PRODUCT REVIEW: PETER THOMAS ROTH GLYCOLIC CLEANSER, TONER AND MOISTURISER FROM SEPHORA - FOR A MORE RADIANT, BRIGHTER AND CLEARER SKIN

My skin has all days played up, and even today, where I should be focussing on anti-ageing, and fighting the lines, wrinkles and pigmentation, my breakouts are still another key skincare concern. Often finding skincare products that will target both anti-ageing and my breakouts can be difficult, but I recent years, I’ve discovered that using retinol as well as glycolic products seem to make a difference. I’ve put some products from Peter Thomas Roth’s Glycolic Solutions range to the test..

The Peter Thomas Roth’s Glycolic Solutions range is designed for combination, oily and problem skin, to help visibly improve the look of fine lines, wrinkles, radiance, uneven skin tone, pores and rough texture, and I’ve put the following products to the test;

  • Peter Thomas Roth 3% Glycolic Solutions Cleanser*
  • Peter Thomas Roth 8% Glycolic Solutions Toner*
  • Peter Thomas Roth 10% Glycolic Solutions Moisturizer*

The Peter Thomas Roth 3% Glycolic Solutions Cleanser is an oil free, anti-ageing and exfoliating cleansing gel helps to effectively remove impurities, makeup and excess oil. It has a quiet low percentage of glycolic acid, with just 3%, which makes it very gentle, and personally, I would have loved to see it a little stronger, but then again, I am also using it to help fight breakouts too. The glycolic acid helps chemically exfoliate the skin, to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and leave the skin feeling softer, smoother any more radiant.

It promises to help reduce the appearance of pores, smoothness, brightness and clarity while helping reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin tone.

While it does remove makeup effectively, I have preferred to use it as my second cleanse, for a deeper more intense cleanse, and have found it quite effective at that. I have been using the cleanser both morning and evening. On its own in the morning, and as a second cleanse at night, sometimes leaving it on my skin for the few minutes while I brush my teeth as a kind of quick treatment, before rinsing it off. And it really does leave my skin feeling so super soft, smooth and glowing, and without being irritated or dried out.

As a second step, I’ve been using the Peter Thomas Roth 8% Glycolic Solutions Toner. Lately I admit to being hooked on the Pixi Glow tonic, which has a 5% glycolic contents, so I was particularly keen on trying this one with its slightly higher concentration of 8%.

Along with the 8% glycolic acid, the The Peter Thomas Roth Toner chemically exfoliates the skin’s surface to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pores and uneven skin tone while helping to brighten, clarify and smooth out the look of skin. It also contains Witch Hazel to help remove excess oil, dirt and impurities, and Allantoin, Chamomile and Aloe Vera to soothe and calm the look of skin and Sodium PCA leaves skin lightly hydrated.

It is to be used after cleansing the skin, but applying with a cotton ball or simply padded into the face, which I actually prefer - I always double cleanse, so I don’t find the need to remove any makeup residue with the toner, but in stead, I simply as I find it more economical to use the the toner this way as I don’t waste as much toner being absorbed into the cotton ball, plus I also as I find that I that way can apply a little more to my skin, making it even more effective. It is then to be left on the skin without being rinsed off.

I absolutely love this toner. I feel it makes my skin even softer and smoother (then when using the cleanser on its own), it is clearer and brighter, and it has such a gorgeous healthy glow to it too. It can sting a little on the skin, especially if you have breakouts, but nothing that I find is irrigating my skin.

Finally, I’ve also been using the Peter Thomas Roth 10% Glycolic Solutions Moisturizer, which contains a time-released form of Glycolic Acid in a moisturising formula. The 10% glycolic acid helps chemically exfoliate the skin to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, brightness, clarity, uneven skin tone, pores and smoothness.

The moisturiser has a light gel consistency, and it is easy to spread across the face, absorbing quickly and without any greasy residue, and having combination skin prone to shine, I like how it leaves my skin with a matte finish. It also works well under my makeup. It can be used both morning and evening, but I’ve been using it during the day only, as I still like using my retinol products during the night.

And after using it for a few weeks, I have to say that I am hooked on this moisturiser. I feel that it has helped reduce my breakouts, including a few on my chin and cheeks I’ve been battling for a long time. I also feel that as well as my skin in general appears clearer and brighter, with some marks from past acne and other scars appearing to be reduced in size, my skin also seems less greasy, but without being dried out. Overall, an amazing moisturiser.

Note that the use of glycolic acid can make the skin more sensitive to the sun, so its recommended to always use an SPF when outdoors, and some would see it as a negative that the moisturiser does not contain SPF, but personally I don’t mind - I often suspect products with SPF causing my skin to become congested and breakout, so I actually prefer to use a separate SPF on top when I need it.

I have of course been using these three Peter Thomas Roth Glycolic products together, so it is difficult to distinguish the effects of each product individually, but I believe they’ve been working in synergy, for an overall better result, and overall I am very impressed. I simply feel that my skin is breaking out less, is less greasy, and it is more even and looking fresher and more glowing too. The products look fantastic in their bright blue bottles and feel lovely to use too. I’ll most definitely be repurchasing these again, and made me want to try more from the large product range, and in particular the Retinol and Vitamin C ranges, along with the Mineral CC Cream
