PRODUCT REVIEW: CALVIN KLEIN DEEP EUPHORIA EDT

I admit that I have a lot of perfume favourites, and my list is ever increasing. But there are always a few brands that are on the top of my list, and where I keep my eyes out for new releases, because I know I will more than likely love their new scents even before I smell them. One such brand is Calvin Klein. I own a lot of the scents, including 'originals' and also 'spin offs' such as lighter or perhaps simply slightly different versions of the originals. I also wore Calvin Klein at my wedding, Eternity - a beautiful scent - at the time of my wedding I was already up to my bottle number three of the scent (which says a lot for me, considering my huge perfume collection), and my husband to be, was also already using the male version as one of his favourites - so it made sense for us both to wear it, and what better name for a fragrance to wear at a wedding anyway! Anyway, enough babble, onto the newest Calvin Klein launch, the Calvin Klein Deep Euphoria EDT. 

Again I actually already have the original and really love it, and this new version is again no different. The original version of the Euphoria was launched many years ago, and must have been a sure hit with a new version now hitting the shelves. The new Deep Euphoria contains among others;

 

• Top Notes - Cascalone, mandarin leaf and white pepper
• Middle Notes - Black rose, geranium and jasmine sambac
• Base Notes - Musk, pachouli and woody notes

 

Deep Euphoria is a fruity rose scent that dries down to a warm floral and very feminine scent. I am not a huge fan of rose scents on their own, finding them somewhat 'old-woman'ish", but that is far from the case with Deep Euphoria.

 

I find it such a gorgeous scent, as it is neither too spicy, or too sweet, but a beautiful sophisticated scent with just the rose scent lingering. It is 'just' an EDT, but still, I find that it lasts well on the skin, as if I put it on in the morning, I can still detect it at the end of the day, although if I do go out at night again, I do find that a refreshing top-up squirt is nice.

  

It come sin the most stunning deep dark pinky-purple bottle, which apart from the shade is like the original one, but although it was launched years ago, it is as modern and stunning now as it was then. For me Deep Euphoria is sure to be a autumn and winter favourite.

MOTHERS DAY GIFT IDEAS - PART TWO

Or what about a Freestyle Detangler Brush, which has flexible bristles that makes it so easy to comb out and detangle your hair whether it is wet or dry, as it glides through the hair smoothly and gently without pulling or dragging the hair, thanks to the epoxy tips, which also helps smooth down the hair and prevent frizz and flyaways. This hairbrush is super lightweight, and has an ergonomic handle too, so it is easy to hold, and it is also heat resistant so you can use it when heat styling it. And because it is so lightweight it is also perfect to pop into your handbag as it wont weigh it down either.

HAPPY NEW YEAR - FEATURING PARTY FAVOURITES

Happy New Year everyone. Thanks to everyone for all the support throughout 2016, I really appreciate how you've all stuck by me in a time where I had other things on my mind. 2016 has been a tough year for our little family, and one that has been dominated with hospital visits for our little boy, and stressing about how he would recover. While our boy is a tough little cooking, and is doing really well, the battle isn't over yet, and the next year will also be dominated by speaking to lots of doctors, I am so looking forward to the start a new year and what can only be better and happier year for our little family. 

With two little toddlers, there are no huge New Year's party in sight for me, but regardless, here are a couple of my ultimate party essentials, some of which are also some of my fave products from 2016…

This Cool Clutch is simply so beautiful that it has to be the clutch of choice for the last and first party of the year. It is hand sown with hundreds of pearls and diamantes, and is sure to dress up any outfit and be the statement of the party. It also has an insulated so your makeup won't melt in the heat of the night.

On my eyes, I just can't get enough of the Lancome Grandiose Mascara. Applying it takes a little getting used to, but once you've mastered the different comb angles, it gives the best fluttering lashes, as close to fakes as you can possibly come.

On my lips, I just cannot get enough of the Sisley Paris Phyto Lip Gloss in the shade Rouge as it simply has the most beautiful intense red shade with a nice glossy look and it stay put for hours. Perfect for a night out.

And of course, what's a party without a bit of glow, and for that, I have to reach for the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick, which just gives the most yet natural glow.

Then on to a spritz of perfume, and just cannot go past one of this years great releases, the CK ONE GOLD from Calvin Klein. It has the most beautiful fresh fruity scent that makes it great for a hot summer night, and just cannot get enough of that beautiful golden bottle.

Finally, cannot neglect the nails, so a couple of coats of the Attitude Attitude, a beautiful red shade from Essie, and all is set.

The drink of choice would have to be the Prosecco Ice, as it has such a refreshing fruity taste. It is a very fragrant Spumante that is great with ice and a slice or lime or a couple of mint leaves, or go the classic way and add a strawberry of two.

PRODUCT REVIEW: CK ONE GOLD EAU DE TOILETTE

I have always been a massive fan of CK fragrances and have quite a few of them in my collection - and also the original CK ONE which was launched way back in 1994! Now CK is releasing a new limited edition version called CK ONE GOLD, which is, like the original, also a unisex or should we call it gender-neutral scent, and it draws inspiration from the myth of Kind Midas, who turned everything he touched into gold. Oh I wish!! 

 
According to CK ONE GOLD, "Be brave. Stand out from the crowd. Everything you touch exudes gold", and is described as a "seasonal, youthful scent of juicy and fresh woody character which supposedly combines the power of both sexes.

Let's first talk about the bottle. It comes in the iconic CK ONE bottle, but how stunning and unique is GOLD version with the gold dripping down from the neck to the body of the bottle. Nothing short of stunning, and so luxurious looking too.  

The notes in CK ONE GOLD are; 

• Top Notes: Fig, bergamot and sage
• Heart Notes: Neroli, jasmine and violet
• Base Notes: Vetiver, patchouli and guaiac wood

These notes actually surprises me, as spin-offs are usually somewhat similar in many notes, and these notes are very different from the original CK ONE, which contains;

• Top Notes: Pineapple, green notes, mandarin orange, papaya, bergamot, cardamom and lemon
• Middle Notes: Nutmeg, violet, orris root, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley and rose
• Base Notes: Sandalwood, amber, musk, cedar and oakmoss

So apart from the jasmine in the base notes, all other notes are very different in the two scents!

The new CK ONE GOLD still has a juicy freshness and lightness thanks to the fig, but apart from that it is a slightly warmer and more sensual scent than the original, which I also find to be more of an aqua scent. Because of its freshness, CK ONE GOLD, is still the perfect spring and summer scent - and while I do see the jasmine, violet, neroli and patchouli to be more feminine notes, yet it is surprisingly still suitable for males, as it is as if the sage and woody notes appear to become more noticeable when my husband wears the scent.

The freshness of the scent, does meant that it sadly doesn't have the greatest of wear, so you do need to reapply mid-day to keep the scent noticeable.

But overall I really like this scent, it is so very different from the original, yet a refreshing change - and as it is limited edition beautiful scent is sure to fly off the shelves, and with its stunning unique golden bottle sure to become a collectors item, so make sure you check out before its too late!

FATHER'S DAY GIFT IDEAS: FRAGRANCE EDITION

With Father's Day getting closer, today I've got a few more great gift ideas to share, and today its all about fragrances.

Let's start with the New Ralph Lauren Polo Blue Eau de Parfum. My husband has been a huge fan of the original Polo Blue, so this newer and stronger version was immediately a hit with him. The fragrance has the spirit of a heroic adventurer and the seductive power of a Regatta champion in mind, as he leads his comrades to a glorious victory, while taking the classic Polo scent to a 'deeper, more sophisticated intensity.”

The new Polo Blue contains;

Top Notes: Bergamot, Cardamom, Marine accord
Middle Notes: Blue Orris Accord, Basil Verbena, Clary Sage
Base Notes: Vetiver, Suede Accord, Patchouli, Vibrant Woods

The fragrance has a sparkling freshness thanks to the marine accords, yet also has an intense woodiness due to the vibrant woods and vetiver. The fragrance comes in a simplistic and sleek cobalt-blue, flask-shaped glass bottle, with chrome edging. My husband is saying that he likes that it is more intense than the original, and it has longer staying power so it lasts lasting all day. He also likes the fresh fruitiness that is not overbearing, perfect timing in the lead up to summer. A newfound favourite.

Next is the Calvin Klein CK2 Eau de Toilette, which is actually a unisex scent, so giving this to your other half, means that you can pinch a squirt here and there, which is huge bonus, LOL.

This fragrance contains;

Top Notes; Wasabi, mandarin, pear and violet leaf.
Middle Notes: Pebbles, orris root, rose absolue, peony, and hedione
Base Notes: Vevetier, sandalwood, incense, and white musk

This is a much lighter scent, and it is a fresh and citrusy aqua scent, and it is a simple, yet lovely scent. It comes in unique minimalistic cylinder glass bottle that can sit on the square cap to keep the bottle upside down. Because it is light, the wear is not as long, but it is perfect for those casual days where you just want a light scent.

Then there's Calvin Klein Obsession Summer Eau de Toilette. Both my husband and I have always been huge fans of Calvin Klein fragrances, including the original Obsession, which however is a very heavy scent and best kept for winter - and it is no secret that I personally am a fan of lighter scents, so excited about the newly launched Obsession Summer. This scent has been described as evocative, fluid and pure, where “Passion is awakened at the height of the summer heat. Sensuality becomes fluid like the cool breeze of azure waters". It contains artemisia, blue sage and cedar and it is a fresh airy aqua scent, which again is perfect for a hot summers day. My husband has really taken to this one too, saying it is a refreshing change to the heavy original Obsession, and he likes the lightness, yet that it is still masculine and slightly woody too.

Because of the freshness of this scent, it also means that it does seem to fade a little quicker, although still lasting through the day, only it is quite faint on the skin by the end of the day.

The Obsession Summer comes in a stunning clear aqua blue bottle with a darker turquoise lid, which instantly reminds you of an azure blue ocean.

Finally, the Davidoff Horizon Eau de Toilette, which is a new fragrance that symbolises the connection between earth and air and draws inspiration from the forces of nature, representing freedom, adventure and exploration. "Here he is, far from the beaten track. Before him mountains stretch out in an endless landscape that touches the sky".

It contains among others:

Top Notes: Grapefruit, rosemary, mandarin, ginger
Middle Notes: Patchouli, cedar, nutmeg, pepper, sesame,
Base Notes: Vevetier, cacao pod

This is a warm woody, spicy and aromatic scent thanks to the cedar, pepper, and spices, so it is very "manly' yet it also has a touch of an energetic freshness thanks to the grapefruit and mandarin, which also means that it doesn't come across as being too heavy or overpowering. It also has a very good wear, lasting from early morning until bedtime, without the need to reapply.


So there you go, a selection of scents perfect as Father's Day gift, and there's something for every taste, light or heavy, woody, spicy or fresh, or even one you can use too!

PRODUCT REVIEW: CALVIN KLEIN CK2 EAU DE TOILETTE

Calvin Klein fragrances are amongst my absolute favourites. I have quite a few different ones, many of which I've repurchased several times. Unlike other brands, I don't think I've ever smelled a Calvin Klein scent that I didn't like and that didn't go straight onto the wish list. So whenever I hear of a new Calvin Klein fragrance launch, I always get very excited, and so I did when I heard news of the new CK2. 

Back in the 90s Calvin Klein launched two unisex fragrances, first ONE followed a little later by BE. I had both, and in particularly liked ONE.

With CK2, Calvin Klein is launching a new unisex, or as they call it, a "gender-free fragrance for a man or a woman without prejudices, to unite and create an experience that can be shared together in love, lust and friendship." As also correctly stated "Life is better when we are 2."

The fragrance is described as urban woody fresh , and contains the following notes; 

• Top: wasabi, mandarin, violet leaf absolute
• Middle: wet cobblestones, orris concrete, rose absolute
• Base: vetiver, incense, sandalwood

Generally I prefer light, citrusy and fresh scents, so this one is right up my ally as it beautiful uncomplicated fresh aqua scent with the citrus lingering . As it dries down, it does get slightly warmer and a bit more musky yet also floral at the same time.

 

At first sniff, I actually, due to the floral undertone, that the fragrance was suitable for men as well, but after my husband, I did (unfortunately) have to change my mind. On him it is like the musky and woody undertones seems far stronger, and you can hardly detect the rose and violet notes.

  

The scent itself has a medium longevity, and when applying it in the morning, I do feel that I will need to reapply again in the late afternoon. But that said, I have also been using it on some particularly hot summer days.

  

The CK2 fragrance comes in a very minimalistic cylinder glass bottle that can sit on the square cap to keep the bottle upside down. I really love this understated minimalistic simplicity which I feel makes it absolutely stunning. There are plenty 'over the top' bottles out there, so this one really stands out with its less is more approach.

  

I do have to be honest and admit that I prefer the specific female scents from Calvin Klein, however, I still really like using this new CK2 scent and will particularly enjoy using it as we head into autumn. I also know that my husband really likes the freshness of it too, so it appears that I have to hide it somewhere unless I want to share it with him!

INDUSTRY NEWS: CALVIN KLEIN LAUNCHES REVEAL FRAGRANCE FOR WOMEN

I have long been a huge fan of Calvin Klein perfumes, and think I own every single one that has ever been launched, and my husband is just as big a fan, also having quite a collection. One of my favourites is still Eternity, and I am up to my third or fourth bottle by now, and I even wore it on my wedding day!Anyway, being such a fan of the CK fragrances, I am always excited when I hear of new launches, so it is with pleasure than I can share that Calvin Klein is launching a new women’s perfume, REVEAL, which will launch in Australia in October 2014.

 

“REVEAL Calvin Klein is a classic Calvin Klein fragrance that is globally appealing, because it speaks to women who want to feel sexy, confident and provocative,”

The REVEAL Calvin Klein scent defines a new fragrance category – the solar oriental – which is characterised by intriguing duality, unexpected freshness and enveloping warmth. A highly sensorial raw salt signature captures traces of the erotic scent of skin.

And how stunning and ultramodern is the new bottle?

 

 

The face of the new REVEAL fragrance is British actor Charlie Hunnam, who stars in FX’s hit television series, Sons of Anarchy, and Dutch supermodel Doutzen Kroes, will be featured in the new worldwide advertising campaign.

Product Review: Calvin Klein DownTown Eau De Parfum

I have always been a huge fan of Calvin Klein perfumes.  I think I have every single one ever released, and several of them – including Eternity, Escape and Euphoria I have repurchased several times, something I rarely do with perfumes. I think even hubby has got all of the male fragrances from Calvin Klein as he is a huge fan too. In fact, when we got married, we both wore Eternity! So I was excited when I was asked to join the Down Town challenge, but more about that later in another post – here is my thoughts on the *Calvin Klein Downtown EDP;

What They Say:

What I Say:

Being one for simple, modern and classic designs, I love the look of the Downtown perfume bottle, as the clear bottle simply has a minimalistic classic look, allowing you to see the pale pink perfume. The bottle has a stunning silver cap with a bright pink glossy lining.

Downtown contains notes of Italian cedrat, bergamot and Tunisian neroli along nuances of fresh green pear and dewy watery plum. It also contains Gardenia petals and Texan cedarwood, Lao benzoin, and warm musk. However, in spite of the Texan cedarwood and musk notes, it is – luckily for me, not too heavy or musky, as that is really not my type of fragrance. Rather it is light, fresh and fruity – my preferred type of scents. You can smell the gardenia, which is one of my favourite flowers, along with the green pear giving it a lovely green freshness.

 

Top notes: Italian cedrat, bergamot, Tunisian neroli, green pear, watery plum

Middle Notes: Pink peppercorn, violet leaf, gardenia petals

Dry Notes: Texan cedarwood, incense, vetiver, velvet musks
 

As with all other Calvin Klein perfumes, it is a good quality, and It has a fairly longevity, although it does fade as the day goes on – and more so than other Calvin Klein fragrances that I find tend to be very strong, even after a full days wear. But in saying that, I can still detect it at the end of the day, and so can hubby – so it serves the purpose of being a gorgeous spring perfume, perfect for day wear or a lunch date. Being so light, it would also be perfect for a younger girl.

The face of the perfume is Rooney Mara, who has been seen in movies such as The Social Network and Side Effects, but it was the role Lisbeth Salander in the Hollywood version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo that rose her to international fame – and if you haven’t seen the movie, I can highly recommend that you watch it – although I do prefer the original Swedish version – Sorry Rooney! 

The black-and-white advertising campaign that tells the story of a young woman living in her own world, breaking away from the ‘expected.’ set in New York City, the short film portrays the multi-faceted life of a globally recognisable actress who always remains true to herself.

What I Like:

• That it is fresh, light and fruity
• The simple yet modern bottle

What I Don’t Like:

• In spite of being an Eau de Parfum, It doesn’t last as long as other Calvin Klein perfumes, it would be nice if it was slightly stronger and with a longer longevity.

Overall, this is a lovely perfume and I will enjoy wearing it as we head towards summer, and as it is so different to my other Calvin Klein purposes, it has already found its spot in my perfume wardrobe, perfect for the days where I want to wear a light and fresh fragrance.

Product Review: Violet Box – Launch box

I think everyone addicted to beauty products are in love with the monthly subscription boxes, and are subscribed to at least one. Well, the good news is that now another Australian subscription Beauty Box has just been launched – *The Violet Box.

I am not actually sure if the first Violet Box was to a particular theme, but the goodies came in a simple, yet elegant matte black box with the purple Violet Box logo on the top. And inside, the samples were wrapped in violet tissue paper.

So what was in the first Violet Box…
 

Avene Gentle Gel Cleanser – 50ml sample (RRP $23.95/200ml)

 

I really like Avene products, but have not tried any of their cleansers, so I am looking forward to trying this one. It is supposedly aimed at combination sensitive skin – and ok, I do have combination skin, but although it is not sensitive, using a very gentle product sure doesn’t hurt!

 

CK One Color Cosmetics, Gloss Eyecolor – Full size (RRP $25.00)

 

As soon as I saw the stunning black and white CK One box I was excited. Since Calvin Klein launched their new makeup range, have been wanting to try some of their products. The product is a Eyeshadow in a crayon form, giving a soft sheen and transparent look. Unfortunately I got the colour 500 Pop, which is a bright green – and as I am very conservative with my eye makeup, almost always wearing nudes/browns, I doubt that I will be using this one!

 

It also included a card offering a free 20 minute makeover at a Calvin Klein counter

 

Calvin Klein Sheer Beauty - Eau de Toilette 1.2ml (RRP $80/50ml, $120/100ml)

 

I love Calvin Klein perfumes.  I have every single one of them, except for this one!! And I have repurchased several of them numerous times. And I wore Eternity when I got married!! And Sheer Beauty is just gorgeous as well, fresh and fruity. I love it, and have already put a full sized on my wish list!

 

John Plunkett Glyco Peel – Full size – (RRP $28.95/15ml)

I love the idea of being able to do a glycolic peel at home, so I’ve been wanting to try this 25% glycolic acid peel. It promises to reduce fine lines, and surface discolourations, keeping skin looking clear, younger and refreshed. Unfortunately glycolic acid is off limits for me right now being pregnant, but after I’ve given birth, I hopeful that it will give my skin a much needed boost.

 

LashControl Clear Coat Control Mascara & Brow Fix – Full Size (RRP $25.00/8.87ml)

This promises to tame wayward brows without the wet look, and also works as a top coat over mascara to seal in the pigment. The mascara has a so-called ‘squeeze control’ which allows you to control how much product is on the brush. I am not quite sure I understand the need to use a top coat over my mascara, as I have sensitive eyes, so I always make sure that the mascaras I use are of such high quality that they do not drop pigments. As for Brow Fix, I do have a couple of hairs that have a mind of their own, so this will no doubt come in handy.

Argania Hair Oil Travel Cuties – 5ml (RRP $34.99/100ml)
 

I have really taken to using hair oils, as they not only help tame frizz and flyaways, they also help give moisture to dry hair. I have tried quite a few different ones by now, and I’m look forward to also trying hair oil from Argania, which is made from certified organic Moroccan Argan oil rich in vitamins and antioxidants. And besides the small bottle is just so cute, and perfect for travelling!

This sounds pretty cool for me, and I hope to be able to try this out after I've given birth..


Overall I am quite happy the contents and value of this box for $22.95, and I am impressed with the fact that there are six products in the box and of those three are full sized!! I have been very keen on trying the John Plunkett Glyco Peel, which on its own has a value of $28.95, so really everything else in the box is just a bonus!!

Again, I was a little disappointed with the colour of the Calvin Klein Eyeshadow, as I was very keen on trying that – but then I also need to remember that the box was sent to me for consideration, and the Violet Box did not have any of my personal preferences of details, so if subscribers get makeup products in the boxes in colours according to their preferences, I really have nothing to criticise.

If the Violet Box can maintain this quality of products in their monthly boxes, and furthermore manages to customise the products you are sent, then it is sure to be a success, and I for one, am very tempted to subscribe...
