Product Review: Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Lotion & Toner

I have used Nivea products since I was a little girl, and the thick cream in the blue tin was available. In those days, things like hair treatments and leave-in conditioners were not as readily available as they are today, so I used to put the thick Nivea cream in my hair as a treatment, and believe me, it worked! Since then, I have been very fond of Nivea products, always delivering good quality products at a reasonable price. Here are my thoughts on the newly launched *Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Lotion & Toner;

What They Say:
The Nivea Pure & Natural Cleansing Lotion and Cleansing Toner contains "95% ingredients of natural origin harnesses the nourishing properties of Organic Aloe Vera and is suitable for all skin types".

RRP: $9.97 each (200ml) – Available from Priceline, Pharmacies and Supermarkets

What I Say:
I have combination skin prone to breakouts, so thoroughly cleaning my skin, and removing absolutely all makeup is a must, to ensure that my skin doesn’t break out even more.

The new Pure & Natural range from Nivea contains 95% natural ingredients as well as the products do not contain parabens, silicones, colourants or mineral oils. Being pregnant, that is just what I like to hear, trying hard to be a little healthier as well as reduce the amount of chemical nasties in my skincare products.

The Nivea Pure and Natural Cleansing Lotion comes in a simple white bottle with a flip lid, which makes it easy to get just the amount of cleanser you need.

I have to be honest and admit that I normally prefer a foaming cleanser, for the one reason that I like splashing water in my face. The Nivea Pure & Natural Cleanser on the other hand is a cream cleanser. To cleanse my face and remove makeup, I press out a small amount into my hand, and massage it over my face, before wiping it off with a cotton ball. As I always double cleanse my skin to make sure that every bit of makeup has been removed, I cleanse again, and this time rinse my face with lukewarm water afterwards. I do not believe that is necessary and that wiping with a cotton ball is sufficient, but again I simply like the feeling of water in my face.

The cleanser feels so gentle on my skin, and doesn’t dry out my skin or make it feel tight. Rather it leaves is feeling soft and smooth. And it easily removes my makeup, although it does seem to leave behind a little bit of residue.

I have quite sensitive eyes, that easily sting and water, but the cleanser doesn’t sting or irritate my eyes, but in still it is not very efficient at removing long-lasting eye makeup. In saying that, while the instructions on the cleanser does not say to avoid the eye area, it also does not say that it is suitable for removing eye makeup, which is perfectly fine as I can use an eye makeup remover specifically suited for waterproof eye makeup.

The cleanser and the toner have the same lovely fresh fragrance, which is very different to the ‘standard’ Nivea scent. But I really like this new fresh scent. In saying that, considering it is 95% natural, it would have been nice if this range had also been fragrance free to also suit those with sensitive skin types.

Like the cleanser, the Pure & Natural Cleansing Toner, the in the same style bottle with a flip lid which is simple and easy to use, and easy to dispense just the amount of toner needed onto a cotton ball.

After cleansing my face with the Pure & Natural Cleansing Lotion, I follow with the Cleansing Toner. Although the toner contains alcohol, it does not strip my skin for moisture, but instead removes any residue from the cleanser and any remaining makeup, and leaves my skin feeling toned, refreshed and moisturised, no doubt due to it also containing Organic Aloe Vera and Organic Argan Oil.

In spite of being prone to breakouts, especially when trying new products, I have not experienced any increase in breakouts after now having used these products for a couple of weeks.

So all in all I have really enjoyed using these products, and in spite of preferring a foaming cleanser, I have even enjoyed using the cream cleanser, it’s been a nice change. And being 95% natural, and without chemical nasties and at under $10 each, these products are absolute bargain finds.

  4. This is interesting, dear, that you here present the German brand Nivea! I believe each household here has much of the products from Nivea in use. Unfortunately Nivea stopped producing a few years ago the makeup line, from which I purchased my fav lipstick :(

    Thanks for sharing this interesting facts about your test!
