PRODUCT REVIEW: MAYBELLINE NEW YORK SUPERSTAY 14HR MEGAWATT LIPSTICK

Today I'd like to share with you the Maybelline SuperStay 14hr Megawatt Lipstick;

What They Say:

Amp up colour this summer with Maybelline NY’s new high voltage bright lip colour. In supercharged shades, SuperStay 14hr Megawatt Lipstick delivers statement bold lips that lasts for 14 hours.

RRP: $18.95 – Available from Priceline, supermarkets, pharmacies and variety stores from October 2014

What I Say:
Maybelline promises a formula that provides comfortable coverage without drying, dragging or fading. The range is available in 5 shades;

L-R; Burst of Coral, Coral Beams, Neon Pink,
Flash of Fuchsia, Red Rays

  • Neon Pink - 120
  • Coral Beams - 125
  • Flash of Fuchsia - 135
  • Burst of Coral - 455
  • Red Rays - 575

All of the colours are lovely and bright, yet very wearable, so I cannot even say which colour is my favourite of the five. However, unfortunately only five shades have been launched in Australia, as per usual, although there are 14 colours available that have been launched in Europe. The remaining colours do include some slightly less bright colours, including mauve and dusty pinks so it would be great to see those shades here too as some stage as that way the range may appeal to a wider audience.

Red Rays

The lipsticks come in a compact bullet style compact packaging, which is smaller than the average lipstick. It is bright and also shows the shade of the lipstick, which I really like as it makes it so much easier to find your selected shade amongst countless other lipsticks in the makeup drawer.

The lipstick has a bit of a dry consistency, yet it does apply easily. It is also very pigmented so just one swipe is more than sufficient for a full coverage. It dries to a more or less matte finish. Unfortunately it is not as creamy as I had hoped for, but guess that is probably due to the matte finish. Consequently it is also a little drying on the lips, so it may not be the best choice of lipstick for those with dry lips.

Maybelline claims, though the name, that the lipstick stays put for 14 hours, which is a huge claim. So does it deliver? Well it is certainly long-lasting, although I personally cannot get it to last that long. It last well through breakfast, drinks of water, tea and coffee, but budges after my lunch, although it does leave a touch of a stain behind.

It is also worth a mention that the lipsticks have the most divine fruity scent and taste pretty good too.

Overall, these lipsticks are quite nice, and certainly have a longer wear than most. So if you need a pop of matte colour, then they will be right up your alley..

  1. The colours are quite nice, I really like the corals, though I wish they were a bit more varied! The formula sounds pretty good too :)
