Product Review: Clarins Beauty Flash Balm – And giveaway

Some products are raved about by every blogger, beauty editor and mentioned again and again in magazines, as being must-have items. And for a beauty blogger, these so-called cult products are high on my list of must-try products. Here are my thoughts one of those products, the *Clarins Beauty Flash Balm – and make sure to read on, as one lucky reader will also get a chance to WIN this cult product.

What They Say:

"The ultimate pick-me-up for tired, stressed skin — Clarins’ brightening balm eliminates signs of fatigue in a flash! Instantly moisturizes and tightens facial contours so skin looks rested and relaxed. Olive and Witch Hazel extracts help smooth the skin’s surface — diffusing the look of lines and wrinkles. Soothing Bisabolol helps restore skin’s youthful glow. Also acts as a make-up base or primer for perfect make-up application and hours of luminous wear."

RRP: $60 (50ml) – Available from Clarins counters, select salons and pharmacies nationally

What I Say:
The Beauty Flash Balm contains Algae Extract to revitalise, Witch Hazel and Olive Tree Extracts to tighten and promote radiance, and Bisabolol to soothe and soften the skin, as well as Rice Starch to help purify the epidermis.

It promises to promote immediate and long-lasting radiance, tighten, firm and help minimise fine lines and wrinkles, for a smooth and soft skin.

The Beauty Flash Balm is to be used on the face, neck and décolleté using gentle, sweeping movements (do not rub in). If your skin is very dry, you can apply your regular moisturiser prior to Beauty Flash Balm. Hereafter you can apply your makeup.

Finally, the Beauty Flash Balm can also be used as a facial mask in this way two or three times a week.

The balm was launched in Australia in 1980, and yet is still so popular, that is what I call a true cult product, so I was so excited to finally be trying this product myself.

The Beauty Flash Balm has a lovey subtle floral fragrance and it is a peach colour, and has a gel consistency, so it spreads easily on top of my usual serum. It is also very concentrated so I only use about a pea size for my full face, so imagine how long the 50ml tube will last!

The cream absorbs instantly into the skin, making it feel so moisturised, soft and smooth, and instantly giving making my skin look less tired and dull by giving it a nice healthy glow – so it really does live up to its name, Beauty Flash Balm!

Used under makeup, this balm acts as a primer, making my foundation so much easier to apply, making it look so much nicer, and even on my combination skin, it makes my makeup stay put and looking matte for longer – in fact, at the end of the day, I am surprised at how nice my makeup is still looking, which is a refreshing change – and surprising as I didn’t expect the Beauty Flash Balm to perform that well as a primer as it doesn’t have the usual powdery texture that most primers do. But again, I was pleasantly surprised!

I also tried to use the Beauty Flash Balm as a mask, leaving it on my face for about 15minutes before rinsing it off, and afterwards my skin was feeling so soft and smooth, and with an amazing lit-from within glow.

The Beauty Flash Balm comes in the iconic Clarins white tube with the red writing, and a screw lid, that makes it easy to use without any wastage.

What I Like:
  • That it includes ingredients that care for my skin, while giving it an amazing glow and radiance
  • It makes my makeup easier to apply, and makes it stay putt for longer
  • It has a lovely floral scent
  • That it is a moisturiser and primer and a mask in one, so a multi-tasking product

What I Don’t Like:
  • It is a little pricey, but as only a little is needed the tube will last a long time
  • Used as a mask, you will go through the tube more quickly, so I do find it a little too expensive to use for that, and will be saving mine to use as a moisturiser and 'primer'

Sometimes when products are so raved about, you have so high expectations that when you finally get to try it you are so disappointed. But overall, this really is an amazing product, and it is no wonder it is so talked about. I love what it does to my skin, and how nice it makes my makeup look, and on the days I go barefaced it gives my skin such a nice glow. It really does live up to its claims, so no wonder that it is still going strong after 30 years on the market! I will definitely be purchasing this again!
