salt Sprays I’ve enjoyed using lately;

MUK Beach MUK Sea Salt Spray

Out of today’s selection, the Beach MUK Sea Salt Spray is giving the hair the most matte texture, but I don’t mind, as it is a refreshing change, as if I am not using Sea Salt Sprays, I am usually using heaps hair oils that adds shine to the hair! I love that this one is both oil and silicone free, and it has the most gorgeous fruity scent. The spray can be used in both wet and dry hair, and just a few sprays into my straight and limp hair, and pronto, I’ve got some much needed volume and texture, yet without making my hair feel dry or sticky.

RRP: $24.95 (250ml) – Available from Hairhouse Warehouse and Price Attack

Bangstyle Light Sea Salt Mist

As the name suggests, the Bangstyle Light Sea Salt Mist is the lightest formula, so it only adds a touch of subtle definition and texture, that surprisingly lasts quite well in the hair throughout the day. As Bangstyle so nicely puts it “Imagine 10,000 mermaids blowing the ocean breeze from a cool banana leaf. This is sort of like that but without the leaf or the imaginary mermaids." Gotta love that! It is a non-sticky formula and unlike many other sea salt sprays it also gives the hair a nice natural shine. I also love that it is paraben free and that it contains sunscreen to help protect your hair from the sun’s harsh rays!

RRP: $25.95 (150ml) – Available from My Haircare

O&M Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray

I love using this Surf Bomb Sea Salt Spray in my little 20 month old boy. He has very fine blonde hair, and because it is so fine, I so far haven’t had much luck using other styling products in his hair, as being so fine it back to being flat in no time. But not with the Surf Bomb, it actually works. It adds a little volume to his hair, all while adding a nice texture and hold. It doesn’t go stiff in the hair, so even though me runs his hands through his hair, which he often does, trying to style his own hair, - you can continue to set it throughout the day into an effortless and casual look. I love that it doesn’t leave his hair feeling sticky, and it smells amazing too!

RRP: $23 (150ml) – Available from Miss Pearl Store

So there you go, three different Sea Salt Sprays, all with different formulas and benefits, and at different price points too, so there is something for everyone and for every occasion!

Do you ever use Sea Salt Sprays? Any recommendations? What do you use to add texture to your hair?
