XMAS GIFT IDEAS - EDUCATIONAL AND TECH GIFT FOR THE KIDS FROM VTECH AND LEAPFROG

The other day I suggested some tech Xmas gift ideas suitable for both him and her - but what about the kids. Today I'll share with you some incredible tech suggestions for kids that are super educational at the same time..

Lets start with the Vtech Kidizoom Duo Camera. My two little boys are like any other boys, loving copying what we do - including taking photos - but one smashed phone later, and I have to admit that I am not too fond of handing over my phone to our clumsy little toddlers. The Vtech Kidizoom Duo Camera is a high-tech for a camera aimed at kids aged from 3-9 years, and it loaded with so many features, that you'll be surprised that it is actually a 'toy' It features among others;

  • 4x digital zoom
  • Front camera 2.0 mega pixels
  • Rear facing camera VGA for easy selfies
  • Intelligent auto-portrait mode
  • Built-in auto-flash
  • 2.2″ colour screen
  • Colour Filter effects
  • Triple photo burst mode
  • 5 motion control games
  • Dual view finders
  • Voice recording feature, with different voice changing effects
  • Editing features with over 70 fun effects such as stamps and stars
  • Animation maker
  • Internal memory to store around 200 photos (and supports microSD card for memory expansion, card not included)
  • Ability to connect to the VTech Learning Lodge for extra downloads of photo effects, apps and games

In addition, you can also hook it up to the Vtech Learning Lodge which allows you to download even more games, apps, and heaps of more, and as a parent, I love that I can track the progress of your child's learning.

It is simply the coolest toy, hours and hours of fun for the little ones, and it is so easy for them use too - it will keep them entertained when you're about and about as they'll be busy taking photos and videos of everything they see, and later, they can sit down and have just as much fun editing all their photos.

This camera is not the cheapest toy around, at $99.95, but as you can see above, it is a digital camera loaded with features making it basically like an 'adult camera', with the bonus that it is easy for little hands to hold, plus it comes in a child proof case that is solid and sturdy and can actually handle the occasional drop to the floor.

It is seriously so loaded with features that I feel we keep coming across new ones - and I feel not a moment goes by where our big 4 year old doesn’t say, look mummy, as he finds new things it can do. This is seriously the coolest interactive toy, and I love that it my boys are actively learning through their play.

Another incredible suggestion is the Leap Frog LeapPad Ultimate. I am sure it is not just our little boys, but they have such a fascination with our phones, computers and ipads, but not only are they not only not always safe for them in terms of the contents they can find on them, they are also not exactly geared towards little children and will mostly easily break if dropped by little clumpsy hands. But the LeapPad from LeapFrog has though about all of this thanks with the LeapPad Ultimate which is both kid-tough with a shatter-safe screen and re-engineered frame with an energy absorbing wrap around bumper, as well as kid-safe with a kid-protected browser featuring only kid-appropriate contents and web pages viewed and approved by LeapFrog learning experts.

The pad has pre-loaded contents focussing on teaching the child core skills in math, reading and science, as well as music, puzzles, logic and creativity, to prepare kids for preschool and beyond, but does take a few minutes for an adult to set up and personalise for the child, but after that, it is full steam ahead and the child can start playing and more importantly learn from all the apps. It also has a password protection that allows parents to add multiple kids to one tablet as well as manage their play experience and while the LeapPad has wifi, the kids can also play offline

The LeapPad has a fast, powerful quad-core processor for making it super fast. It is pre-loaded with so much cool kids contents and apps, and of course include the 'standard' such as a calculator, a camera, a calendar, a clock, and a notepad. Other apps feature pets that kids can create, a pet chat, games, flashcards, music, and pre-selected websites for kids to discover, and also an app store where more can be purchased along the way.

In fact it can access up to 1000+ learning games, videos, eBooks and more, featuring all the kids favourite characters including Paw Patrol, Trolls, Sesame Street, PJ Mask and many many more - all of which has been designed and approved by LeapFrog educators (not these are sold separately), so you can keep the child challenged.

The LeapPad features among others;

  • Powerful Processor with a quad-core processor
  • Access to more than 1,000 learning games, videos, eBooks, and more in the LeapFrog Learning Library
  • Just for Me™ learning technology personalizes select games to adjust to learning levels.
  • Preloaded content teaching core skills in mathematics, reading, and science as well as music, puzzles, logic, and creativity.
  • Kid-tough design with an energy-absorbing bumper and shatter-safe screen
  • Kid-safe LeapSearch™ web browser allows access to approved, kid-appropriate content
  • Cartridge slot and a library packed with educational curriculum for offline play
  • Parental controls with password protection, the ability to set play time limits and add multiple profiles
  • Rechargeable battery lasts up to 5 hours
  • 2 MP front and back cameras
  • 2-year warranty

And the kids can have Photo Fun - yes it has a camera too so they can take photos and videos, and have fun editing them afterwards. The aim with this LeapPad tablet is help the child build better core skills in mathematics, reading, science, music, problem solving, logic, and creativity through going through the tutorials and learning all the skills independently. And as a parent, I really love the pad is intelligent with its Just-for-Me learning technology that is built into many of the learning games, which assesses kids as they play and adapts the curriculum to a more or less challenging level to keep them engaged and motivated. It even comes with a little stylus, and I love that its attached with a short string so it doesn't get lost, and that it has a padded point so it doesn't scratch the screen.

This seriously is the ultimate tech Xmas present for kids aged between 3-9 years, and as it covers such a large age group, it also means that it is not one of those 'fad' toys, but that it will continue to grow the child for years to come.
